  • Kadu sharif (Holy pumpkin)

In our Pashtun areas, pumpkin is addressed as "kadu sharif", that it was favorite food of Hazrat Muhammad p.b.u.h. You are inviting trouble if you say you dont like kadu sharif. Do you also call it "kadu sharif"?

I wonder why Meat is not called "Ghwakha sharif" as it was liked best by Hazrat Muhammad p.b.u.h.

Entire books are written about 'fazail' of kadu sharif. .:: Kadoo Sharif Ky Fazail o Fawaid :: Urdu Book ::.

It is said that Imam Abu Yousaf was once relating the Hadith that Holy Prophet p.b.u.h liked Kadu. A man in the majlis said that he does not like kadu. Imam Abu Yousaf at once drew his sword and told the man that he should repent or he will get beheaded.

In my opinion kadu is just a kadu, and is just a vegetable like other vegetables. Calling it Kadu sharif is stepping into the territory of worshiping the Prophet.

I do know about the saying that it was Prophet Mohammad's (p.b.u.h) favourite vegetable. My mother once told me it was 'khozh kaddu' (the sweet round pumpkin) . But i have never heard anyone including Pashtuns use the 'sharif' title with it. It's just absurd. I don't believe that such foolish people exist who call a vegetable 'sharif' because it was liked by Prophet Mohammad (p.b.u.h) or that they'll behead a person who doesn't call it sharif.
'Kaddu' is used for a person who has a rather large head and is dumb by many people around me. Nobody thinks that the person using kaddu in such an offensive manner is somehow disrespecting Prophet Mohammad p.b.u.h. Never has anyone been named 'gustakhe Rasool' and punished in any way for it.

Hey somewhere in the book ot's written 'humarey barelvi maslak? Seriously, is it written by a barelvi guy?

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم also liked dates, cucumbers, sweets, roasted lamb shoulder, and milk.

          Same.

That story about Imam Abu Yusuf rahmat Allahi alayh sounds like a complete fairy tale. Is there a source for it?

The only reason my mother mentioned that hadith(with different vegetables at different times) was so I eat that specific vegetable..
E.g. 'ala shaba tepar okhora. Ta ta pata da che da Peghambar tepar khwakh vu?'
Now repeat it with 'tindi', 'batingar', 'kadu etc.. and you have a whole bunch of children eating vegetables!
