I went to the one in Long Beach! Masha'Allah it was really good. I can't wait for it next year!
"Do not lose hope in adversity and complain that God singled you out for punishment, remitting others guilty of worse sins. Your present state could very well be His intent to elevate your spiritual station. Or He could just be testing your faith. Everyday that you persevere, you grow closer to perfection. Thus, your present despair may be the beginning of an infinite blessing". - Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani.

I call them as Bling Bling-Muslims.Not all of them. But thery are in a very large number. They might let their beard grow long, and longer. They might build big and bigger mosques. Hundreds of muslim die of proverty. What are they doing about them ? Is Islam a religion, in which you can live happily ?Where is their Zakat? What is Zakat ?
Yes, of course they have their answer for all these. They would say, "No, no those are not muslims, like we are. They are shia or they are sunnis. This is kuffir, That is kuffir. We support the right one among them." They are like rappers and rockers in Europe and America, who got specific style of life and cloths. These Bling-Bling Muslims are wearing long dresses, having long beard. A rapper would say "yo, I am a cool rapper." A Bling Bling-muslim would say yo, Man I am cool muslim. Who closes his eyes for humanity? Who pays thousands to get the title Haji, while his neighboor has not to eat ?

The Arab clones have to be given the impression that they are real and hence artificial glorification has to be done to attract them to becoming a cheerful-clone-sans-personna otherwise they might find out "What the heck am I doing?"

What bothered you because they were all smiling, peaceful, happy, enjoying themselves? Did that bother you, is that what warranted this post of yours? Seems like they are not the one with the problem.

These Muslims that you are calling "bling bling Muslims" are the ones that organize events, charities, talks, concerts, foundation etc. that are responsible for helping Muslims around the world. They are the one challenging all sorts of international ridicule and criticism against Islam through dialogue and reason while the not so "bling bling Muslims" are blowing shyt up. They are the Muslim lawyers, doctors, engineers, politicians, artists, hip hop and rock stars, fashion designers etc. etc. etc. that you can point at when people question Islams compatibility with modern times. They make your faith relevant with time so the new generation don't hate themselves or their heritage by saving it from drowning in obscurity.

And if you are not a Muslim, and Islam is not your faith, you should support these "bling bling" Muslims. Because the alternative, oh well......ALLAHUUU AKAAABAAAAAHHHH!!!

        So stop hating yo....aaaiiiGHhhht?

I for one would see such a conference as an opportunity. One human can never know what is in the heart of another human. I travel around the country giving presentations, sometimes I get little help or response. Yet I believe I am planting seeds, and I do not know when those seeds will sprout, that is not my job. Today I got an email from someone who heard me speak about the needs in Pakistan, 3 months ago, now he wants to help.

Meeting a lot of people is an opportunity to do a lot of good. It is Allah who moves the hearts of the people, according to Allah's time. We can only try to follow on Allah's Path, the Path of Islam, and leave the stirrings of one's heart to Allah.

Yes exactly that botheres. Islam preaches brotherhood.
Their brothers are crying of poverty, dieing of hunger.Losing legs and arms or lives due to land mines and rockets. They don't care about them. Infact, they pay to go for wars.

Yes, I see what they are organizing. How much do those giant Stages costs ? How much does it cost feeding a family in afghanistan and pakistan or african muslim countries for a month ?
Do you know how much does an arab family spend per night in munich germany on their vocations ? Every single arab spends 1000 € per night.
Do you know how expensive their cars are ? Do you know much a surgery of their bird costs ? And how much a sugery of a child in afghanistan ?
Don't you think that these great Islamic scholars schould go to UAE and tell them about Zakat and brotherhood in islam? Do you know any of their speech in UAE ?
These scholars give Saudi Arab as an example to others.
First I hate the name this country. It is should not be Saudi Arab. If they were to give name this Country after a family. Why not Quraish's Arab?

There are muslim lawyers, doctors, engineers, politicians, artists, hip hop and rock stars who earn averagely 2000 $. How much do they spend for Zakat ?

It is always good to have a reminder of how much we have been blessed, and now it is up to us to help those who has not yet been so fortunate. I am responsible for any one who has less than I.

And you do know that in these events when these people gather they have donation boxes set up to help the poor, hungry, and underprivileged Muslims? This is one venue to gather support and finances.

You know how much it costs? Such incentives are necessary to make it attracting and of interest otherwise

UAE, Saudi? That has nothing to do with this.

Again you are assuming and exaggerating. You have no idea what any of those people have donated. You sound bitter, and are bickering for no other reason than that of what you believe about them. Some of those people probably have done more than you can do in a life time.

                  Trust me,

If you live close by, GO! I swear if I could, I would drive up to Toronto, just to attend RIS. It is indescribable. You take so much out of it, you learn so much, you gain so much, you grow so much, inshAllah wa ta'la.

As for the regular complainers, honestly, you're not going anywhere with this.. Bling-Bling Muslims, really? Because they host a convention to educate people? Because they grow a beard? Because they supposedly don't give Zakaat? What is it to you, and what is it to me, and how does that relate to the convention in itself? At that very convention, they have fundraisers. At that very convention, people pay Zakaat. People go there to learn, they go there to grow. Maybe they didn't pay Zakaat before and after/during the convention they do because they come closer to their religion.

