“This day are all things good and pure made lawful to you. The food of the people of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them. Lawful unto you in marriage are not only chaste women who are believers, but chaste women among the people of the Book revealed before your time, when you give them their due dowers, and desire chastity and not lewdness nor secret intrigues” Quran (5:5)

The point of the Quran it say the People of the book. I think the confusion arises when you say that a person who calls themselves jew or christian are they actually people of the book. Or by name People of the book. If you ask them do you follow your book, most will say no i do not know whats in the book.

So its not about rejecting the Quran its by defining what is meant by 'PEOPLE OF THE BOOK' and do such people exist today.
