Truly, those who have faith and do righteous deeds
will the Most Gracious endow with Love:
and only to this end have We made this easy to understand,
in your own tongue, [O Prophet],
so that you might convey thereby a glad tiding to the God-conscious,
and warn thereby those who are given to contention.
[Surah Maryam 19:96-97]
We often hear this in the Qur'an; "faith and righteous deeds". The word for righteous deeds is salihaati, which linguistically implies reconciliation, healing, wholeness. So those who have faith, those who work for reconciliation, healing and wholeness, will Ar-Rahman give love to.
Do I do this? Is this always first in my life? When I think of the word "reconciliation, I also think of "reconciling our differences." Do I search for unity, or do I search for differences? Sometimes like tonight, I feel Allah keeps pointing my eyes, through different texts, toward peace making, unifying, making whole. I don't know about you, but sometimes it seems much easier to see things that alienate me from others, instead of all those things that make us a family.
Allah prepare my heart to love the way you want me to.
