I think Al Awlaqi has some issues that are based on odd opinions. As Maiwand brother said, its basically a jursiprudential issue because Al Awlaqi holds certain opinions and interprets them in a certain way.

Overall, I would say that 90% of what he says is based on general stuff that all main stream muslims believe.

Its that small issues regarding killing of infidels that strikes as odd because they are not supported by strong evidence.

Therefore I believe it is best not to follow him blindly. But to be critical of his statements and interpretations. And one should be able to verify them elsewhere.

I don't think we should neglect or ignore him just because he is now being pictured as an evil person by the kaafir media.

I still listen to his lectures and I like it. But I take the good and reject that which is refuted by early classic scholars.

I remember all a lot muslim outlets use to praise Sh. Awlaki "lives of the prophets" series and other works, and still do, but it's now alot more secret. His works and not publicized as much due to the stigma of guilt by association, despite the fact they use to play his lecture series on islamic radio shows daily.

I think a lot of what has happened with Sh.Awlaki has come from his time in prison where he was incarcerated and tortured by puppet forces having committed no crime as a means of containment because the CIA were intimidated by his following and the size of his audience. This method backfired on them, as it gave Sh.Awlaki more time to reflect on global islamic concepts and he began writing a lot more, and shifted his focus by becoming more and more of a prolific voice by devoting his time to Islamic causes rather than being hushed up.

Although it has become noticeable that Sh. Awlaki since his imprisonment has shifted from devoting a lot of his speeches where his primary focus had been summarizing classical works of Islamic scholars to concentrating on the here and now.

This has always happened to the people who are on the truth and speak the truth, the same opposition and enmity happened to the prophet (pbuh) and his sahaba, when he started to preach the truth in public, the same happened to all the other prophets. The disbelievers hate the real Islam and the real muslim. Today we are in the middle of the fiercest and biggest battle between kufr en imaan, between belief and disbelief, between Islam and kufr.

The ummah is on the verge of its revival, inshallah.

Also the people of Yemen in general are good muslims and their imaan is strong.

That was how I was assuming it is regarding this sheikh.

I don't know if they had distorted his words slightly or that was true about killing the kafirs. Did Sheikh Anwar recommend this?
          What is the actual truth?
I just didn't want to waste time reading wikipedia or some source which would feed wrong information mixed with plain facts about his life.
I saw he was from New Mexico, though, in passing, which was interesting to me, as that's such a neat area - maybe the nicest in the US in my opinion due to the old culture of the first Spanish settlers still being around in the atmosphere.

Maiwand, could you fill in some of the gaps in his life story?
I know he was originally from Yemen and went back there.
That's a neat country too, very colorful.
The Yemenis carry that Khanjar which reminded me of the Pashtun tribesmen.
There are probably many similarities between the two.

So I'd like to get the full story to evaluate.

KhyberKhan brought up his becoming more hardened due to imprisonment. Where was that, and did sheikh Anwar speak about it? Or it was too terrible?

I don't even BELIEVE any of this nonsense about package bombs.
I noted in the news story I scanned fast, that the evidence cited for Sheikh Anwar's involvement was "US officials believe..." "American sources think..."

They had nothing definitive at that point to point the finger.
I don't trust ANY of these so=called terror incidents.
I believe nearly all are manufactured in Tel Aviv !!!

Maybe a few dumb freelance types but even those are SO suspect of being pre-riggged at the exact right moment to scare Western audiences into granting more power to their govts to clamp down, and approve hefty packages of aid to FURTHER plump up the gigantic Military-Contractor Machine.

All this is pretty obvious if one is able to see. If relies on TV newscasts, they will then be chattering away about this dangerous sheikh.

This is just what the powers that be want! A new Osama to complain about and deflect the blame for what they have done wrong - like the American economy - onto a few lone figures in the Arabian peninsula. It's stupid.

Further, notice how the Congressman's video came out right before this?
          Any accident?
I'm sure his doings in this regard are well orchestrated with Mossad or these outlets...

Maybe this will make things clear to you, this is the call of Anwar al Awlaki to Jihad against US, which was released this year. You will hear his reasons and motivations:

Also see and hear this interview with him, he will make things very clear:

Thanks, Maiwand - appreciate all your work in bringing us thought-provoking videos on these subjects which matter.
              At least to discerning people.

Most are too lulled by all the wrong places so that they don't even care to entertain any novel ideas.

