  • Female genital mutilation in Pakistan ???

I always thought that was an African thing. But seems like it happens in
    Pakistan too ?!?!

The deportation of a teenage girl from Sweden back to her homeland has been blocked at the 11th hour by the Swedish Migration Board after the threat of genital mutilation and arranged marriage was factored into her case.

it sound like she made it up to stay in sweden

Scandinavia has strict laws against female circumcision. They can not deport a child who is in danger of such practice. But Pakistan has no such custom. This girl is 17, that is usually done to small girls.

I haven't heard about female circumcision recently in the middle east, but she still shouldn't have to go back. Forced marriage to an old guy is still immoral. If you don't want to go with immorality, at least go with it being against islam. What surah, what ayat and what hadith says it's ok to force your daughter, your sister, your niece or your granddaughter into a forced marriage?
And female circumcision is just animalistic. Why would anyone do that?!

Whats the difference between female and male circumcision? And why is one animalistic while the other is not?

Female circumcision is of two kinds:

Fir'awni circumcision which is an ancient pre-Islamic custom

Sunnah circumcision according to mainly Shafi'i madhab and some other jurists

A fir'awni circumcision is to basically deform and mutilate female genitalia so that she may not enjoy sexual intercourse.

The Sunnah circumcision of females is to remove certain parts on the sides of the female private parts.

There is a hadeeth which Shafi'i and some other scholars use as reference for endorsing circumcision for females.

People deliberately depict all forms of female circumcision as one because they use this to attack Muslims.

The problem is that the prohibited and harmful type of circumcision (fir'awni) is still practiced in Muslim communities. Therefore, it is easy for the enemies of Islam to attack Muslims and depict Islam as a religion hostile to women.

We as Muslims should know the reality of this matter before commenting on it. Because we may say things that are not accurate.

                  Nana,Slightly wrong

                  Let me explain it

The female circumcision is/was done by Muslim not to disable their sexual pleasure but rather to stop female from masterbation.

In muslim society unlike as in the west the female masterbation is not done by penetrational means but rather through the clitoris because since in Muslim society intact hymen is considered the sign of a Non touched women hence in muslim societies those female doing masterbation does it through clitoris rubbing .

Their is no way to completley disable female sexual pleasure alone by circumcision since the nerve ending are spread throughout the vagina upto the G spot.

Clitoris is also called pseudo penis since in male the same clitoris over grow and converts into penis.

So in muslim society the circumcision is done to avoid Female masterbation and is only limited to the removal of Clitoris

Yes the practice of removal of Labia majus might be done aswell since it also has alot of sexual nerve endings

                    This is not our custom.
Barbaric cultural practices predating introduction of islam.

All practices of female circumcision and mutilation are crimes and have no relationship with Islam.

Just like Suicide Bombings are not part of Islam even if some Mullahs from Pakistan and Afghanistan declared it to be allowed.

These Sheikhs and Mullahs are not messengers of Allah Most High, they do not represent anyone but themselves.

Female circumcision is a practise inspired by Sheitan.

And I take this verse from the Holy Qur'an as a proof for my claim :

"I will mislead them, and I will create in them false desires; I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and to deface the (fair) nature created by Allah." Whoever, forsaking Allah, takes satan for a friend, hath of a surety suffered a loss that is manifest.

                      [Quran 4:119]

                      Female circumcision predates Islam.

                      Pre-Islamic Arabia

Before discussing this practice in light of Islamic teachings, it behooves us to consider that the circumcision of girls is a custom that has been practiced since ancient times in parts of Africa, particularly in Egypt, Nubia, Sudan, and their surroundings. The prevalent type of female circumcision practiced in that region is known as Pharaonic circumcision, and it seems that the reason for it was the desire of the men in those societies to weaken the sexual desire of women in order to ensure their chastity.

