"It appears as though our differences apply mainly to religion or the lack of it. As stated from day one this has been my greatest worry about religions. They divide, confuse and lead to conflict. Islam against Christianity, vice-versa, and all of them against Atheism. We can see this trouble brewing in every corner of the world, people are quite willing to blow themselves apart and create mass murder and suffering in the name of religion. It happens daily in Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel and sporadically around other parts of the globe. Nuclear holocaust inspired by religious terrorism is a credible and evident danger. Even here among colleagues we resort to ad-hominems, hyperbole and sarcasm through frustration. The subjects of evolution, intuition and science become battle grounds of reason between rational and irrational thought. The ability to communicate and convince others of our POV is elusive.

Understanding is hindered not only by personality types but mainly through early exposure to fiction taught as facts, mind altering dogma and irrational fear of the unknown. These fixations about things such as heaven and hell lead to a plethora of strange beliefs that simple reasoning cannot overcome as it's now hard wired. Intellectual enquiry has gone out of the window. Religion has taken humanity beyond the tipping point and the future, in my opinion, looks very grim indeed. Only a few years ago we had some nutters fly aircraft into the WTC causing mass murder and chaos, they've done it on the London Underground too, all for the greater glory of their god - a god which has no evidence or proof to speak of.

This is why rationalists and people who value life need to speak up against fundamentalist religion and try to encourage people to see sense. There are loads of people around the world who hold positions of power and authority and also believe in 'the end times'. I don't particularly want these people to be in charge of the world's destiny.

Wouldn't it be better to have love for love's sake? Kindness for the sake of kindness, reason and virtue through understanding? Doing all this as a person and from your own free choice rather than having to do it because someone says it's 'God's command'? The bonus of Humanist Atheism is that rational thought lies at it's heart, the problem with mainstream religions is that they rely on the gospel truth and this can be translated into whatever the believer wants.

This is of course my POV and not a jot of information that has been exchanged here has dented it for me."

Your rationalists killed a million plus in afghanistan, they are killing hundreds of thousands in syria today. Your nuclear holocaust was already realized and implemented by one secular state against another which killed more than muslim extremists would kill at this rate for another thousand years.

Wouldn't it be better to have love for love's sake? Kindness for the sake of kindness, reason and virtue through understanding?
the **** is this? yeah great, lets love each other. first stop invading our nations, killing our people, and suppressing islam in neighborhoods you have no business being in.

what is it with these westerners? they have no idea of the havok they have caused in dar al islam but when muslims fight back, muslims are the extremists and its their religion that teaches them to take no **** that is the problem, not their western imperialism.

let me send millions of jihadists to occupy america and tell you calmly that its your inherent beliefs that are wrong for resisting such a sublime force.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

blaming religion or lack of it has nothing to do with human conflict. If one looks at history, people of both beliefs have lived in peace for centuries. WW2 which was the bloodiest in history was between secular states. Extermination of people was done by secular states ie holocaust, extermination of native americans, etc.

                  Religion is a cop out.

The adjectives "hard", "strong" and "explicit" are basically equivalent here, qualifying the intensity of the core beliefs, as opposed respectively to "soft", weak" and "implicit".

The first "A-" of both "Atheist" & "Agnostic" is a privative suffix ("without-"); each term literally mean "without God" and "without knowledge", respectively.
Within this context, "knowledge" essentially means "knowledge of the existence of God".

                        Therefore:
                        - a "strong" atheist explicitly denies the existence of any deity.
                        - a "strong" agnostic explicitly denies that it can be known if any deity exists at all.
Both are then positive statements of negative facts (the absence of something).

The "weak" forms, as Dawkins rightly pointed out, are in practice "strong" forms that either I) ignore or II) deny the concept as a whole; in other words:
                        - a "weak" atheist is not absolutely sure that no deity exists at all.
                        - a "weak" agnostic is not absolutely sure if the existence of any deity can be known or not.

Naturally, all these categories often overlap, especially the "weak" forms.

All that said, if Atheism is really to be understood here, as for any negative concept we must first understand its positive counterpart.

In other words: what is absent from "atheism" that is present in "theism"?
In the name of God; what is a God?gl

not really, since your argument is that religion is the main motive then why do I buy meat at the local jewish store and why is the Jewish store owner selling it to me. He knows I am Muslim and I know that he is Jewish. Why do we interact peacefully.