I watched part of one of the videos, and i have to say: this Sheikh Anwar makes sense.

He has a special soul. That doesn't mean EVERY word he speaks is going to be right, as all humans can make mistakes.
But he's coming from the right place.

In contrast the guy in Wrayun's video SOUNDED reasonable in his criticisms. But I couldn't even look at him. His voice grated every second of that video.

So I look at the soul side in attempting to make my assessments.

It's amazing the first two video's are removed. I think youtube has started deleting the video's of Sheikh Anwar Al Awlaki, I think in the future we will live in a kind of Orwellian state, where very few people will know the truth, because everywhere is doublespeak and history and the truth will be deleted from the internet, archives, books etc.

                  YouTube begins removing al-Qaeda videos

YouTube has begun removing al-Qaeda videos from its website after the British Government contacted the White House to complain about the material.

                  Published: 10:48AM GMT 03 Nov 2010
A number of clips by Anwar al-Awlaki, believed to have been the mastermind of the cargo bomb plot, were deleted from the video sharing site last night. However scores more, including incendiary calls to wage war on non-Muslims, remain.

A Google search for one of the most provocative videos - entitled 44 Ways to Support Jihad - on Google brings up more than a hundred results from YouTube. Two of the three top results have now been blocked although the bulk of the rest remain available.

Users clicking on the deleted content were confronted with a message saying "This video has been removed because its content violated YouTube's terms of service."
YouTube says its community guidelines "prohibit dangerous or illegal activities such as bomb-making, hate speech or incitement to commit specific and serious acts of violence”.
A source at Google, which owns the video sharing site, confirmed that staff had begun to take down al-Awlaki's videos after being alerted by the Telegraph's report.
The issue came to light following the case of Roshonara Choudhry who became the first al-Qaeda fanatic to attempt a political assassination in Britain when she stabbed Stephen Timms at his constituency surgery in May.
After she was convicted of attempted murder yesterday, it emerged that British-born Choudhry had been radicalised by watching internet videos of al-Awlaki.
Baroness Neville-Jones, the security minister, has called on President Barack Obama's administration to "take down this hateful material" in cases where servers were based in the US. She said websites that "incite cold-blooded murder" would "categorically not be allowed in the UK".
Al-Awlaki is thought to have been behind at least two printer cartridges which were turned into complex bombs and posted to the US last week. He was also linked to the September 11 attacks and the attempted bombing of an airliner over Detroit last year.
Lady Neville-Jones was so concerned about the problem that she flew to Washington last week to insist on action during a speech at the influential Brookings Institute think tank. In private comments to the institute, obtained by The Daily Telegraph, she said: "When you have incitement to murder, when you have people actively calling for the killing of their fellow citizens and when you have the means to stop that person doing so, then I believe we should act.
"Those websites would categorically not be allowed in the UK.
"They incite cold-blooded murder and as such are surely contrary to the public good."
"If they were hosted in the UK then we would take them down but this is a global problem. Many of these websites are hosted in America and we look forward to working even more closely with you to take down this hateful material."
The Home Office confirmed yesterday that pressure was being put on the White House to remove the sermons. A spokesman for the US State Department would say only that it had "significant legal authorities" to act "where activities on the internet pose a clear threat to the public".

In the interview linked above, he says of the young man who attempted to blow up a Northwest Airlines plane (which would have killed 289 civilians):

“About the brother Omar Farooq, he is also from my students, and also I am very proud that the likes of Omar Farooq are from my students and I support what he did.”

When he is asked about these terrorist operations targeting innocent civilians, he replies:

“As for the American public, then collectively, it is participating, for it is the one who chose this administration, and it is the one who funds the war.”

This is absurd logic and absolutely false. It contradicts clear and well-known principles and laws of Islam.

Shaykh Muhammad Afifi al-Akiti has written a detailed fatwa in refutation of such calls to indiscriminate violence and terrorism. The fatwa can be read here: Defending the Transgressed: Mudafi' al-Mazlum and here: Defending the Transgressed By Censuring the Reckless Against the Killing of Civilians.

