What kind of ignorance? There are different kinds of ignorance related to topics of disbelief and sinning.

Do they believe it to be a Muslim festival? Or are they under the impression that it is a non-religious festival?

Most proponents of celebrating Nawroz I know, are fully aware of its Zoroastrian origins and in fact they consider it to be part of their cultural heritage.

Holding such views reveals lack of understanding of the purpose why Qur'an was sent to mankind. If there was nothing wrong with Zoroastrianism, then the arrival of the last message was unnecessary to Persians, no?

The thing is, the testimony of faith, in Islam is the only door into the fold of Islam. This testimony is subject to conditions. Knowledge of the meaning and the full implication of the testimony is its first condition. Without proper knowledge and understanding of the necessary aspects of the religion, the testimony is invalid.

If a person believes he is a Muslim and finds nothing wrong with preserving and celebrating pagan rituals, then this person obviously never understood Islam to begin with. In such a case, ignorance is no excuse. This type of a man is by definition not a Muslim.

In Islam, accusing a Muslim of being a Kaafir is just as bad as accusing a kaafir of being a Muslim.

no one that i have ever met that celebrates it knows that it is anything besides "our new years."

people are not complex and neither are the thoughts of the masses, afghans don't know the history of nowroz and celebrate it only because there are not many other things to celebrate in their miserable lives.

afghans like anyone else celebrate these dates without knowing the history or tradition behind them. this is ignorance and not an active concious act of kufr.

on the other hand, when people like badlun who are well versed in islam and use this knowledge against islam celebrate this holiday and drink wine with his boyfriend, THAT would be an active act of kufr.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

There are many who fit the description you mentioned. They dont know that it is a religious festival of pagans.

But as I said, the people I know are convinced that it is part of their culture and identity and they reject the prohibition by claiming its a conspiracy to rob them of their culture. Such people are without a doubt, kaafirs.
