A devotee of any deity, concept, or ideology that is ridiculed will feel hurt if their convictions are true and sincere. I can't imagine anyone not feeling hurt or wronged, especially when their beliefs are ridiculed out of prejudice, bigotry and arrogance. As for criticism, that's another story.

For example, some atheists appreciation for their beliefs is so strong and sincere that they go out of their way to humiliate, and ridicule theists. It is their understanding that such psychological collateral is necessitated by their atheistic beliefs which they hold absolutely to be true (convictions). Thus, when their godless beliefs are ridiculed, they feel as if they are personally ridiculed. In many atheists you can notice their antagonistic attitude far more quickly than most theists. Why would that be if they personally didn't feel threatened, hurt, or ridicule?

Beliefs are beliefs, whether godly or godless. When challenged, everyone is equally hurt, and in many cases, personally.

I'm sure when I joined, I hurt, some, very personally, even though all I did was challenged and ridiculed their beliefs.

What God desires, no one knows. People however act like they do, and they do so most often because of their arrogance. People limit God to their own human perspectives and understanding: Is God love? Why there is evil? Should there be evil? Why there is hurt? Why is there death? Why is there hell? Why is there heaven? etc. it is mostly the desire and thinking of the human to whom God is usually confined. Where God shouldn't have any desires if it is content, full, complete, without a need or want. Wants, desires, need, love, hurt, pain, anguish, suffering, death etc. etc. etc. are all our limitations. And we childishly super impose them on the Creator of everything. Not realizing that if a Creator exists, the Creator will be free from it all. The Creators understanding of all of this is much different then ours. The way we view all of these will be through our human reasoning and logic...which in fact is extraordinarily limited (nonexistent in comparison to the Creator of everything).

Expecting a human to cry a river over pesticide spraying of an ant colony would be considered irrational by the most logical man. For the ants just went through hell, while for the human its business as usual. This doesn't mean that the human is without compassion, love or empathy. In the end, it all boils down to perspective and limitations.
    I am an Atheist (heads-up).

I find the new movement of Hitchens-Dawkins-Harris is based on strawmen. Namely, they attack the God, whom I have described as Ego. This business of the Ego is good money, think politics.

There is another deeper question which they avoid. That question requires patience, humility and love. Namely, what am I? (This consciousness).

I practice Buddhism (I meditate). I really like Allan Watts for example.

Now, the other day my friend said, what I have understood from Buddhism is that "The Buddha is the ****stick". I didn't get mad. I had a hearty laugh. Then I thought about it that day, and realized what he meant. That the Buddha's path is something to be used to cleanse yourself, but then you leave it, or else you are holding a **** stick.

Its funny how atheists think they are so smart, and go out of their way (like really out of their way) with all these silly antics (Does this chair exist? Do you exist? Dos time exist? Does God exist? How come we can't see God??)

LOL. give it a break!!! Unless you all have not noticed, no one here cares that your atheist!!!

Its not a pressing issue whether someone is atheist or not!!!!

ANd most of you atheists use wikipedia as your source of information (hint: wikipedia does not serve as a great reference on Alzheimers disease -plaques and tangles- wow direct from wiki- most of the info is not even accurate- go to the library next time if you need to prove how 'smart' you are lol)

Actually I don't think about you or your belief system as much as you think I do.Sorry for the misunderstanding. Hatred is a very harsh and negative term; I am yet to come across a person whom I could hate in my life. I would read your posts once again but I highly doubt that it would have any impact. The reason is your warning to LZ. I believe that was uncalled-for rudeness. There is a more civilized way of refuting someone's discourse and we normally call it discussion-not something I and you are doing right now!!!So consider this as my last reply.

gulalai, sorry to break the news to you, no one cares that you don't think of Islam, really. Wake up. Its not a pressing issue whether you believe in Allah(swt), or you believe in fire wind and air (or whatever lol)

          Get over yourself!!!!

            I'm chuckling over the above.
gulalai must be such a character !
But from whence does all the scorn for God -- or I would call it: anti-God rebellion - derive> I am wondering what brought her to this outlook? That part might be interesting to hear.

Most of the other women here seem to have imbibed all their ideas from Western or specifically American society and school system. I wish they would be really THEIR TRUE SELVES, not these trendy types, who never fail to pronounce on all subjects in Typical-Western-Women-Speak.

Their ideas always resemble those of an average American woman with a very liberal education.

I don't mean to introduce more contention, as I dislike that.

I am casually pointing this out seeking to pinpoint more specifically this mentality.

Is this a phase that these women [and men too, for it's the same social milieu] are going through at this age, seeking to blend in with their peers? Or will these attitudes remain for life?

            To think about.

I personally see the strong statement of the Sheikh Imran Hosein posted by Maiwand as the way to look at why not to join this wrong mainstream framework.
I have noticed the same general theme that he outlines. It's obvious !