It is quite possible that this practice spread to neighboring Arab countries from Egypt and practiced on occasion or that Arabs were at least aware of this custom before the advent of Islam, since customs can spread from one society to another. However, I have not come across any verifiable evidence that the Arabs of pre-Islamic times were in the practice of circumcising their daughters. Among them were those who killed their daughters fearing the shame that they brought and had no need for circumcision.

No female circumcision in Saudi Arabia :

For Saudi Arabia, it has long been rumored that female genital mutilation (FGM) is practiced on the Southern region bordering Yemen. Yet, no reliable data exists and reports about its prevalence are inconsistent in terms of where it is practiced, by whom and why. Most reports don’t add up to more than anecdotal evidence, others are driven by interests and thus unreliable. However, there has been at least one study showing that FGM is indeed present – yet, not Saudi women are the victims.

                      The weak hadith :

                      2. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is reported to have passed by a woman performing circumcision on a young girl. He instructed the woman by saying: “Trim, but do not cut into it, for this is brighter for the face (of the girl) and more favorable with the husband.” [Mu`jam al-Tabarânî al-Awsat (2274)]
                      This hadith is weak

Abû Dâwûd [in Sûnan Abî Dâwûd (5271)] declares the hadîth to be defective on account of the narrator Muhammad b. Hassân, saying: “Muhammad b. Hassân is an unknown narrator and this hadîth is weak.”

Ibn `Adiyy and al-Bayhaqî confirm Abû Dâwûd’s judgment that Muhammad b. Hassân is an unknown narrator. `Abd al-Ghanî b. Sa`îd, the author of Îdâh al-Shakk, disagrees, saying: “He is Muhammad b. Sa`îd al-Maslûb.” He goes on to narrate this hadîth from Muhammad b. Sa`îd al-Maslûb in his biographical entry for that narrator.

Even if this hadith were true, all it shows is Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) telling the woman to be moderate in the way she does it and to not cut into it.

Notice how on this map Egypt and ancient Nubia (surrounding Ethiopia) were the places where female circumcision existed before Islam and are now the places where people still do it.

                      Conclusion :

It appears that female circumcision is more a cultural practice than a matter of Islamic teachings. We have seen that the hadîth which refer to the practice are all weak. The presence of that practice in Egypt an Nubia up to this day is just a continuation of a practice that has been around since the time of the Pharaohs. It is often hard for people to give up deeply ingrained customs and cultural practiced. They continue to be passed down from generation to generation.

Another example of the tenacity of custom is the practice among Indian Muslims where the woman pays a dowry to the husband. This is a pre-Islamic Indian custom that Islam declares false. Islam requires the husband to pay a dowry to the wife. Nevertheless, this custom persists among Muslims in both India and Pakistan, even though the history of Islam in India goes back for many long centuries.

Likewise, Islam put an end to many pre-Islamic customs that marginalized women and denied them their rights. It put an end to people condemning each other’s lineages. It put an end to the practice of wailing at a person’s burial. Nonetheless, these practices can still be seen in some Muslim societies and are often regarded by the people of those societies to be part and parcel of Islamic Law.

The Shâfi`î school of law has been the prevalent legal school in Egypt since its formative years. It may be that the scholars of the Shâfi`î school who promoted the view that female circumcision is obligatory had been influenced by the prevailing culture of the region.

Other examples of pagan cultural practises in the muslim world islam should have abolished :

                      - The practise of revenge in Pashtunwali which is the reason why even when invaders leave Afghanistan, Afghans still fight each other.

                      - Honnor killings in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Kurdistan and the burning of the women with acid.

                      - Bacha Bazi which is a Tajik cultural practise where young boys are molested by homosexual grown men.

                      - Smoking hookah and cigarettes which are middle eastern practise widespread among arab countries.

Never heard of such a thing in Pakistan. Might be an isolated incident.

Female circumcision is animalistic because of the reason they do it and because it predates islam, like Al Hanif said. I have not read any hadiths or anything that says that a girl should be circumcised.

Many things that muslims practice are cultural traditions, not Islamic. We have to stop getting the two confused.
