When I was in America, I would get a lot of youths in the hood that come up to me asking me to turn them Muslim, lol. I think the hood has a messed up misconception about Islam, especially when I got guys coming up to me asking to be put on like it's a gang or coming to me thinking this is some type of black pride thing or if they join they going to get connects to ak47'S and grenades from Iraq, Afghanistan and what not. I'm being real I've seen it all.
A lot of people are confused in the American ghettoes about what Al Islam really is. We have Islam here but real Muslims are much less in numbers than NOI, NGE, MST, Nuwaubians and such. These groups may have some positive teachings to uplift the community but due to their doctrines full of shirk they are not looked at as real Muslims.
Eventually some members of those groups become Sunni or Sufi and even a few Shia.
Most Muslims ive seen at Masjids and such in the US hoods (East and Midwest) are Black, Puerto Rican, Arab, South Asian and few others.
There also People organizations like the Vice Lords (to an extent) and BPS who are Muslim.
