    Salam alaikum

I have some questions and i want to know the answers

    1. you are standing in saff (row) wiht many ppl in front and behind you.. ur both sides are full too.. its the first or 2nd rakat of prayer and you are standing.. suddenly the person whos in front of you leaves the saff or feels bad and leaves masjid or his wozo breaks and goes to make wozo.. the saff or his place remains empty...
So can I while praying (standing behind him in 2nd saff) move forward and take his place and not let the saff empty?

    2. Being an hanafi sunni, can i pray with a shia imam?

    3. the 3 rakat witr.. Hanafi mazhab pray 3 rakat together and in 3rd rakat we recite Qunut.. Shafi mazhab pray it little different.. they pray 2 rakats and then fasten niat for 1 rakat.. sometimes all 3 together But they rise their hands in 3rd rakat and make dua..
As an hanafi what should i do? follow what the imam does or..?

    4. can we use perfume during ramadhan?

    Wa 'alaykum Salaam Angaar Wrora,

As for your first question, I think during prayer, it is wrong, as it brings to mind the Hadeeth in which Rasulullah SAW once told a man "sit down, you are causing annoyance." Of course, this Hadeeth can be interpreted in many ways, but if we put it into the context of yor question, by you moving into his space, during prayer that is, then what you are basically doing is making about five other rows behind you do the same thing to fill your space. If, once you have finished that prayer, and are certain he will not return, you may take his space as filling gaps in a saff is the Sunnah of Rasulullah SAW. However, if he comes back, and requests his space, you should give it back to him, as Rasulullah SAW mentions in a Hadeeth that one who leaves his spot in prayer and returns to it, or has reserved it by coming early or whatever reason it may be, he is entitled to that space. So basically to answer your question, during prayer, it would cause havoc if you move into a different row, but once the prayer is finished, it is fine.

About praying with a Shia Imam, I wouldn't. They commit blantant Shirk and utter blatant Kufr in many of their practices, and so standing behind a Rafidi, is something I wouldn't accept or let myself do. Islamic ruling, basically would bring it down to the fact that they are rejected within the bounds of Islam, so praying behind one, would too be considered wrong. My conclusion on what I know of them, of course, you are open to make your own and do your own research and seek fatwas or help.

The general ruling is you should follow what the Imam does regardless of your madhab when you are in a gathering or Masjid, and this does not only apply to prayer, but its times and athans too. Isolating the third Rakah of Witr is not only a Shafi practice, it is Sunnah and is recommended by Rasulullah SAW to isolate the last Rakah and do it in the late part of the night. The reason they do it that way at a Masjid is because, firstly, it is Sunnah, and secondly, they leave it open to you if you want to make use of the night to do more prayer, as the main reason we do a Witr prayer is because it seals the night prayer, and this can be done as late as just before Fajr prayer, as that is when the night ends. Rasulullah SAW did upto eleven Rakaats of Witr prayer, starting at one.

    And wearing perfume, definitely permissible.

      Your Second question:

      Question:

Are Shi'as considered Muslims? And can we pray behind them?

      Answer:

