  • Karachi ethnic violence kills 12

At least 12 people have been killed in ethnic violence in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, police say.
The killings started with an attack on Thursday on a local leader of ANP party. Police said most of the killings had been drive-by shootings.
Hundreds of people have been killed in ethnic and sectarian conflict in Karachi since 2008.
More than 700 people died in Karachi last year in 'target killings'
Many attribute the killings to fighting between two ethnic parties for political space in the city.
An ANP spokesman told the BBC that party leader Bashir Jan was slightly injured in the attack. His bodyguard was seriously wounded.
The shooting raised tensions across the city of 17 million people, leading to further drive-by shootings, which continued overnight.
The dead included a Geo TV reporter, Wali Khan Babar, who was shot five times at point blank range, the channel reported.
It said Mr Babar, 28, was driving home in his car on Thursday night when another car drove alongside his vehicle. One of the occupants of that car fired at him, killing him instantly.
Mr Babar was an ethnic Pashtun from the Zhobe district of Balochistan province.
The ANP, which is supported by the Pashtun population of Karachi, says its workers and sympathisers are being targeted by the city's dominant party MQM [Muttahida Qaumi Movement] to prevent it from extending its political clout.
The MQM denies this, and says that Taliban militants among the Pashtun population are targeting MQM activists in a bid to extend their control of the city.
There have also been hundreds of killings of a sectarian nature in Karachi.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, an independent rights group, said in a report in December that at least 711 people had died in "targeted killings" in Karachi between January and November of 2010.

the ttp kills more pashtuns than other groups in pakistan do. looks like the karachi toll is up to 30 deaths.

wtf kinda country is this where this happens in the capital and is commonplace.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

it amazes me how pakistanis take so much pride in their military and missiles, yet there are bombs going off everyday killing people, american drones killing people, and violence like this going on in their capital. false pride if i have ever seen it.

Why it amazes you? We Pakhtuns as a nation are still proud of the abilities we once had, some great people we once had. Infact if we are proud of that we are living in dreams because today I see Pakhtuns are famous for what? Terrorism? Highway Robberies? Illetracy? What else? Than why should not Pakistan be proud of what it has today? Think?

Drones is a complete incompetency of this govt. They had done deals with this evil known as USA and hence are silent on the issue. You must know that each and every common Pakistani hate them for this reason, there is nobody who is actually happy with the drones? Violence like this is not resolved by the Bombs and Missiles infact by Political Will and patience which we unfortunately lack at the moment. In the Capital? Are you sure Karachi is the capital of Pakistan? :p False pride about what?

do you have hard evidence of that?

and how about the drone strikes do they not kill?

Yes, even with their country in flames these idiots are so full of hubris. As a Bengali I feel it because they think that they are so great and that we are so low that you can feel their arrogance.

I attribute it to their pre-Islamic Hindu culture. The Indo-Gangetic region (Hindustan) was the birthplace of Brahmanic Hinduism which is the cruellest and most inhumane form of racism existent today.

Bengalis, part of the Bengal delta were never part of this Hindustan and were always looked down upon by the people of the Indo-Gangetic region (Punjabis and Mohajirs basically). Afghans/Pashtuns however are civilizationally different and are Aryans and were not infected with the Brahmanic Hinduism of the Punjabis/Hindustanis.

I would say more, but this thread is not the place.
