I would like to share a couple of sayings that I think about a lot, and would ask you to comment, on what they mean to you.
"Allah is gentle and loves gentleness."
Inscribed on the Prophet's sword: "Forgive him who wrongs you;
join him who cuts you off; do good to him who does evil to you; and speak
the truth even if it be against yourself."
I think I have always been somewhat of a loner. While living in Pakistan I am sure this was hard for the family because of the strong sense of oneness and companionship one finds. I deeply love those I was with, and yet I still spent much time alone. I do not have this sense of belonging to any particular nation, but rather simply belonging to a Universal Family of believers or to Allah. When someone insults me, I might not like it, and might react angry or hurt at first, especially if my Nafs are strong, but in time I think, "What is Allah trying to teach me through this?" My anger is very short lived, because I believe there is always much more of a lesson to be learned. If Allah so forgives me, and I believe Allah does, then I must always try to forgive my brothers and sisters in this world.