These things are done on purpose to accomplish a mission with an agenda to control humanity. This anwar guy was a moderate muslim and then he went to jail and they transformed him to a militant to spread violence on purpose. There are 20,000 murders in america every year, nobody says nothing about it, what the causes are, how they can be reduced. How many american civilians have been killed by these people after 911. Was 911 done by them is questionable itself.
They find a few wires sticking out from a box and the news is all over it, so they can limit freedom of speech and other forms to limit information to the public. The purpose is to control information, to block videos from youtube, to wiretap people, to block the truth from getting to the general public. Their are laws that are being discussed in congress today to make it illegal to have a different opinion from the official government report about 911 on national security reasons.

Make people believe they are fighting for their freedom when in reality they are fighting to limit their own freedom is the greatest trick the devil has played on humanity. The average american is more scared on the subway or walk through central park at night from fellow americans then they are boarding a plane. The media has brainwashed the public so much that they have made them beleive that their own shadows are out to get them.

The american constitution is being rewritten and the people are busy watching out for their harmless shadows.

There is nothing special about Awlaki, the only reason why he is known is because he is one of the few (you can count them on your hand) who can communicate in English and just so happens to spew what most other zealots/fundies can't put in a comprehensible style. I have heard many of his speeches, some of them are really good, but when it comes to his recent videos the man speaks more from his personal perspective and emotions instead of being balanced. It is interested though, that he just so conveniently appeared in the part of the world that had come under global ambitions radar, where they can stretch their muscles against independent tribes free from dictatorial rule.

Sometimes I feel like that I'm watching a movie (life), it is so predictable.

I feel bad for the poor and tribal Yemeni people, I can only imagine what's in stored for them in the future. If I was them, I would hang Awlaki, even if he is innocent, before shyt gets out of hand. What sort of degenerate selfish **** would risk invasions of whole Muslim nations where Muslim children, women, elderly will be in harms way every second at the hands of non-Muslim armies..our virgins raped and molested...our elderly humiliated and degraded..while these idiots use UNDERWEAR and SHOE bombs to defend US!?!?!?

I wonder what men like Umar (ra) and Ali (ra) would do to such men where their zealotry, ego and idiocy come before the safety and security of the Muslim masses.

Screw Awlaki and every pea brain fundie zealot!

You should understand that this war between belief and unbelief, between Islam and unbelief, between America and Islam, didn't start after the september 11th attacks on New York and Washington, nor did it start after the call of jihad against the US by Osama bin Laden or Anwar Al Awlaki. This war started the day the pure Islam was preached and practiced by the prophet (pbuh) and his companions. The tyrants and oppressors of the world can't tolerate this liberating message of Islam, this message of real freedom and the worship of one Lord, that's why the battles began between the muslims against the idolators, disbelievers, pagans, jews, Romans, Persians. Later on with the Crusaders, Mongols. And that has continued with the colonisation and subjugation of the muslim world by these kufaar and it continues untill today with the modern day crusader and zionist campaighn against the muslim and Islam, under the slogan of war on terror. They want to root out the Islam that was revealed tot the prophet (pbuh). They want the muslim ummah not to defend itself or its religion. They want an American Islam which will accept their occupation, bombarding, killing, plundering, raping etc. That's why the use Sheikh Anwar al Awlaki, Sheikh Osama bin Laden and others as symbols to attack muslim countries like Afghanistan, Irak, Somalia, Yemen, to root out the remnants of the real Islam (shariah) and subjugate the muslims, occupy their countries. Just like the Qurash would attack the first islamic state in Medina. Their real enemy is Islam and muslims, especially those muslims who want to speak the truth against these tyrants and expose their evil and wicked plans and deeds. They want to silence first of all those outspoken muslims, by assassinating them and their characters and then collectively punnishing the whole population, so that a distance is created between the mujahideen (defenders of the ummah) and the laymen. They do this in Israel, Pakistan, Somalia, everywhere. But they don't realise that the ordinary muslims support the mujahideen and people like Anwar al Awlaki and they will fill their ranks if some of them become martyrs, this is also happening in Afghanistan. So the more they repress the ordinary people and bombard their villages, the more people will join the mujahideen and in that way the revival of the ummah will speed up, inshallah in the near future all those forces in different parts of the globe will be united and the khilafah can be established and Al-Quds will be liberated. As far as the munafiqs and those people who have chose the side of the kufar are concerned, they will be humiliated in this world and face a tormenting punnishment in the hereafter inshallah. Most likely they will in the long run be deported or killed in the western countries by the same governments and people that they now support, just like what happened with the muslims of Al-Andalus (former Spain).
