  • You have option of no fasting during Ramadan!

Keeping in view the events taking place in China and the one in India, Muslims have to think over changes in practices of Ramadan.

Personally I see people doing some hard manual work and even cannot drink water in hot weather. Similarly teenagers going to schools have a lot of issues with fasting. In some countries days are longer and one has to keep fast for more than 15 hours. I think it is beyond human capacity. Thus those who keep fast with difficulty should resort to other means to achieve the target of fasting(piety)

Quran allows you to keep fast or feed others. If keeping fast is not possible then you may go for some charity. Quran clealrly give you this option.

(Fasting) for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a poor person (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast, it is better for you if only you know." (2:183-84)

yeah, poor teenagers of first world countries fasting while attending classes and participating and extra curriculum activities meant to keep them occupied so they don't drop on the floor and die of boredom, obesity or having nothing else to do.
i mean, fasting is for the kids, adults and the elderly of third world countries where they are lucky if they get to eat a nutritionally efficient meal once a year, let alone during ramazan. you know, with hard labor, bad weather and lack of electricity, it will be even more economical for them if they added a couple extra months of fasting in there through out the year. heck, what do they need food for.
why must you always have your God damn feet in two different boats?? why can't you just decide which religion you believe in and just go with it?? WHY BE SUCH A COWARD??

I swear by the grace of Allah, it is more easy to work in Ramadhan than normal.
I work for 9 hours a day, get up at 6 am and finish at 6 pm in a country where the legnth of saum day is about 18 hours, I feel no hunger and no thirst as compared to the normal days where i become thirsty every after one hour.
Allah gives sabar no doubt in Ramadhan. These are excuses who make such arguments.

I can understand your sarcasm of attaching fasting with poverty and recommending more fasting for poor countries but it is not only food but also water. Many people die of hunger in the world but not of thirst so far as at least nature is kind enough to have water available for drinking almost every where. It may be safe or not but at least it quenches your thirst.

My religion is Islam , not Islamism. I keep fast but it is part of the religion as a way to achieve piety and I am in its favor if it is not dangerous for health and life.

You may work in an air conditioned place but think of those manual laborers in Africa and Asia who are digging drains but keeping fasts for hours and hours. I do keep fast but if Quran gives you the option of feeding poor instead of fasting then why not go for it?

The purpose is not to keep your self thirsty and hungry but righteousness or piety then the same objective can be achieved by feeding others. Why you torture yourself when you have a clear option of no fasting in Quran.

            @Baldun

Again, with all due respect, you keep bringing up this idea of Islam vs Islamism. You do not profess to the sunnah of the Prophet (saw); you question it. Thus, you cannot be a follower of Islam. The same book that you are quoting in your favour, and making it appear that you follow Islam, is the same book that mentions that you cannot understand Islam without the Prophet Muhammad (saw).

You cannot question the life of the Prophet (saw). You can ask for clarification. You do not have to agree with the clarification. However, if you still do not agree with the life of the Prophet (saw) after a full research, then it simply means that you do not accept Islam as a whole.

I do agree that there is such a thing called islamism. However, I also see that you do not fully comprehend Islam.

From the looks of it you subscribe to your own form of "islamism."

during the ramazan of 2010, a day from sunrise to sundown was 21 hours in canada. this year is 17 hours. nobody that i know of has died of lack of water or food so far. if you have a condition or you start feeling delirious, that is different. but to inject this excuse in the minds of youngsters...there is just no forgiveness for that. if you encourage people, they will achieve great things. if you constantly find excuses for them, they will be of no use. not even to themselves.

I am just trying to bring your attention to the verse of the holy Quran nothing else which gives you option of fasting or feeding poor. If you do not listen to me, at least please read the verse.

The interpretation of this verse has been given by thousands of scholars already. And we know this already. If i am fit and my health allows me to fast so i do otherwise I don't and there are hundreds of thousands of Muslims who do not fast because of their problems.
