  • Afghans Face Growing Violence In India, Minister’s Son Beaten

Cuttack (India) – at appears as if the Indians have started adopting the policy of Australians who continue to thrash Indians in Australia to force the immigrant Indians quit Australia as the violence against the Afghanis in India is growing fast across the country. In a latest incident, at least 59 Afghan students of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack have left for New Delhi as they feel that they were unsafe as security provided to them by local police was not satisfactory.

The Afghan students decided to leave the university following a group clash inside the campus on January 13. Two Afghan students suffered serious injuries while five others were left with minor injuries during the clash.

Although the commissionerate of police had assured two Afghan embassy officials who had come to Cuttack on January 14 that adequate security would be provided, the Afghan students were not satisfied with police arrangement.

At least 78 foreign students, 69 of them from Afghanistan, were studying in Cuttack under culture exchange programme of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). University authorities, however, said that the students had gone to New Delhi for a meeting with embassy officials and ICCR authority.

“We will take all measures to bring back the Afghan students who joined the university in 2009 as they have only six months left to complete their respective courses”, said its Registrar, Samarpriya Mishra.

Two officials of Afghanistan’s embassy in New Delhi arrived here on Friday last and held discussions with the students and authorities on security. The issue has assumed importance as one of the Afghani students assaulted in latest incident is the son of Minister of Water Resources in Kabul.

The Central Government is also sending a two-member team __ a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs and a high-level official of the ICCR __ to probe the incident. Meanwhile, police have shifted around 68 foreign students from their private mess and hostels to safer accommodations.

Two girl students have been put up in the Women’s hostel on the campus and the rest in safe places as there was threat to them. A report has been submitted by the university to the police. The Commissionerate police are registering cases and action would be taken, Commissioner B K Sharma said. The two-member Embassy team met university authorities and DCP, Cuttack A N Sinha and discussed issues related to safety and security of the students, who are pursuing their studies here.

They also visited the Afghani students who were beaten up by their local counterparts inside the campus on Thursday and enquired about the incident. University Registrar Smarapriya Mishra said the Embassy officials were apprised of the incident. All steps were being taken to prevent any such incident in future, she added. The Commissionerate police have also been requested to provide security on the campus as the semester exams are underway and the foreign students are appearing for the tests, she said. DCP Sinha assured the officials of providing all assistance to the students. Security has been provided at places where the foreign students are residing. The embassy officials expressed satisfaction on the steps taken by the police.

The issue continued to generate heat as media persons, who were also beaten up by the students, staged a sit-in at Malgodown police station demanding arrest of the culprits. Five scribes and photojournalists had been assaulted by the agitating students and had their cameras snatched while covering the rage on the campus. They had filed five FIRs at Malgodown police station. The sit-in was called off after DCP Sinha assured them that all those involved in the incident would be arrested. The incident of violence against Afghan students and businesspersons in India are become a routine feature. Last month four Afghan students were brutally thrashed in Banglore while the business outlet of software businessman from Afghanistan burnt in Chennai and he was rushed to hospital with very serious burn injuries.

In other incidents Afghan drivers and other workers were reported tortured in Haryana, Mumbai and a few other places.

Son of Afghan Minster. Hmm. If I was there I would have probably joined in on beating up the son of that criminal.

Indians hardly get along with themselves, how do you expect them to be all lovey-dovey to Afghans? For the most part, from what I have heard, Indians have been pretty hospitable to Afghans. But like Pakistanis, they also have strategic interests in Afghanistan. Pashtuns/Afghans face violence everyday in Karachi, I don't see that in the media. In fact, just yesterday a bunch of Pashtuns were attacked by unknown gunmen in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

The Afghans were beaten because they were Muslims. If they were hindus this would not have happened. Despite what you hear about india being a secular nation, religious violence is a fact of life in india.

Obviously that is true. Extremists exist in every nation. Yup you heard me, every nation. Pakistan and Afghanistan are no different, let's not act as if we are hospitable either. I do agree that it's a shameful chapter in Indian history. May God guide them on the right path.

You know how many Muslims are beaten and killed in Napakistan on daily bases by the so-called Muslim government?

Why won't you make a thread about the crimes of Napak government and army?

If you are so concerned, why won't you make a thread about all the Afghans who are mistreated in Pakistan?

How are Afghans mistreated in Pakistan? We gave you refuge after the U.S. let invasion in Afghanistan and the Soviet invasion. We let you roam freely in the country. Iran also gave you refuge but they kept you concentrated in one area and refused for you to travel to anyother parts.

you say NaPakistan what does the na mean?

                You gave us refuge? LOL.

Your national anthem is in Farsi. You should know what 'na' stands for.

They are not there to kill innocent Pashtuns, they are there to stop the spread of the taliban ideology. The people of Waziristan are unable to so we have to come in and help our compatriots. As with any military conflict there will be collateral damage, but some use this as a way to distort the activities of Pakistan Army to further their objectives.

I wish that some of that collateral damage is caused in your home and your environment.

it is already being done, there are almost daily bombings in all major pakistani cities. Like i said before, this war is going nowhere. America has to leave the region, then i am sure we can work out things better.

America will leave alright. But we need to get rid of the cancer in the region, the infidel state of Pakistan before we can have peace and stability in the region.
