  • Trust is the hardest thing to build

At a small mud-walled compound in the depths of southern Afghanistan an angry Afghan sergeant major faces off with a young Australian officer as a farmer looks on.

At the heart of the dispute is a crude shotgun that has just been found in the farmer's home, close to a tiny patrol base manned by Australian soldiers and their Afghan National Army (ANA) counterparts.

The sergeant major, an ethnic Tajik from a faraway northern province, wants to confiscate the shotgun and take it back to the base. He has no love for the Pashtun inhabitants of the village and believes the farmer is a Taliban sympathiser.....

that half arab is uncalled for
and for the story,in afghanistan especially these areas people have weapons to protect themselves.
and the northern alliance hould never be trusted and it has nothing to do with being tajik etc.
its just the affiliation to this criminal gang.

and most of these so called commanders dont speak pashto so they have another translator with them which is a shmae by itself.

Mr. Sold Out Farangi Wannabe with an Inferiority Complex

Even my mother's Arab side is closer to being Pashtoon, in so much as values than you are. Your last comment shows that you feel threatened by intellectual challenges.

Please elaborate for us "what other side of the situation" are you trying to highlight here?

Hi Edge brother (Akhi), it was just a joke...Don't take things on the Internet serious...Moreover, how about some ME food to serve us with?

Actually, I wanted to highlight how Pashtuns are caught on both sides (NATO-US + NA on one side AND Al-Qaueda+Taleban+Punjab on the other).

Then why are you highlighting the Tajik Sargeant?

It seems to me you want to stir animosity between Pashtoons and Tajiks. Some of my aunts and uncles are Tajik and I see no reason why I should view them with enmity on account of this one jerk.

Your having some Tajak relatives cannot exclude the possibility and the actual existance of an intense political and cultural rivalary/hostility between Pashtuns and Tajaks in Afghanistan. This doesn't mean every Pashtun out there is an enemy of of every Tajak. The converse is also not true. It isn't a question of superiority-inferiority either.

But this is how do the dynamics of intra-ethnic relations, competition, and struggle play out.

And now I know that you have a three-dimensional identity and ethnicity (Arab, Tajak, Pashtun)...The resulting contra linear and contradictory pulls and pushes might be tearing you apart...By the way, where you find yourself anchored most?

not really. i think people are a lot more careless with the way they carry themselves emotionally. and to some extent i find it does better for people than walking on eggshells all their lives. it's better to have a few people break your trust so you can build up an awareness inside you for the long run. it's happens..eventually it will. heck, it's bound to happen and the more you are able to handle it the better for everyone.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

So basically I am right, instead of trying to build bridges with our Brother Tajiks; you want Pashtoons to get upset and start having the same attitude about Tajiks that you think Tajiks have about Pashtoons.

I would rather have Three Dimensional identity than a one-dimensional personality. However I am not Tajik by blood (as far as I know). I do however embrace Tajiks as I would anyone else so long as we stand for one cause, Justice and Truth. That's where I am anchored.

Just as the traditional Pashtoon view which you seemed to have rejected, I am whatever my father is and my father is Pashtoon. But that's as far as I take the issue of ethnic identity.
