Excellent, thank you.Originally posted by Toramana View Posthttp://www.theguardian.com/world/201...es-iran-cleric
"Women to blame for earthquakes, says Iran cleric
Women behaving promiscuously are causing the earth to shake, according to cleric, as Ahmadinejad predicts Tehran quake"
So lets go to this key section:
So right now, you are asking a group of orthodox sunnis (which comprise some 90+% of Pashtuns) why a shiite cleric made this statement?"A divine authority told me to tell the people to make a general repentance. Why? Because calamities threaten us," said Sedighi, Tehran's acting Friday prayer leader. Referring to the violence that followed last June's disputed presidential election, he said: "The political earthquake that occurred was a reaction to some of the actions [that took place]. And now, if a natural earthquake hits Tehran, no one will be able to confront such a calamity but God's power, only God's power ... So let's not disappoint God."
Well the cleric appears to believe that he has communications from the divine.
This sort of talk is in direct contradiction to sunni theology and no sunni would ascribe to his commentary regardless.
So you would have to ask a shiah why his cleric made this remark and what was his theological validity for this.
A sunni outright dismisses this man's statement based on the bolded section."2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote

"Many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes," Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was quoted as saying by Iranian media. Sedighi is Tehran's acting Friday prayer leader."
I am witness to this kind of explanation. In 2004, when earthquake occured in Pakistan, Mullahs called the causes as the low morality and lack of chastity in women.
Nevertheless, instead of responding to these high-profile but uneducated Mullahs, you try to target the person who quotes them. Not an educated behavior. It is a fact that most Muslims don't agree with these explanations. And scholars with odd explanations exist in every religion. No need to feel that way about it.

There are lots of mullahs who make stupid statements. The problem is they have absolutely no modern education.
Also then we have extremists like him who ask people to be killed for not fasting

Wrong. First of all, your referencing some random mullah doesn't mean anything because we don't have proof it ever happened.Originally posted by Toramana View Post"Many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes," Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was quoted as saying by Iranian media. Second, even if it happened, as I tried to convey to you, sunni doctrine demands that even scholars provide the burden of proof.
The proof the shiite scholar provided was that he "speaks to the divine" which is sacrilege in sunni orthodox doctrine.
Second, we would once again need the full speech of the mullah's commentary to know what exactly he meant.
For instance, Judeo-Christian and Islamic theology all attribute instances (key word instances) of divine retribution to God. For instance, Noah's flood, Soddom and Gomorrah, or the offer from Archangel Gabriel to crush Taif in a quake for its blasphemous behavior toward the Prophet.
If he was referencing this, he is making a theological argument for improving spiritual behavior based on the texts.
If however the Mullah said "Going to school for women is going to cause an earthquake"
Then its very appropriate for the flock to challenge the supposed shepherd.
I myself have challenged a Mullah in a village. He was preaching about the nature of Iblis and was referring to him as an archangel. I pointed out to him the verse where Iblis is clearly called a jinn and he tried to claim the Quran copy I had was a shiah Quran. I asked someone else to bring a Quran from the mimbar and showed him the same verse.
A famous engineer also challenged a mullah in Waziristan who was trying to misquote or misapply the verse on female inheritance to deprive a female child of her inheritance.
In fact, this very criteria of challenging is what led the formulation of the isnaad process where even the authority of individual Sahabaa was challenged and discussed in great detail.
THe Saudi ulema are also not considered, as the shiite ulema are, the end all authority with a channel to the divine.
See for instance this rebuke of Bin Baaz.
Additionally, most of the sunni world took exception to Bin Baaz's now infamous fatwa permitting non Muslim soldiers in Saudi Arabia against a direct Prophetic instruction... so you really dont have much to go on here."2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote

Ibid as per above.Originally posted by Toramana View Post"Al-Luhaidan added that driving could have a reverse physiological impact on women and could affect her ovaries and push the pelvis higher as a result of which their children are born with clinical disorders of varying degrees."

Additionally, he provides no basis, medically or in the religious literature to buttress his statement. Therefore, it is easily acceptable for a physician or someone to question his conclusion.
There is no basis in sunni theology to accept his word as "the divine""2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote

LOL. you have been here a short time. Toramana's goal is not to list out the false scholars.Originally posted by Tamim View PostToramana,
whether what these people have said is correct or not is besides the point.
Why is it that those who disagree with someone's opinion do not refute what they disagree with. To mock and ridicule is easy.
One should not expect people to take their approach, i.e. "scientific", in order to reach a conclusion, or else their whole opinion is wrong.
Why don't you use your "scientific" method to disprove him?
"Scientificists" are so quick to judge someone wrong. If they only knew how "scientists" reach their conclusion. Follow the money trail.
You and I both know as practicing sunni that it is a small subgroup (as opposed to the basic theological doctrine of shiites which covers a wider swathe) that thinks everything coming out of Saudi Arabia is ipso facto divine law.
In fact the very basis for some of the "world wide" insurgency doing attacks in Saudi Arabia is their disregard for the fatwas of the Saudi Monarchy.
No, when you get to know Toramana, you will see this is just his Marxist world view on things... he thinks that by taunting religion he will somehow wake up Pashtuns to the notion that what they are smoking is the "opiate of the masses." Instead he usually goes away with his tail between his legs since most folks just dismiss his insidious reasoning outright."2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote

The unfortunate state of affairs is that people have fallen in the trap of pseud-science and scientist philosophers.
Those who have studied science at higher levels understand that science is not the answer, it is but an apparatus.
Those who have not studied science or have just gotten their feet wet, have this mystical view of it.

Read tehse SUNNI Fatwas and verses and hadith
Undoubtedly the earthquakes that are happening these days are among the signs which Allaah uses to frighten His slaves. All the earthquakes and other things which happen and cause harm and injury to people are because of shirk and sins, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meanings):
“And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much” [al-Shoora 42:30]
“Whatever of good reaches you, is from Allaah, but whatever of evil befalls you, is from yourself” [al-Nisaa’ 4:79]
Our response when there is an earthquake or some other sign such as an eclipse, strong winds or floods, should be to hasten to repent to Allaah and pray to Him for safety, and to remember Him much and seek His forgiveness, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said when there was an eclipse: “If you see anything like that, hasten to remember Him, call on Him and seek His forgiveness.” (Part of an agreed-upon hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari (2/30) and Muslim (2/628)).
