  • The Ego and Love

    ..."we must acknowledge that we have all failed in love. This is our starting point. We have all been broken and disappointed in love because our love has been identified with our egoism, when it was meant to dissolve that egoism. We can love when we expect to get something. We can love when we have the perfect person to love. but there is no such perfect person, and even if there were, we would not know it unless we too were perfect, because we would inevitably project our own imperfections onto the other, as the masses have always done to the prophets. Allah's messengers were not loved: they were more often hated. Hatred is frustrated love, the shadow of love. It implies the presence of love corrupted by egoism. Egoism can turn beauty into ugliness, generosity into selfishness, love into hatred.

    Only love can tame the ego and bring it into the service of love."

    "our hearts may have to be broken, our false pride humbled. Love then re-creates the self."

      The heart of human being has been made by God to form attachments and to put down roots, and it is very natural for one to have strong ties and affection for a person where his/her spirit feels at home and also to feel grief at leaving it kho don't we some time accept as “love” many things which merely masquerade as love?
      [COLOR="Purple"][FONT="Century Gothic"]So long as there is the earth and the heavens;
      So long as the world endures;
      So long as there is life in the world;
      So long as a single Afghan breathes;
      There will be this Afghanistan.
      Long live the Afghan nation.
      Long live the Republic.
      Forever there be our national unity

        This topic reminded me of one of the topics on the thread today-so I thought I would boost this one up again.

          Yet the wisdom to know which is "masquerading" and which is young but genuine? Let me quote something I have just read:

          "Love and Projection"

          Materialism is not the only source of desire. Human relationships, sex, and the web of romantic love offer us a stage on which many projections can be enacted. In this arena the border between love and desire is more insubstantial. Although the advertising media would have us think otherwise, most of us know that a new car will not bring true happiness. Human relationships, however, reflect the deep need of the soul to be loved. Human affection and love are necessary , and their deprivation can cause psychological and emotional damage. But the spiritual wayfarer is seeking a deeper fulfillment than even the most loving human relationship can offer. How often is this need projected into a human relationship, a relationship that is limited by the very fact that it is human."

          Maybe my desire to be close to Allah, is confused in my human relationships? Maybe it is divine love that I am looking for, and confusing human love with the divine, and then my human lover could never meet my expectations because I would be looking for perfection.

          Just some thoughts to add to my already busy day.....