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
According to the classical and the majority of contemporary scholars, there are two types of Shias:
a)Those that hold beliefs that constitute disbelief (kufr) such as having the belief that the Quran has been altered, Sayyiduna Ali (Allah be pleased with him) is God, the angel Jibril made an error in descending with the revelation on the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) rather than Sayyiduna Ali (Allah be pleased with him), accusing Sayyida Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) of committing adultery or denying the Companionship (suhba) of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (Allah be pleased with him).
The great Hanafi jurist, Imam Ibn Abidin (Allah have mercy on him) states:
There is no doubt in the disbelief (kufr) of those that falsely accuse Sayyida Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) of adultery, deny the Companionship of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr ( Allah be pleased with him), believe that sayyiduna Ali (Allah be pleased with him) was God or that the angel Jibril mistakenly descended with the revelation (wahi) on the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give peace), etc which is apparent Kufr and contrary to the teachings of the Quran (Radd al-Muhtar, 4/453).
Therefore, shias that hold such beliefs are without a doubt out of the fold of Islam.
b)Those who do not hold beliefs that constitute Kufr such as believing that Sayyiduna Ali (Allah be pleased with him) was the rightful first Caliph after the demise of the Messenger of Allah, slander other Companions (sahaba) belief in the twelve Imams, etc
Such Shias can not be termed as out of the fold of Islam, rather they are considered to be severely deviated and transgressors (fisq).
      Imam Ibn Abidin states:
It is difficult to make a general statement and judge all the Shias to be non-believers, as the scholars have agreed on the deviation and defection of the deviated sects (ibid).
It should be remarked here that some members of the Shia community display outwardly not to have believes that constitute Kufr, but keep these beliefs in their heart, which they call Taqiyya.
The case with such people is that if they did have such beliefs that constitute Kufr in their heart but outwardly denied them, them even though according to Allah and in hereafter they will be regarded as non-Muslims, but we will judge them according to their outward statements and actions.
The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) is reported to have said:
I have been ordered to judge people according to their outward condition
Keeping the above in mind, it becomes clear that to perform Salat behind Shias that are considered to be out of the fold of Islam is out of the question, and if one did pray behind such a person, his Salat will not be valid, thus must be repeated.
If the beliefs of a Shia is not to an extent that constitutes Kufr, then it is strongly disliked (makruh tahriman) to perform Salat behind him. Such Shias, even though they are not regarded as non-Muslims, are still considered to be deviated and transgressing (fisq), thus one must avoid performing Salat behind them.
Imam al-Haskafi (Allah have mercy on him) states in his Durr al-Mukhtar:
It is Makruh to pray behind a sinner, blind person or a innovator, meaning the one who holds beliefs that are not known from the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace).
Imam Ibn Abidin (Allah have mercy on him) comments on this by saying:
The reason for not praying behind a sinner (m. in action or belief) is that he takes matters of religion lightly. Also, in praying behind such people, we are showing them respect, where as it is necessary to not show them respect..It is reported in Sharh al-Munya that to perform Salat behind such people is Makruh Tahriman. According to Imam Malik and Imam Ahmad (in a narration), Salat behind them is not valid altogether (Radd al-Muhtar, 1/560).
Therefore, Salat behind a Shia should not be performed. If one did so, it must be repeated, as it may not be valid.
      And Allah knows best

        On Witr and Sunna Prayers

        Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

        Your Third Question

        Question:

1 & 2. Is witr prayer 3 rakah in a row? Or you finish with two salams and then pray one separate?

        3. I read in Sunni Path: In the 3rd and 4th rakah of the obligatory prayer one can say Subhan Allah three times instead of reciting the fatiha?

        4. What about Sunnah Prayers? Does the rule of the fatiha plus three ayahs apply or is it in Sunnah prayer that you can say three tasbih instead of Qur’anic recital?

        5. What are Mu’akkadah Sunnahs according to the Hanafi madhab?

        Answer:

Text: [Transcribed by Sr. Huma Shah]

