Are you speaking to Yvonne who wrote this article?

Or about the pic, which does give a feeling of what it may have been like. Difficult to picture as no photos are allowed to be taken normally.

Her husband gave no evidence to back up any of his claims.
What would Aafia's family conjure up on her behalf? They have presented nothing to my knowledge but general pleas. There were big demonstrations for her, too, I remember seeing those photos even in the Western media.
So it's not JUST Aafia's family rooting for her.

The husband did not point out any lies made by any of the parties.

For all we know, he may have been chagrined at having been left. Therefore, he perhaps is not impartial himself.
He may have a chip on his shoulder.
OR: he could have been "pressured" by Western services to cough up something suspicious about the suspect.
Or been a little keen to have some attention paid him.

So far I see little to condemn her. Seeing her in a traffic jam in Karachi is hardly incriminating.
Just because an Afghan [read American-owned/operated, most likely!] intelligence official THOUGHT she may be aligned with a group says little.
No offense to Afghan intelligence services, but they are too green at their work to be highly reliable, I would suspect.

Madam Turkey, your views are too addled with conjectures and conspiracy stuff...you don't even spare her ex-husband and call him to be on US payroll. Now what can one do with such irrationality? What about her marriage to Al-Baluchi, the Al-Qaueda operative, now in Quantanamo? What about the below?
The media has highlighted her ordeal without debating the downside of her story in objective detail. A whole generation of Pakistanis, grown up in an environment that discourages critical analysis and dispassionate objectivity ... has ... allowed their emotions to be exploited. The Aafia case is complex... The grey lady is grey precisely because of her murky past and the question mark hanging over her alleged links to militants.... Her family's silence during the years of her disappearance, and her ex-husband's side of the story, certainly provide fodder to the opposing point of view.... The right-wing parties ... have once again played the card of anti-Americanism to attain their own political ends.... Our hatred of America, based on some very real grievances, also serves as a readily available smokescreen to avoid any rational thinking.[155]

It is just ridiculous to think that US/America as the Jehadi-minded call it, victomized her for nothing although Americans have promptly released a lot of people they arrested once they were sure that the suspects were innocent. Don't think I am defending US but one should not be so sentimental as to lose balance and become reactionary.

I really feel sorry for her not for what she did but for why she did it. She didn't deserve this fate. She ought be playing a productive role in empowering her people in real sense. Whose cause did she further? I wish if Muslims could adopt another way of expressing resenment that makes them stronger in the long run.

I really feel sorry for her kids.

Nothing is true, and everything is permitted

The fact is the whole case against her is completely unfair, and it seems you guys have forgotten John Walker Lindh who only got 20 years.

She was upset with the oppression of Muslims, so she stupidly went and joined a terrorist organization. She could have been smart, and had patience, maybe even been a part of the future of Afghanistan's defense projects (weapon systems and distribution), or she could have gone to any other Muslim country and helped them with their defenses.

However, putting all that aside, she is a woman, and it is highly immoral to support her detention at one of the worst facilities in the US for women. She will be raped. You all should know that this is unacceptable. No woman should be tortured. Where is the fairness of this when others like John Walker Lindh get to sit in a prison and practice their faith????

                1. Melmastia (hospitality) - Showing hospitality and profound respect to all visitors, regardless of distinctions of race, religion, national affiliation as well as economic status and doing so without any hope of remuneration or favour. Pashtuns are widely considered to be the most hospitable people in the world and a Pashtun will go to great extents to show his hospitality.
                2. Nanawatai (asylum) - Derived from the verb meaning to go in, this is used for protection given to a person who requests protection against his/her enemies. The people are protected at all costs, in many cases even people running from the law must be given refuge until the situation is clarified. It can also be used when the vanquished party is prepared to go in to the house of the victors and ask for their forgiveness. (Is a peculiar form of "chivalrous" surrender, in which an enemy seeks "sanctuary" at his enemy's house). A more famous example of this code is of Navy Petty Officer First Class (PO1) Marcus Luttrell, the sole surviving member of a US Navy SEAL team that was ambushed by Taliban fighters. PO1 Luttrell evaded the enemy for days before stumbling upon members of the Sabray tribe who realized the wounded SEAL needed assistance. He was taken to the village and protected by the tribal chief, who even sent word to nearby US forces of PO1 Luttrell's location.
                3. Badal (justice) - To seek justice or take revenge against the wrongdoer. This applies to injustices committed yesterday or 1000 years ago if the wrongdoer still exists. Justice in Pashtun lore needs elaborating: even a mere taunt (or "Paighor") is regarded as an insult - which can only usually be redressed by shedding of the taunter's blood (and if he isn't available, then his next closest male relation). This in turn leads to a blood feud that can last generations and involve whole tribes with the loss of hundreds of lives. Normally blood feuds in this all male dominated setup are then settled in a number of ways.
                4. Tureh (bravery) - A Pashtun must defend his land/property, family and women from incursions wherever he or she might reside. A Pashtun should always stand brave against tyranny and he should always be able to defend his property, family, women and the honour of his name. Death can follow if anyone mistreats these traits.
                5. Sabat (loyalty) - Loyalty must be paid to one's family, friends, and tribe members. Loyalty is a must and a Pashtun can never become disloyal as this would be utterly shameful towards themselves and their families.
                6. Imandari (righteousness) - A Pashtun must always strive towards thinking good thoughts, speaking good words and doing other good deeds. Pashtuns must behave respectfully towards all creations including people, animals and the environment around them. Pollution of the environment or its destruction is against the Pashtunwali.
                7. Isteqamat - Trust in God (known as "Allah" in Arabic and "Khudai-ta-Allah" in Pashto). The notion of trusting in the one Creator generally comports to Islamic idea of belief in only one God (tawheed).
                8. Ghayrat (self honour or dignity) - Pashtuns must maintain their human dignity. Honour has great importance in Pashtun society and most other codes of life are aimed towards the preservation of one's honour or pride. They must respect themselves and others in order to be able to do so, especially those they do not know. Respect begins at home, among family members and relatives.
                9. Namus (Honor of women) - A Pashtun must defend the honor of Pashtun women at all costs and must protect them from vocal and physical harm.

please learn just this 9 .

