    Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Dear sister, the above is called Surah Al-Fatihah. It has many other names. We will get to them in due time.

This Surah is the whole of the Quran.
The rest of the Holy Quran, the other 113 chapters are a commentary of these 7 verses.

Find yourself a translation and keep reciting this Surah and keep reading its translation and reflect upon it.

This short chapter will take us between 6-12 months. Just be patient.

Islam will prevail, a promise made by the Creator of this universe:

[61:8] They desire to extinguish the light of Allah with the breath of their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, even if the disbelievers hate it.

[61:9] He it is Who has sent His Messenger with the guidance and the Religion of truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religions, even if those who associate partners with God hate it.

[1:1] In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.
[1:2] All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds,
    [1:3] The Gracious, the Merciful,
[1:4] Master of the Day of Judgment.
[1:5] Thee alone do we worship and Thee alone do we implore for help.
[1:6] Guide us in the right path —
[1:7] The path of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy blessings, those who have not incurred Thy displeasure, and those who have not gone astray.

This chapter, dear sister, was revealed completely in Mecca and then was revealed again in Medina. It formed the intricate part of the Islamic prayer from the beginning.

In 15:87 the greatness of this chapter has been noted by Allah Ta'ala:

          وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَاكَ سَبْعًا مِّنَ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنَ الْعَظِيمَ

[15:87] And We have, indeed, given thee the seven oft-repeated verses, and the Great Qur’an.

Here Allah is saying that Surah Fatihah is "
the seven oft-repeated verses." It is also the "Great Quran."

Here we have two more names for Surah Fatihah:

          1. Al-Sab' al-Mathaani (the seven oft-repeated verses)
          2. Al-Quran Al-Azim (the Great Quran)

Surah Fatihah is the simpler version of Fatihatul Kitab (the Opening Chapter of the Book). Its simple versions are Surah Al-Fatihah or Al-Fatihah.

Now we have three names for this chapter:

            1. Fatihatul Kitab (the Opening Chapter of the Book)
            2. Al-Sab' al-Mathaani (the seven oft-repeated verses)
            3. Al-Quran Al-Azim (the Great Quran)

Please remember that these names are crucial when it comes to understanding the rest of the Holy Quran.

                1. Fatihatul Kitab (the Opening Chapter of the Book)

(This implies that the chapter is to be placed in the beginning of the Quran and that it serves as a key to its meaning)
                1. Al-Sab' al-Mathaani (the seven oft-repeated verses)

(Signifies that the seven short verses of the chapter virtually answer all the spiritual needs of man. It also signifies that the chapter must be repeated in every rak'at of Prayer)
                1. Al-Quran Al-Azim (the Great Quran)

(Signifies that although the chapter is known as the Ummul Kitab and Ummul Quran, it is nevertheless a part of the Quran and not separate from it, as has been supposed by some.)
                1. Al-Salat (the Prayer)

(Signifies that the chapter forms a perfect prayer and is an integral part of the institutional Prayer of Islam.)
                1. Al-Hamd (the Praise)

(Signifies that the chapter brings to light the lofty purpose of man's creation and teaches that the relation of God to man is one of grace and mercy.)
                1. Ummul Quran (Mother of the Quran)

(Signifies that the chapter contains the essence of the whole of the Quran, providing man in a nutshell with all the knowledge that has a bearing on his moral and spiritual welfare.)
                1. Ummul Kitab (Mother of the Book)

(Signifies that the prayer contained in the chapter has been the cause of the revelation of the Quranic dispensation)
                1. Al-Shifa (the Cure)

(Signifies that it provides remedy for all doubts and misgivings.)
                1. Al-Ruqya (the Charm)

(Signifies that the chapter is not only a prayer to ward off disease but also provides protection against Satan and his followers, and strengthens the heart of man against them.)
                1. Al Kanz (the Treasure)

(Signifies that the chapter is an illimitable treasure of knowledge)

                      Dear nazia,

Before I go into the translation and commentary of this beautiful surah, I want to talk about this surah being mentioned in the New Testament.
Islam will prevail, a promise made by the Creator of this universe:

                          In Revelations 10:1-4

1Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. 2He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, 3and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke. 4And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, "Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down."
According to my notes, the word for 'open' in Hebrew is: fatoah. Notice the similarity in Arabic: fatihah.

The seven thunders which are mentioned here are referring to the seven verses of this chapter.

I will, Insha Allah, in due time go over the complete commentary of these verses of the Holy Bible. This should suffice, for now, to show the greatness of the Holy Quran: it is confined to only seven verses--the rest of the 113 chapters are a commentary of these seven verses. AMAZING!

There is one theme you will continue to hear from me: The whole of the Holy Quran is Surah Al-Fatihah. Please always keep this mind. If you ever get stuck in anything, and I mean anything, refer to these seven verses. If you reflect enough you will come to the answer you are looking for. Insha Allah, once we go over the translation and commentary, it will really help to overcome ANYTHING in life--from husband to work to cooking to leisure to anything.

                            No exaggeration.

That leads me naturally to the next preamble topic: the subject matters of this chapters.