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem. Alhamdulillah was salatu was salamu ala sayyidina wa habibina wa rasulillah wa ala a’alihi wa as habihi wa atba’ai wa ahbabihi wa manu ala.
These are few answers on some Hanafi questions. First you asked:
1 & 2. Is witr prayer 3 rakah in a row? Or you finish with two salams and then pray one separate?
If you search in Sunni Path Hanafi archive, there are a large number of answers on the witr prayer. In Hanafi madhab, the witr prayer is a three rakah prayer which is structurally like the maghrib prayer. After two rakahs you sit, say the tashahud but after you say the tashahud you get up and you pray a third rakah. You do not say salam after 2 rakahs rather you get up and pray a third rakah.
However, in terms of recitation, it differs from the maghrib prayer in so far as you recite both the Fatiha and atleast the equivalent of 3 short verses in the 3rd rakah as well. Having done that, having recited the Fatiha and some verses of the Quran, one says ‘Allahu Akbar’, just like one says in the beginning of the prayer and one does raise one’s hands here. So having said ‘Allahu Akbar’ one recites a short dua. This is called the “qunut”. There is a specific dua that is recommended and you can find it in Hanafi archive. But the sunna itself, the obligation and its wajib in Hanafi madhab to recite the qunut, is fulfilled by any dua one says therein. So having recited one says Allahu Akbar in the 3rd rakah, places one’s hands as one does when one recites. Recites any short dua, any dua that you know in Arabic would do minimally. However, it is recommended to recite the specific dua of qunut. Therefore, take the means to learn it.
        3. I read in Sunni Path: In the 3rd and 4th rakah of the obligatory prayer one can say Subhan Allah three times instead of reciting the fatiha?
This is only in the obligatory prayer. Not in the wajib prayer such as witr, nor in any of the sunna or nafl prayers. In those prayers, one has to recite the Fatiha and a surah in each rakah. As for the obligatory prayer in the 3rd and 4th rakah, it is best to recite the Fatiha. But the ruling of reciting the Fatiha is that it is a sunna. The sunna is also fulfilled in the 3rd and 4th rakah of the fard prayer only whether current or past performance by reciting Subhan Allah 3 times. Infact, it is sub-optimally sufficient to simply remain silent. So if one wants to be careful and the way of caution is best, one would recite the Fatiha but one would be fulfilling the sunna according to the Hanafi school if one simply says: ‘Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah.’
My teachers in Damascus said that even when one is making up prayers it is best that one still recite the Fatiha and there’s great reward in it. Because there is clear hadith that, ya’ani, one’s past prayers will be judged just as one’s current prayers will be judged and they will be up for reward or punishment. So one does so in the best way. Also the benefit of doing so is that just in case something happened and one’s prayer was not valid according to the Hanafi madhab one would have covered all bases and ones prayer will be valid according to other madhabs as well.
So this is the detail. One can say Subhan Allah instead of the Fatiha in obligatory prayers, not in wajib, sunna or nafl prayers. This is the Hanafi school.
        4. What about Sunnah Prayers? Does the rule of the fatiha plus three ayahs apply or is it in Sunnah prayer that you can say three tasbih instead of Qur’anic recital?
No! In all prayers that are not obligatory, that are not fard whether they be the necessary prayer, a wajib prayer such as witr, or they be confirmed sunnas or they be nafl prayers, all such prayers one has to recite both the Fatiha and the equivalent of 3 short verses of the Quran in each rakah, doing so is wajib. If you leave it, the consequence of leaving a wajib applies which has been explained in the archive several times.
        5. What are Mu’akkadah Sunnahs according to the Hanafi madhab?
There is a detailed answer by Sidi Sohail Hanif about the sunna mua’kkadah prayers. This answer can be found in the archive insha’Allah.
But in short, the sunnas in the Hanafi madhab are 2 rakahs before the obligatory Fajr prayer. This is the most strongly emphasized of the sunnas.
There is 4 rakah before the Zuhr prayer. It is 4 sunna in the Hanafi school and not fulfilled by praying 2 rakah therein which is in other madhabs. In Hanafi madhab one has to pray 4 rakahs before the Zuhr prayer with one set of salams. After the obligatory Zuhr prayer the sunna is 2 rakah.
There are no confirmed sunna prayers with the Asr prayer.
After Maghrib and after Isha the confirmed sunna is 2 rakahs and ofcourse after that there is the witr prayer which in Hanafi school is wajib.
With this there are non-confirmed sunnas which are recommended which are to pray 4 rakah after the Zuhr prayer. Either one can include the 2 rakahs of the confirmed sunna or pray them separately.
Likewise, before Asr, it is recommended among the non-emphasized sunnas to pray 4 rakahs therein.
After Maghrib, it is recommended to pray 6 rakahs. One can count the 2 rakahs that he prayed. It’s called the Awwabeen prayer. It is one of the recommended prayers. One can include the 2 rakahs of the sunna of the Maghrib in them or pray them separately.
Likewise, before Isha one can pray 4 rakahs or minimally 2. These are recommended as well. After Isha it is recommended to pray 4 rakahs and one can include the 2 confirmed sunna rakahs therein or pray them separately.
I think that deals with your questions about the 4 sunnas before Zuhr and insha’Allah you will find rather detailed answer by Sidi Sohail Hanif explaining all of this in the Sunni Path archive. It is easy to find insha’Allah and we’ll be reposting it today or tomorrow on Sunni Path itself as a current answer because this is something that people wonder about a lot.