Live and let live. And please don't make every thread into a place to vent and rant about the flaws of the Ummah.

So there is a theme to each convention.. the upcoming convention has the theme "Reviving the 10 Commandments in the Modern World".
They get a bunch of speakers from all over the world to speak on topics related to that theme. They have lectures from around 10 am to 10 pm. They have breaks for lunch and prayers etc. So let's say there is a topic about "Loving thy neighbor" and there is 3 hours dedicated to that topic, so they will have, say, two speakers talk abut it, one and a half hour each. It sounds really long, but trust me, the speakers they get are SO mesmerizing mashAllah, you don't want them to even stop talking lol.
And they also get singers like Maher Zain for a little bit of entertainment. =)

So this goes on for 3 days.. you go there in the morning and come back in the evening.. some people even rent hotels close to the convention center so they can stay there.

If you go, remember to take a notebook and take as many notes as you can!

                        Oooh.. I totally forgot!

So the convention I went to had a really good speaker about Dhikr and the Remembrance of Allah. And there was a non-Muslim lady who was interested in Islam and attended the convention. Upon hearing that speech, she went up to one of the organizers and informed them that she wanted to convert to Islam. She then went up to the stage and took the Shahada in front of 6000 people.. Wallahi it still gives me goose bumps.

Yes, of course they have their answer for all these. They would say, "No, no those are not muslims, like we are. They are shia or they are sunnis. I think its very ignorant to label people without being at the lectures, events or fundraisers that "these people" hold. No one closed their eyes towards humanity, in fact Islamic Relief was one of the main charities that thousands of people donated money to that night. It wasn't to show up and feel superior and forget about poverty. Poverty was one of the main issues in those discussions and talking about how to better our Ummah. There were no donations to any Masjid becoming "bigger and bigger" nor was there anyone calling another person a "non-Muslim". Hell at there were psycho Evangelical Christians outside shouting at us and calling us names and the Prophet (PBUH) names- but we entered and stayed in our lectures as an Ummah.

Obviously you were not there, you didn't see anything and frankly I'm not even sure of what you know what RIS but my point is, be educated about what the hell you are talking about. Because believe me, Islamic Relief received a lot of donations that night for their orphans and other programs. I'm sure if you wanted to educate yourself before making that ridiculous claim, you could have found this information through a simple google search. I don't care what you think and what you have against other people. Think whatever you want, but if you EVER want to debate or talk about anything. EDUCATE yourself then speak. Especially when it comes to Islam. Because assuming that you are Muslim, those words that you use hurt Islam as a whole. Not a group of people whom you think are just privileged losers going around showing off their wealth.

Eccentric-- in wards to your comment about how lavishly these people are living. There was an Iman there, Mayana-- you might remember his name since I don't. Who spoke about how these Arab countries have soo much wealth and what they do with their wealth. How the money from their lives can impact poor people's lives.

Yes, we live in a crazy and sick world. **** happens and people don't even remember things, but all of those tragic events that you mentioned, at the convention they were mentioned and Wa'Allahi everyone in my row donated. We all started off at $20. At the least!!! There were over 10k or more people there that weekend and I can assure you, a lot of people donated money. Again, LEARN about the topics you want to speak of. It'll do you a world of good.

                              @ Zayam
I believe that there are alot of rich people in some islamic countries.Their son's pocket money might be higher than your salary. But aren't those poor people also religious brothers of those rich arabs ?Yes, we are their brothers, when it comes to the issue of Palestine. Those rich muslims are building mosque as museum and skyskipper as sign of their greatness, should be reminded of their duties if they are not well aware of it. I think one of the reason that poverty exists in islamic countries,is because that rich muslims are supporting islamic extremist, who dislike other muslims. The fact is that in most of islamic countries muslims are evil for Muslims.Pashtuns are evils for Parsibans,Parsibans are evil for Pashtuns. Pakistan is evil for afghanistan, Afghanistan is evil for Pakistan. If you see domestically, there is injustice, there are cruel politicians misusing islam. Don't you think if it isn't better for these scholars to go to those countries and teach them about islam and unity in islam, rather going to Western counties ?

These scholars are for benefits of non-muslims.They want to convert non-muslims that they can go as a muslim to paradise. So what about these scholars themselves ? Will they go to paradise without helping needy muslims around the world, which their duty, too?

I don't care about the numbers of muslim. It is useless to me to have the whole world as muslim, who are killers, who are robbers and suffering from poverty and having miserable life.
I want muslim that we should be proud of them who follow the true path of islamic, who are submit to One and Only God.
I am not sure if the
se kinds of talks, concerts, and speeches are for their own popularity/image or for collecting Zakat for poor muslim? And if they are collecting Zakat for poor people, do we have any example of their help in Afghanistan ? In Pakistan ? In Nigeria ? They might use those Zakat for Museum mosques. To show the greatness of islam with Museum building called mosques.

To me these islamic shows are like European and western shows, which is called"Live 8",isn't it ? Is it the islamic version of "live 8"? If these scholars are great and for the unity of muslims, then Islamic countries need them more than US and Europe. They don't believe that muslim Western countries are not as deprived of their rights as they are in islamic countries. For example some muslim countries ban burqa in Universities. Are they doing something about that ?