Goodness gracious!!! You mean to say bioweapons? Are you thinking of joining a terrorist camp in Pakistan very soon? Is that the only way you can help your fellow MUSLIM brothers in particular and humanity in general? Imagine what she could have done with her MIT degree? Was she thinking like you before becoming extremist? At least, she could have made vaccines and drugs to cure diseases in Pakistan (Keep her away from Afghanistan). Your thinking is really dangerous--Defending her on any grounds does not mean that you should forget the difference between the "right" and "wrong" especially when you claim to be a good muslim. She forgot both her moral and professional obligations-- A highly corrupt woman who brought shame to the profession of science; who supposedly killed her son due to her adventurism; and failed to abide by the laws of the country which spent money on her doctorate degree. The worst is that her story is sensationalized persistently to indoctrinate kids and adults in order to create a blind generation of "Aafia-Mafia Maniacs".

Lolwoot! So where are those great facilities? Pakistan? Sorry for leaving a bitter taste in your mouth but facts are "bitter".

About 7,000 women and children are languishing in 75 jails across the country, both as the under trial and convicted prisoners.

As the statistics compiled by the Society for Advancement of Community Health Education and Training (SACHET) last year say; out of 1,249 under trial women prisoners, about 745 were in Punjab, 236 in the NWFP, 236 in Sindh, 19 in Balochistan, one in the Northern Areas and 12 in Azad Jammu Kashmir.

The study further adds that out of a total of 421 convicted women prisoners, 269 were in Punjab, 98 in the NWFP, 22 in Balochistan and one in AJK.

Over 1,500 women remained in jails across the country as the year closed and most were kept in extremely poor conditions. Final report indicates that of the special committee on the Hadood Ordinance constituted by National Commission for the Status of Women (NCSW) to repeal or amend the controversial law, 88 per cent of the women prisoners in the country were in jails as a result of ambiguities in the Zina Ordinance.

                  Epidemics

Women prisoners in Adiala jail have been reported to be suffering from tuberculosis and other life-threatening health conditions. The barracks in the jails with the capacity of 50 inmates have been housed with 151 women and 26 children.

A study conducted by the social work department of the Punjab University early this year said that 62 per cent of the 108 women prisoners in Kot Lakhpat Jail were illiterate. Their average age was 33 and 80 per cent of them were suffering from worse health conditions.
About 47 per cent of the prisoners complained about stinking food and broken toilets, while it was also found that medicines supplied to them were often expired.

Last year, during a visit to a jail in Larkana, the group members of the District Public Safety Commission found that no medicines were available for women prisoners.

The press reports say that in 2003, 33 per cent of the interned under-trial women were not produced in courts in Karachi for periods of three months or longer

Though the annual number of women raped in Pakistan is far greater than the statistics given in different survey reports by various organizations, the settings in which these rapes have started taking place is frightening. The old notion that perpetrators are only found in certain sections of society and that they are far away from our day to day lives, no longer holds true. It seems as if they are everywhere, plotting to get their target, as and when they wish.

Women are therefore safe nowhere. Whether in hospital wards or girls’ colleges, there are abductions or gang-rapes in the name of ‘honour.’ It is a wild, wild world out there, pregnant with silence and dampened with indifference.
Sadly, those who are responsible for providing safety to citizens are themselves involved in this heinous act. The recent confession of Constable Javed Bhatti in Lahore for having rapped a handicapped woman by taking her three children hostage is just one example of the larger picture. A similar fate was met by an 18-year old resident of Bahawal Nagar, who was raped in police custody. Another mother of a three-year old was held hostage for two days while she was repeatedly gang-raped in police custody. Once considered safe, even homes are no longer so for women in the country today. The rise in reported cases of incest which is still believed to be far less than the real number, is alarming.
Rape is a grossly unreported and legally distorted human rights issue in Pakistan and given the nature of our social structure, combined with the status of women in society, the above examples should not be very astonishing. What should concern us more is the ugly culture of silence and shame that confronts us.

I never said anything about biology, And mind you, Russia and US both have huge stockpiles of biological weapons, some which they gave to that Shaitan Sadaam to gas the Kurds in the 1980s( i think that year)

She choose the former considering the hand written notes of bioprotocols recovered from her. She is the worst example to be suggested for serving in defense sector in my opinion.

These signatories do/might/don't keep vials of small pox and Marburg viruses in their -80 freezers. If you were not talking about biology, then I think you don't know some part of her case. This does not mean that I know "everything" about her case either. She was handed over to intelligence agencies by the same country which is now calling her Dukhtar-e-Islam.She has not done anything marvelous so far and so there is no point of treating her differently than any other female prisoner. How is she different than those other women in jails? If she is a victim of American terrorism, how about those other women who are victims of a diverse array of non-American terrorism? But it does make sense to me--A smart politician will obviously know which one amongst the thousands deserve to be called "dukhtar-e-Islam".

P.S. My post was an innocuous attempt to explain that she is not a paragon of virtue, though I do feel sad for her for not using her gray matter.
