This world is so extremely big! I don't think people understand the significance of this world. Especially in terms of god. People go around and cry about the everyday life, and disbelief in god because ''if god existed, why would he put such hardship on me''. Imagine if god created all this and how big it is compared to you, why would god put any importance to you.
My point is, do not compare yourself to god. No matter how technological advanced human kind becomes, it will still be in no comparison to the universe.

DSM0305, I think its a matter of perspective really, for theists that aspect of the world/universe around us which Albert Einstein referred to as the "mysterious" is a sign of the creator but for me, it is yet another reason for why religion is improbable. The great Physicist and Nobel laureate, and a scientific hero of mine, Richard Feynman (also the author of that magnificent 3 volume exposition of the core of undergrad Physics, the Feynman lectures on Physics), has articulated this view well:
"And so altogether, I can't believe the special stories that have been made up -about our relationship to the universe at large because they seem to be... too simple... too connected... too local, too provincial! The Earth! He came to the Earth! One of the aspects of the God came to the Earth, mind you! And look at whats our there; it isn't in proportion."

Similarly, I cannot bring myself to accept that the answers to the most fundamental questions of existence was set in stone by aggressive Middle Eastern pastoral/agricultural societies thousands of years ago (this is what Feynman means with "too provincial"). Richard Feynman often talked about his "scientific view", that is because he, like most of the great scientists, understood very well that, to quote another scientific hero of mine who also comprehended the conflict between religion and science well, the Astrophysicist Carl Sagan: "Science is not a body of knowledge but a way of looking at the world". Here is another articulation from the great Biologist and another hero of mine, E.O. Wilson who said (in that beautiful work "Consilience: The Unity of Knowledge" which embodies the scientific spirit so very well)
“Still, if history and science have taught us anything, it is that passion and desire are not the same as truth. The human mind evolved to believe in the gods. It did not evolve to believe in biology. Acceptance of the supernatural conveyed a great advantage throughout prehistory when the brain was evolving. Thus it is in sharp contrast to biology, which was developed as a product of the modern age and is not underwritten by genetic algorithms. The uncomfortable truth is that the two beliefs are not factually compatible. As a result those who hunger for both intellectual and religious truth will never acquire both in full measure.”

There is only one thing -concerning belief- in life that I am unwilling to compromise a minutiae on and that is my scientific worldview. I am not strictly an atheist if the question is the God of the deist or a creator in the abstract (I am an agnostic on that) but I am an atheist when it comes to religion. For me to be a Muslim means I must compromise on my scientific worldview and I am unwilling to do so.

I divide Reality in 4 dimensions.

          1. Nature and the way is senses+observation+experiment and the subject is Science while the product is technology and material well being. Some times negative products can be like atom bombs.

          2. Mind/Reason , the way is thinking, logic , the subject is Philosophy and the product is metaphysics, ethics, aesthetics, ontology etc. Negative product can be over rationalizations, more theory than practice, mind boggling ideas, craziness etc.

          3. Consciousness and Intuition, the way is Mysticism, Spiritualism, Sufism, direct experiences, love, devotion, self Realization, God realization, telepathy, hypnotism, meditation, yoga, zen, tantra etc, Subject is all Spiritual and Para -Psychological sciences. Product is spiritual well being, peace of mind, no stress, self actualization, mindlessness, humanism etc. Negative products can be superstitions, inhuman sacrifices, cheating, quakes etc.

          4. Religion ,the way is Revelation(from a God or gods) , prophet-hood, subject is theology or religious sciences or holy books and the product is morality, worship, beliefs, faith. Religion or its misuse may have negative products like holy wars, crusades, terrorism, sectarianism, bigotry, superstitions etc.

I am of the opinion that we may not mix or supersede these 4. One cannot replace the other. For material well being we need science not religion or mysticism or Philosophy. Similarly for God we need Religion not science. Astronomy can study stars but God is more related to morality or faith than stars or celestial bodies. For each of the 4 destinations we have to adopt the path leading to it not for example finding God by science or stars by God. These paths are parallel not parts of one line.

The greatness of earth is Life. Life is more important than all these colossal stars and astronomical phenomena. What should of our first interest is life and the earth.
