    As-Salamu `alaykum wa rahmatullah

Dear readers, know that the attacks against Tasawwuf (Sufism) are attacks against the very heart of Islam. Shaytan is the enemy of Allah and the enemy of mankind; he seeks to hinder mankind from the path of love and remembrance of Allah. Tasawwuf (Sufism) is the path of love and remembrance of Allah Most High; it is the path of nearness to Allah Most High. Shaytan seeks to distance man from Allah, and so he is an enemy of Tasawwuf.

The way of traditional Islam is the way of mainstream Muslims. It has been the way of the vast majority of Muslims for over a thousand years. And Tasawwuf (Sufism) has been at the heart of it; it is the loftiest of the Islamic sciences. Tasawwuf (Sufism) has always been part of traditional curriculum at every Muslim university. Every great Muslim scholar studied and practiced Tasawwuf. Tasawwuf (Sufism) is the science of the purification of the heart; it is the science of achieving perfection and excellence in worship and character. Tasawwuf is imbuing oneself with the conduct and character of the Prophet, who is the Mercy to the Worlds (Allah bless him and give him peace).

Wahhabism is the very opposite of this. The Wahhabis are a newfangled sect that seek to misguide Muslims and lead them astray from traditional Islam. Shaykh Gibril Haddad characterizes Wahhabism as such:
Wahhabism is TA`TEEL - nullification- of the CORE of the Religion. They want all Muslims to:

    (i) make less dhikr (alone and especially in group)
(ii) pray less (especially in Ramadan)
(iii) make less du`a (alone and especially in group)
(iv) invoke less blessings on the Prophet sallallahu `alayhi waSallam
    (v) remember him less, love him as "a brother", "just a human being"
(vi) memorize Qur'an less (especially in Morocco which has the highest per capita rate of memorizers)
(vii) discard hundreds of hadiths via nincompoop gradings
(viii) avoid qualified Shaykhs in the Deen (`Aqida, Fiqh, Tasawwuf)
(ix) live lives and die deaths devoid of tabarruk and tawassul
    (x) think of Awliya' as unidentifiable and meaningless
(xi) hurl insults on the friends of Allah in thought and deed beginning with the Sahaba and down to our times. ("Islamqa.com
    typifies Wahhabism
    ")
Wahhabism is funded by petro dollars. Unlearned Muslims from traditional Muslim countries are recruited into Wahhabi schools and then sent back to their homelands to propagate Wahhabism. Such efforts have been made in Afghanistan but alhamdulillah the righteous scholars of Afghanistan have protected Afghans. It is our duty to learn Islam from qualified and reliable scholars and to make unsuspecting Muslims aware of the misguidance of Wahhabism. We must all be weary of this fitna that plagues the umma.

Ahl al-Sunna/Sunni (traditional/orthodox/mainstream) Islam is represented by the four madhhabs - Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi`i, Hanbali - in jurisprudence (fiqh), by the two schools - Maturidi and Ash`ari - in beliefs (`aqida), and by the various orders (tariqas) of Tasawwuf/Sufism, the Islamic science of the purification of the heart.

As to the recent flurry of articles attacking Tasawwuf (Sufism) on this forum, they are all characterized by ignorance and deception. They are full of misquotes and misinterpretations, as the replies to them clearly show.

    Forgive the long post.

Imam al-Nawawi (ra) said, as cited in Reliance of the Traveller:

The way of Sufism is based on five principles: having godfearingness privately and publicly, living according to the sunna in word and deed, indifference to whether others accept or reject one, satisfaction with Allah Most High in dearth and plenty, and returning to Allah in happiness or affliction. The principles of treating the illnesses of the soul are also five: lightening the stomach by diminishing one's food and drink, taking refuge in Allah Most High from the unforeseen when it befalls, shunning situations involving what one fears to fall victim to, continually asking for Allah's forgiveness and His blessings upon the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) night and day with full presence of mind, and keeping the company of him who guides one to Allah (al-Maqasid fi bayan ma yajibu ma`rifatuhu min al-din).

Why is it that Sufis always make false claims and never produce any evidence?

And now that enough evidence, articles with refrence are posted, instead of addressing them and proving why those articles are wrong, one of you Sufi fanatics *haneef) makes several threads demanding that restrictions are imposed on some members so that no more articles are shared.

And now, the "uber-Sufi" Mujib singh is making a series of false claims and accusations without eny proof in desperation because the falsehood of sufism is under threat from exposure by a few articles and videos.

Have some courage, and if your false ideology of sufism trully does represent islam, address those articles with wisdom and refer to authentic sources and explain why you think that those articles are wrong.

Why do you weep and squeal to other members warning them? People are smart enough and wise enough to see what is going on. If you have the truth with you, then address those articles rather than addressing the potential readers.

Again, I am asking you to provide evidence for your false claims and accusations. If you dont have any, then go back to your hindu temple and stay silent.

In doctrines and beliefs Muslims follow the schools of Imam Abu Mansur al-Maturidi (ra) and Imam Abu Hasan al-Ash`ari (ra).

Imam Ibn Hajar al-Haytami (ra) defined the people of heresy and reprehensible innovation (bid`a) as "whoever is upon other than the path of Ahl al-Sunna wa l-Jama‘a, Ahl al-Sunna wa l-Jama‘a meaning the followers of Sheikh Abul Hasan Ash‘ari and Abu Mansur Maturidi, the two Imams of Ahl al-Sunna" (al-Fatawa al-hadithiyya).