Why do you women resist this so much? I'm just curious, not confrontational at all.

I like to "Quran" things instead of wiki-ing them.

Like the important question 'should I pee standing or sitting', its a toss up as far as I am concerned, wiki is useless, need more authoritative guidance, HMMMMM, standing is convinient, sitting pleases the lord, Quran is silent too, have to relie on hadith, standing is out, sitting it is. Bravo mullah- you the man.

When it comes to proper questions like, killing of Jews and murtads and pagans, that damn wiki is again useless. Have to go with the Quran here, crystal clear, no after thought or remorse, one swing of the sword right accross the jugular, such clarity, such purpose and strength.

Now who cares if mundane, irrelevent stuff like the cure of cancer, or for that matter of malaria is not to be found by Quran-ing stuff. We all die in the end and meet the lord, and that cycle is not disrupted if you die after a 100 years or after one.

Actually I love wikipedia and I do use it*wink*.However, the reference for this http://www.pashtunforums.com/249233-post7.html wasn't from Wikipedia for the simple reason that it is a routine boring stuff that I HAVE to study for my research on pathology of neurodegenerative disorders, malignant carcinomas and infectious biology.LOL!! Plaques and Tangles should be in Wikipedia since they are the considered as suspects in AD's progress.I would have been disappointed if they were not mentioned.Since you questioned the source of my information about plaques and tangles so here are few references out of 792 scientific publications on plaques and tangles in AD and 74061 on just AD (including those 792).

Alzheimer disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease and one of the most common diseases in the industrialized world. Clinically it is defined by a slowly progressing loss of cognitive functions, ultimately leading to dementia and death.Neuropathologically it is characterized by the aggregation and deposition of misfolded proteins, in particular aggregated b-amyloid (Ab) peptide in the form of extracellular senile (or neuritic) ‘‘plaques,’’ and hyperphosphorlylated tau (t) protein in the form of intracellular neurofibrillary ‘‘tangles’’ (NFTs). These pathognomonic changes are often accompanied by abundant microvascular damage, including vascular amyloid deposits, and pronounced inflammation of the affected brain regions.http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20955934

Alzheimer disease is the most common form of dementia in the aged population. Pathologically, Alzheimer disease is characterized by progressive synaptic and neuronal loss and the presence of diagnostic amyloid plaques, consisting of fibril b-amyloid peptide aggregates and neurofibrillary tangles containing hyperphosphorylated tau protein filaments. Although plaques and tangles were originally considered the mediators of neurotoxicity in Alzheimer disease, recent research has underscored the roles of soluble β-amyloid oligomers and tau molecules. Furthermore, new evidence has re-emphasized the important roles of endocytic, autophagic, and lysosomal pathways in Alzheimer disease pathogenesis-including the finding that deficiency or mutations in the gene that encodes presenilin 1 (the most common cause for early-onset familial Alzheimer disease) impairs the maturation of the lysosomal proton pump. The author discusses recent developments in the perspective of Alzheimer disease pathogenesis and potential therapeutic interventions.

The complex neurodegeneration underlying Alzheimer disease (AD), although incompletely understood, is characterised by an aberrant re-entry into the cell cycle in neurons. Pathological evidence, in the form of cell cycle markers and regulatory proteins, suggests that cell cycle re-entry is an early event in AD, which precedes the formation of amyloid-beta plaques and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs). Although the exact mechanisms that induce and mediate these cell cycle events in AD are not clear, significant advances have been made in further understanding the pathological role of cell cycle re-entry in AD. Importantly, recent studies indicate that cell cycle re-entry is not a consequence, but rather a cause, of neurodegeneration, suggesting that targeting of cell cycle re-entry may provide an opportunity for therapeutic intervention. Moreover, multiple inducers of cell cycle re-entry and their interactions in AD have been proposed. Here, we review the most recent advances in understanding the pathological implications of cell cycle re-entry in AD.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common age-related dementia. Unfortunately due to a lack of validated biomarkers definitive diagnosis relies on the histological demonstration of amyloid-beta (Abeta) plaques and tau neurofibrillary tangles. Abeta processing is implicated in AD progression and many therapeutic strategies target various aspects of this biology. While Abeta deposition is the most prominent feature of AD, oligomeric forms of Abeta have been implicated as the toxic species inducing the neuronal dysfunction. Currently there are no methods allowing routine monitoring of levels of such species in living populations. We have used surface enhanced laser desorption ionization time of flight (SELDI-TOF) mass spectrometry incorporating antibody capture to investigate whether the cellular membrane-containing fraction of blood provides a new source of biomarkers. There are significant differences in the mass spectra profiles of AD compared with HC subjects, with significantly higher levels of Abeta monomer and dimer in the blood of AD subjects. Furthermore, levels of these species correlated with clinical markers of AD including brain Abeta burden, cognitive impairment and brain atrophy. These results indicate that fundamental biochemical events relevant to AD can be monitored in blood, and that the species detected may be useful clinical biomarkers for AD.