          Your fourth Question

          Question:

I was wondering if it's permissible for a woman to wear just kohl while fasting? As well, can body spray (not perfume or containing alcohol) be worn if one smells of odours after a work-out while out in public (school)? How about Ithar? Can it be permissible during Ramadan and after the Holy month?

          Answer:

          Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,
I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.
It is permitted to apply kohl and oil (and other cosmetics a), without dislike, when fasting. [al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya; Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar] Perfume has the same rulings when fasting.
However, it is not permitted for women to go out wearing perfume, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) firmly forbade it in rigorously authenticated hadiths. Deodorant and creams that have a light scent -- such that it isn't obviously discernable to others unless they get really close -- are permitted; however, women should avoid heavily scented personal care products.
          Wassalam,
          Faraz Rabbani

as far as your first question is concerned.

The prayer is invalidated by extraneous movement, even if done absentmindedly, by doing (a) three continuous large movements, or (b) one gross movement, or (c) one movement in play, even if small.

                1. Yes. "Excessive movement" invalidates the prayer. One who needs to move forward can do so and avoid "excessive movement" by taking a step, pausing, then taking another step. See Walking while praying in congregation.

                3. You can repeat the witr prayer after the jama`a.

Faraz Rabbani is not really a source of knowledge. It should be questioned whether a prayer is accepted while praying behind a man like him.

So who is he to give fatwa's on Shi'a

Salaamoona Angaar wrora, I hope I find you well

For your first questions, let's just put rational thinking into place for a sec. The "Jam'ah" (congregation) is for the purpose of coming together, correct? And if there is a gap in the row, someone has to fill it whether it is the people who are standing on the sides or someone from behind. In the Jam'ah, we act together, we follow the Imam together, and we are gathered in rows. Any gap to the row would terminate the meaning of Jam'ah" kana? Regardless of the movement involved since now something MORE important has come up that needs to be dealt with.

Rasullulah (saw) commanded us to form compact rows and forbade us to leave gaps for the Shaytaan. [Ahmad, 5691; Abu Dawood, 666; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Saheehah.

As for praying behind a Shia, it depends on his beliefs. This is a common misunderstanding for people however most of us do not realize that most of the laymen in the Shi'i sect do not even know about their own beliefs! (surprisingly) So you would have to investigate on the Imam because many people call themselves Shia because they happen to be born into that sect yet their beliefs are not Shia (don't ask me how that happens lol) Kho, if the Shia is aware of Shia beliefs and believes in them then it is not permissible for you to pray behind this imam. According to Sheikh Ibn Baaz it is not permissible for the reason that you are not allowed to pray behind one who seeks the help of anyone other than Allah or anyone who exaggerates concerning the Ahlul Bayt.

For your third question, as I mentioned before, the purpose of the Jam'ah is to be in unison. If the Imam prays the Shafee way and you are Hanafi, you should follow the Shafee way when you are behind this imam in order to maintain the congregation. The term Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jam'ah means that we are the people of the Sunnah and part of the "jam'ah" or congregation since it may also cause fitnah in your masjid if people start praying different.

Perfume for men is recommended all the time actually. Rasullulah (saw) said ‘No man takes a bath on Friday and purifies himself as much as he can, and makes his hair tidy, and puts on perfume, then goes out, and does not come between two people, then prays as Allaah decrees for him and listens attentively when the imaam speaks, but he will be forgiven for his bad deeds between this Friday and the other.’” (al-Bukhaari, 843). As for women, it was narrated that Zaynab, the wife of ‘Abd-Allah ibn Mas‘ood (may Allah be pleased with her and her husband) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said to us: “If one of you (women) wants to go to the mosque, let her not put on perfume.”
                            Narrated by Muslim (443).

And ofcourse, in the end, Allah (swt) knows best.

Take care, I hope it was helpful to you

                              Got it

I will concentrate on what u wrote..
So it means when u r in masjid, u are both hanafi and shaafi.. depends on what ur imam is?

Take care, I hope it was helpful to you
I always thought that perfume contains alcohol and it must be haram to use ,, but we dont drink it.. maybe it changes the meaning of alcohol to something giving good adore.. I will still wait for some more stuff from the guys.. lets see what others say
