Insurgents from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) have ordered all shopkeepers to put veils on the faces of mannequins in their shops.
The crackdown by ISIS militants on shop mannequins comes as the group took control of Iraq’s largest city, Mosul in their latest offensive.
The shopkeepers have reportedly covered the faces of both male and female mannequins following the ultimatum issued by ISIS militants after capturing the city.
The move by ISIS militants to cover faces of mannequins, is in line with strict interpretations of Shariah law forbidding artwork or statues depicting human form.
According to reports, ISIS militants have also ordered Christians to convert to Islam, pay a tax or face death and imposed an ultimatum last Saturday.
Mosul was said to be the home to some of the most ancient Christian communities in the region where around 5,000 christians were once dwelling. However, only 200 christians are left in the city after it was taken by ISIS militants.