The brains of many cognitively impaired patients fall into neuropathologic diagnostic categories that cannot be defined explicitly by guidelines of the National Institute on Aging and Reagan Institute. Here, 2 specific case categories are considered: i) "tangle-intensive" patients with the highest density of neurofibrillary tangles (as graded by the Braak staging system) but only moderate density of neuritic amyloid plaques (as graded by the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease); and ii) "plaque-intensive" patients with intermediate severity neurofibrillary tangles and high density of neuritic amyloid plaques. To understand these technically unclassifiable cases better, we analyzed 1,677 cases with antemortem diagnoses of dementia from the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center Registry; this registry includes both clinical and pathologic data from the National Institute on Aging-funded Alzheimer Disease Center. To evaluate the diagnostic tendencies of Alzheimer Disease Center neuropathologists, we assessed how the plaque-intensive and tangle-intensive cases were diagnosed. Tangle-intensive cases were more likely to be designated "high likelihood" that the dementia was due to Alzheimer disease, whereas plaque-intensive cases were typically designated as "intermediate likelihood." Only the Braak Stage VI tangle-intensive cases had lower final Mini-Mental State Examination scores than the plaque-intensive cases (p < 0.02). We conclude that more explicit diagnostic categories and a better understanding of the pathology in earlier phases of the disease may be helpful for guiding neuropathologists in the diagnosis of Alzheimer disease.

Alzheimer disease is characterized by the accumulation of abnormally folded protein fragments, i.e., amyloid beta peptide (Abeta) and tau that precipitate in amyloid plaques and neuronal tangles, respectively. In this review we discuss the complicated proteolytic pathways that are responsible for the generation and clearance of these fragments, and how disturbances in these pathways interact and provide a background for a novel understanding of Alzheimer disease as a multifactorial disorder. Recent insights evolve from the static view that the morphologically defined plaques and tangles are disease driving towards a more dynamic, biochemical view in which the intermediary soluble Abeta oligomers and soluble tau fragments are considered as the main mediators of neurotoxicity. The relevance of proteolytic pathways, centered on the generation and clearance of toxic Abeta, on the cleavage and nucleation of tau, and on the general proteostasis of the neurons, then becomes obvious. Blocking or stimulating these pathways provide, or have the potential to provide, interesting drug targets, which raises the hope that we will be able to provide a cure for this dreadful disorder.

Victims of Alzheimer's disease (AD) develop a progressive dementia over years, accompanied by development of neurofibrillary tangles and finally neuronal death, accumulation of amyloid plaques and deposition of amyloid in neuro-vessels. Currently AD is the major form of dementia and the fourth leading cause of death in aged population. The investigation of etiology and therapy of AD, now more than ever, needs an infusion of new concepts. The aims of this review are to analyze knowledge of the influence of ischaemic and amyloid pathology on the final development of AD, especially with regards to the etiology of AD plaques, to develop a consensus on whether ischaemic blood-brain barrier permeability for amyloid peptide or both are a valid target for AD therapy. Reviewing experimental models of AD, we will address the issue whether plaques of amyloid persist, develop with time or both in animals during different forms of experimental therapy. Based on above suggestions recent direct evidence that amyloid plaques and neuro-fibrillary tangles can be cleared from the brain is thus provided in experimental condition. Moreover, recent study provides data that immunization with -amyloid peptide decreases blood-brain barrier permeability for -amyloid peptide or restores blood-brain barrier integrity. This review summarizes the latest advances in this area focusing on investigations based on in vivo animal studies.

But when will you refute the scientific truth about AD http://www.pashtunforums.com/249233-post7.html ?

Remember you mentioned the process of demonization of brain in the developlement of AD? I would be on cloud nine if demon Pazuzu who is my another favorite besides Peeshooau uzmaray is declared to be the causative agent of AD *chuckles*

I saw your post and agree completely about the Histrionic Personality Disorder.
I will go into this back over there, but I was considering whether to contact an old college friend now a prominent specialist in the neurological field. He's too busy, I don't want to bother him.
But he would know EVERYTHING about all the latest.
These wikipedias and similar data bases are so dry AND I believe they are limited.
I would 1,000 times rather hear info from someone I know to be a top person in the field than wade through all that.
And no I don't do evil spells ! I do know your favorite Bacha Khan, he was still alive when I lived in Peshawar. And Wali Khan too. Next myth of yours ?

PS I WAS known to put together a fewtawizes for Mujahideen fighters going into Afghanistan to fight the Soviets. They came back and thanked me, saying they thought those had saved them in attacks.
                            Well, maybe, maybe not/
But I gave up that practice years ago...still have faith in ANTI-Evil Eyes, however.
