  • Charles Dirac on religion

Do you agree with what Dirac said below?
I cannot understand why we idle discussing religion. If we are honest—and scientists have to be—we must admit that religion is a jumble of false assertions, with no basis in reality. The very idea of God is a product of the human imagination. It is quite understandable why primitive people, who were so much more exposed to the overpowering forces of nature than we are today, should have personified these forces in fear and trembling. But nowadays, when we understand so many natural processes, we have no need for such solutions. I can't for the life of me see how the postulate of an Almighty God helps us in any way. What I do see is that this assumption leads to such unproductive questions as why God allows so much misery and injustice, the exploitation of the poor by the rich and all the other horrors He might have prevented. If religion is still being taught, it is by no means because its ideas still convince us, but simply because some of us want to keep the lower classes quiet. Quiet people are much easier to govern than clamorous and dissatisfied ones. They are also much easier to exploit. Religion is a kind of opium that allows a nation to lull itself into wishful dreams and so forget the injustices that are being perpetrated against the people. Hence the close alliance between those two great political forces, the State and the Church. Both need the illusion that a kindly God rewards—in heaven if not on earth—all those who have not risen up against injustice, who have done their duty quietly and uncomplainingly. That is precisely why the honest assertion that God is a mere product of the human imagination is branded as the worst of all mortal sins.

It seems to be one of the fundamental features of nature that fundamental physical laws are described in terms of a mathematical theory of great beauty and power, needing quite a high standard of mathematics for one to understand it. You may wonder: Why is nature constructed along these lines? One can only answer that our present knowledge seems to show that nature is so constructed. We simply have to accept it. One could perhaps describe the situation by saying that God is a mathematician of a very high order, and He used very advanced mathematics in constructing the universe. Our feeble attempts at mathematics enable us to understand a bit of the universe, and as we proceed to develop higher and higher mathematics we can hope to understand the universe better.

He has some meritable points; Our conventional understanding of religion is obsolete and our definitions of the Nature of God or what God entails are flawed.

We need to have a more analytical approach

This is exactly what;s wrong with backwards ****** thinking., so childish, egotistical and insecure. They think the suffering of vulnerable human beings is worth less than whether or not a Higher Being has its ego stroked as i Supreme being Like a God would need their ego stroked or would be affected by not being acknowledged.

In reality when people like this parasite speak about higher power they just mean an extension of their OWN frail and wounded egoes Their entire self esteem and identity rests on a fulcrum of Things they claim Belief in and if those beliefs are not accepted it is a strike against their self worth ...and thus the lives of children are trivial when it comes to their Twisted Idol of a Higher being they made to personify themselves.

Talk about waste of sperm; Any fool who says a person who kills 50,000 children is better because he thinks God is real deserves to get taken out by a sniper bullet. What a ****bag.

Your wires are crossed; this is exactly why drug user is a sign of mental weakness

It's really a no brainer here. When people deny God, nothing happens to God, they're neither hurt nor iare they affected in anyway They still remain God, impervious and invincible. Murdeer destroys lives, causes so much turmoil and devastation and robs people of the very thing that is precious to them; their right to live.

It's pretty clear which one is worse here; How frequent one happens is not a measure of how worse it is. And being that there are millions of people who deny God these days. that;s frequent too, so by your logic it's no big deal. Basically you attribute anything that benefits humankind and their welfare and well being as "serving" the Whiteman. That just means you secretly believe White people are superior to you. If you want to see pleasing whites , you're doing it right there. This is why your whole argument just backfires due to its retardedness and logical error

I think what Dirac said is the same thing that Richard Dawkins, Lawrence Krauss and the rest of these atheists say - nothing new but the same regurgitated assumptions that have been responded to over and over again but written in another format, I wonder why Dirac has not mentioned anything about how much DEATH & DESTRUCTION has occurred DIRECTLY from 'god-less' people, when he speaks about the misery and injustice that has stemmed from so call 'godly' people. Painting a picture that the world without religion would be a better place is insulting our intelligence of past events in history and the present situation.

If i'm someone that views the origins of the universe from a scientific and logical perspective and I base my assumptions on mathematics then I have no choice but to take into consideration the chance of 'possibility', the second I dismiss the chance of possibility of a supreme creator I go against my own dogma of rationalization and logic because I dismiss probability, i automatically no longer follow science & mathematics because I follow my own 'faith' instead that god doesn't exist and it makes me no different to someone that has 'faith' that god does infact exist.

these people think that the more advancements in science and technology are achieved means a bigger gap is going to be asserted between science and the existence of Allah, however the more advancements of technology and new discoveries being found the more it removes the doubt that the universe could be made WITHOUT a supreme creator and designer. Allah says himself to the nearest meaning "look at the universe, for there are signs that ye may reflect".

All the problems will be resolved if we simply admit that science, philosophy intuition and religion have their own spheres of influence. There can be God, science , intuition and reason at the same time.

Science is for matter, senses, observation, nature, experiment. Philosophy is for reason, intellect, search of ultimate reality thru rational methods.

Religion is based on revelation and concerned with beliefs, worship, ethics, super natural phenomena like God, angels, heavens, hell, day of judgement etc and about holy books, apostles, prophets, saints. Intuition is direct knowledge and areas like spiritualism, mysticism, para psychology, mismirism, hypnotism , telepathy even magic, miracles etc can be dedicated to it.

If we accept this variety of approaches then there will be no clash. We can worship a God and at the same time can be a scientist, have rational bent of mind and some time having mystical experiences. This will make life beautiful. I am trying to practice this approach and am having a blessed happy and successful life.

Belief/Faith and Science is all the same, I really dont understand why humans have made these two as opposites of each other.
