Go for it, I think if you can blend hard science with humanities, like a hybrid of biological and social anthropology that'd be awesome. Just be wary of the ideologically motivated Professor's, there are lots of them.

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

I'm actually thinking of a combination between philosophy(mainly political and Legal) and Islamic studies. I guess a better way way to phrase that is a combination between Islamic and Western Philosophy(my base is in Islamic thought but I think we can learn from the western intellectual tradition to revive our own stagnant tradition).

Yeah that's another area where you have a bunch of creepy ideologue professors who want to convince students things like "open relationships" basically, soft-cucking , is a progressive relationship model.

        Key example

She's a Professor of Philosophy at University of BC in Canada, lot of times. Modern day philosophers are often a travesty that use a lot of hyperbolic reasoning dressed in some intellectual babble to justify their short comings.

Is our view of romantic love too narrow? A philosopher makes the case for polyamory. - Vox

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

Not gonna lie... I don't care for Iblis's boring new agey "we are all one" warped version of Islam... but the fight between Rooh and Porus... NOICE!!

Keep fighting, guys. This is awesome. Porus called Rooh a typical lower class punjabi, and Rooh said he'd shove pakoras in Porus's mom's VJ.

Hmm... it's a sad day. I thought most were irreligious... turns out it's only half. It's sad because I was wrong about something *cries*

Having said that... check it, 6 of the 12 who voted Muslim are visible. 1 of the 12 who voted either atheist or agnostic is visible. I was right about they'll never admit it.

SUCCCKKKKAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.... Too cool. That's my new name.

              Too... f*cking.......... *total silence*........... cool.

You know you're mentally colonized when you call something that was espoused by the Ishraqiyah Tradition of Urafa over 1000 years ago as "new agey"

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

I view it as more than simply "superstitions" that helped us explain what we couldn't explain or provide solutions when we lacked the depth of knowledge we have amassed till now or deal with our mortal anxieties/fears. I believe religion reveals profound insights into who we are as humanity and reflects a great deal about the structure and orientation of our instincts and drives, how morality became morality, how ethics became ethics. Why certain things are timelessly relevant and certain things are dynamically fluid in relation to context and relevance/need.
I agree. I think it's very simplistic when people (especially atheists) narrow down religion into superstitious beliefs that can't be proven. A better study of religion would be to ask where these beliefs came from and what makes mankind shift from one faith to another. I think the Quran in the same way is more about the history of how Arabs changed their faith. It's insight into their culture, their time, their poetry and their politics even. I'll admit I haven't studied it in depth but if I do, I'd like to carry that attitude with me, and not 'oh quran violent cos women oppress'

Without getting too much into "Woo Woo", religion for me is an anthropological testament to our relationship to nature as much as it a vehicle for transcendence. In line with the Hermetic Adage "As Above, So Below".
I'd also add how it was a convenient tool for people (specifically minorities) to rise up against tyrannical regimes. The example of Buddhism is I think one, as the lack of caste system in Buddhism did inspire a lot of Indians to change their faith (specifically low caste Indians), same was the case when Islam arrived to the subcontinent.

The word "Islam" is not really in reference to a creed we've come to know as Islam. it's a term used to describe a Reality beyond words, hence everything at its core is Islam and there are "Muslims" who may not call themselves Muslims, and Non-Muslims who call themselves Muslims. Only God knows who is who. There is an Islam hidden in the Zoroastrian's fire, in the Hindu'ss Idol, in the Atheist's denial, Just as there is kufr in videos of thugs parading around decapitated bodies as if they're trophies by so called "Mujahideen".
I wish I could frame this. It's a perfect example of what Islam could be considered if many more Muslims had a humble sense of their religion as opposed to their arrogance towards Zardoshti's fire or Shaivite's idols.

I believe there's a quote by Shabistari, "agar Mu'min zandaqa danesh kada kho baresh iman paida mekona. agar iman danesh kada kho baresh zandaqa paida mekona

(that could be a paraphrase, if you know the actual quote please provide it).
My Persian is really weak, but I assume that means if a heretic searches for knowledge he finds God, and if a man of God seeks the truth he becomes a heretic? Correct me if that's wrong.

I'll pitch in just one point: I don't think 'liberalism' or 'democracy' are synonymous with the West. It's a privilege enjoyed by them rather. They didn't want Iran to become Secular democratic, the Palestinian and Kashmiri liberation forces used to be secular in nature and had very little support from them. Western culture =/= secularism

So you DO have a sister. That's why you didn't respond to it. Man before you 'kick my ass' I'd like to get deep inside if you know what I'm saying. Can you make it happen?

You're on the right track, It's something like if the believer really understood idol worship, he' see that within it there is genuine faith i, and if he understood iman, here switching the meaning to suggest the shallow idea of faith many Muslims have, he would see it is as a form of idol worship.

Shabistari is much more poetic, this is sort io a corruption of Shabistari, (and my Farsi is also limited, so it's a corruption of a corruption) . But that's the rendering that comes to mind.

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

Ah that makes sense! I assumed by 'Danesh' you meant knowledge, but you were saying 'danesh kardan' as in 'to know'.

It's a shame that we can't be more humble. My main reason for actually leaving Islam hasn't got much to do with not believing in God, in fact I'd still consider myself a Muslim regardless of atheism, but the zeal of the wider community puts me off. The same zeal doesn't exist in atheist Jews and Hindus, it's very possible to be both at the same time.

right , to know, to understand ....like I said my Farsi isn't the best either.

It's not so much the zeal that bothers me but the idea that we're so confident in our ignorance, Nabi(saw) himself said to seek knowledge even if we must go to China to find it.

Actually, I said that I would fry pakoras in his mother's kus. Perhaps, there is not as much imagination with pashto, but in terms of punjabi, I was comparing his mother's wet kus to an oil laden pot that is used to fry pakoras.

Porus is a typical self hating Lahori. He started the mother/sister insults so I responded, otherwise he is just another hipster lahori gaandu trying to be condescending towards Muslims and especially Pakistanis that follow Islam.

I am a simple man. I come here to troll, and when I see agnos or atheists I rip on them. Easy targets. These morons would be stupid to think that I actually give a single **** about them, or If I would actually even approach their mothers or sisters that they ***** out. lol
