  • Uthman bin Affan

What are your opinions about Caliph Uthman? Before you give your opinions about him, I would prefer the opinions on people who have read several books regarding his years of Khalifah. Was he right to take over during such a critical time of Islamic expansion. Did he steal the leadership of Ali, by denigrating the Banu Hashim who deserved the Khilifah more than him and even Umar and Abu Bakr.

My opinion is that he had no business receiving the title of Holding the caliph. He was weak and corrupt for appointing his clansmen of Umayyah, and appointed his family in positions they had no right receiving. Uthman was a puppet of Marwan, and he should of remained as a scholar. He was very unpopular by the average muslim and wasn't a popular leader That is why even Aisha (a staunch appointment of Ali) did not like him and had numerous diatribe against him. His own cousin Muawiya refused to sent Syrian envoy's to protect him while he was under siege by the ansar.

So, his claim of Caliph was a mistake, and I believe he should not be considered as one of the four "rightly guided caliph."

Your opinions? Just because You read his full Wiki doesnt give you a voice on this issue.

Lets see, uthman dheb nurayn radiallahu anhu accepted islam, gave all his wealth away to support the call to La illaha il Allah Muhammadan Rasool Allah, faught at Badr, married with two of Prophet Muhammad sal allahu alayhi wasalam and he was from the 10 with glad tidings for Jannah.

Wrong, I said please anyone who only has a Wikipedia knowledge of Uthman to not respond.

Uthman did not fight in the Battle of Badr because his wife (the Prophet's daughter was sick)

Uthman's Umayyad family became so rich during his reign that their was a large gap between the average Muslim and the Umayyads.

Aisha used to refer to him as "dotard."

Had no right to become Caliph and was from the list of name Umar said who should become caliph after him. Pretty much was used so Ali Ibn Abi Talib wouldn't become a Khlifah.

Gave his family power and decrease the influence of Banu Hashim. Responsible for the rise of Muawiya and Yazid, who killed the grandsons of the Prophet, Hassan and Hussein

Uthman refused to order the lashing of a relative who was a violent drunk in Damascus. Yet, even Umar carried out lashes to his own son for the same behavior.

So, back to my original post. Anyone here who can discuss Uthman's reign who has read at least 4 books on the matter?

Now I am a Shia because I tell the truth of the robbery of Abu Turab by the Ummayads.

In Muhammad (PBUH) death bed he asked for a pen and paper so he could record his will was he said would help the Muslims after his death. Ali went to fetch the pen and paper while Abu Bakr and Umar was adamant for him not to record it. Perhaps, they knew that Muhammad (pbuh) was going to name Ali as his predecesoor. Abu Bakr and Umar Said "the Quran was enough for us." but what happened after the Prophet passed? Schisms and wars.

Go learn the history of Muslims before responding. Does anybody know about the Saqifa incident? Does anybody know that Umar barged into Ali's house to force him to pronounce Abu Bakr as caliph? Umar slammed open the door causing Fatimah a miscarriage. Im not slamming anyone's characters, it's all the truth.

Does anybody here even know about the 60 years of events after the Prophet? Battle of Al-Jamal, battle of Siffin. The kharijits, the poisoning of Hassan by Muawiya through his own wife. Battle of Karbala

Where I'm I lying, lol. Please debunk me if I am not telling the truth. Until then, stop trolling my thread.

Abu Bakr and Umar bin Al-Khattab were great caliphs btw.

So like I said, anybody with a sufficient education about early Muslim history want to discuss this issue.

Muhammad Ibn Abi Bakr (Abu Bakr's son) was one of the three assailants who murdered Uthman.

So I'm guessing no one here knows who Uthman bin Affan is except the fact that he was the third Caliph.

I dont think this thread is being fair to such a great person in our Caliphate's early history:

                          1. Empirically, I hardly think the Prophet would have, in his wisdom, given two of his daughters to someone he thought was treacherous.

                          2. The mentions you make of Aisha saying various things about Uthman dont necessarily match the historical record. After all, Aisha, Abdullah ibn Zubayr, and a third whose name I forget forged a triumveret to seek justice for Uthman.

                          3. Uthman's defense of the Quran was a massive accomplishment. He was a part of phase three of the holy scriptures remarkable preservation. Phase 1 of course was that of the Prophet himself having it recorded and ordered, phase two was Abu Bak, Umar, and Bin Thabit's efforts, and phase 3 was Uthman disseminating the Holy Book empire wide.

Once again, empirically, it makes little sense that a person obsessed with nepotism for the wrong reasons would seek to preserve the same text that decries the lack of meritocracy and, if followed accurately, the safegaurd of it.

                            1) Uthman's tribe became super wealthy during his Khilifah, and appointed his family to high positions throughout his empire to people who didn't deserve it. Muhammad in his lifetime banned Marwan I (Uthman's relative) from Medina but Uthman overturned this ruling and even made him his secretary. Uthman refused to punish his relative when he was caught drunk in the streets. When Umar was a caliph he flogged his own son for a lesson to others that no one is save when they break the rules.

                            2) it is actually historically written that Aisha was against his Caliph as he mostly helped his tribe more than the average Muslim. Your think of Zubayr, not his son Abdullah Ibn Zubayr. The third person your thinking of is Talha. The latter two first pledged allegiance to Ali than turned their back on him to instigate Aisha to declare war on Ali with his followers leading to the battle of Al Jamal.

                            3) no one is denying that Uthman helped organize the Quran to what it is know.

Uthman was highly disliked that is why during his final days the people of Medina besieged his house protesting him to abdicate the Khilifah.
