Chilean miner rescue a triumph of human spirit, not divine intervention

    by Daniela Syrovy

All 33 miners were rescued successfully. Was it divine intervention? Human resilience? Skilled engineers? All of the above? What matters is that they're all alive.

Unless you've been living under a rock somewhere then you know that the Chilean miners who were trapped underground for over two months have all been rescued. Safe and alive. All 33 of them.

If there ever was a time to celebrate the human spirit it's now. While the supplies the miners were given certainly helped keep them alive, I think what really did the trick was old fashioned human will and love.

That expression "if there's a will there's a way" applies perfectly to most life or death situations, and it also blows me away to be reminded about how astounding human resilience really is. A bit of tuna, support, kindness, creativity and messages from family and friends was enough to sustain a group of men for 69 days in a tiny space.

I always wonder if I would be a survivor in these scenarios. Do I have the imagination, the know-how and the guts to not concentrate and dwell on the unknown and potential impending doom and isolation? Do I have what seems like basic survival skills?

This incredible group had plenty. Among them were a poet, a chronicler of the story, someone to lead prayers, and even someone to give medical injections. They kept together and they kept busy, while the outside world worked diligently to get them out.

Some have been quick to call this "divine intervention." Rescued miners are suggesting it was a spiritual experience, saying "there were 34 of us, because God never left us alone down there," and "I was with God, and I was with the devil. They fought, and God won."

It's easy to credit God as the reason the miners survived; He gets to take credit for all things miraculous. Does He also take credit for disaster? I'm inclined to ask: if God saved them, why did he let the mine collapse in the first place?

In fact it was the Chilean government, the miners' survival skills and the engineers with their genius escape capsule that saved the day. Kudos to Chile. Thank you for reminding the world about unity, strength, the human spirit and appreciating every moment life offers.

It's very interesting how we tend to take credit for all the good that we 'accomplish' and tend to blame God for all the bad that we 'encounter'.

Daa zma lewanay Zrra gorah, daa sta lewanee Mina..
Za ba da Sahra warnakam da Iran pa Golestan,
Dalta za yao & yakta yam, halta zar zma pa Shaan

              I should.

Allah wills that people die in accidents and allah wills that they survive miraculously.

In Islam we believe that nothing happens without the will of allah.

Suppose you become an infidel. Allah wills that you become an infidel. Because he knows of your heart and your intention. Which is called free will. But your actions cannot be possible without the consent of allah. Because nothing happens, not even evil things without the will of allah.

There are good things and there are bad things. Allah prefers the good and despises the bad.

But it doesn't mean he is a baby sitter who is going to prevent us from doing stupid things.

This is why there is so much emphasis on guidance in Quran. Allah guides us by revealing the true path to us. And we should follow his path.

But if we desire things other than that which is good for us, we will commit acts that are damaging to us human beings.

There other events, like disasters and calamities that occur. We might blame human error or just random natural disasters. But it is the will of allah that those things happen. Because therin is a great wisdom. And people of understanding will realize this.

Similarly when great things happen, like the birth of a child or a marriage or establishment of peace, order and prosperity, obviously allah wills that these things happen. And again, there is great wisdom in this too. For people of understanding.

                  It was Allah Jalla Shanuhu.

Man is not able to do anything on his own.
Islam will prevail, a promise made by the Creator of this universe:

[61:8] They desire to extinguish the light of Allah with the breath of their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, even if the disbelievers hate it.

[61:9] He it is Who has sent His Messenger with the guidance and the Religion of truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religions, even if those who associate partners with God hate it.

These responses do not give us any information either to analyse the cause of the incident or the means to find a solution to the problem. By attributing physical incidents to metaphysical ones we are doing nothing except putting a period to any scientific inquiry into the causes of such incidents and hence devoiding our people or humanity at large to find a solution.

No wonder the whole muslim world have nothing to add to the knowledge base of humanity except the phrase " Wallaho aalam bissawaab" [God knows better].

^Very ignorant and arrogant of you.

The Muslims due to Islam contributed a lot to science. It was the Europeans who standardize all forms of knowledge and left out what the Muslim had contributed. Even today, peer-reviews are done and accepted mainly by Western institutions.

Moreover, there are many Muslims who contribute to the knowledge base; it is just not done under Islam.

                      Further, religious people exist everywhere.

Finally, the miners were not Muslim, yet they attributed everything to God.

Next time, get off your pedestal and humble yourself, then get acquainted with the topic before opening your mouth and exposing everyone to bad breath.
