    that brought back memories.
i lived in the town of bodh gaya for about 6 months. amazing place.
i arrived for a ten day teaching by the dalai lama and the town was full of tibetans from all over. no way near as many as in this film, though.
that river bed was completely dry, when i was there.

i studied tibetan buddhism for a while but it is complex in that i found it to be very ritualistic and uses visualizations and symbolism in their meditations.
those people doing the prostrations for thousands of miles also have to count each one, say, om mani padme hum and do a visualization. it might have to be of their guru, other lamas, their family, goddesses, and even a visualization of the whole of the human race, doing the prostration with them. their guru/teacher/high lama, gives them a certain amount to do, and it can be in the thousands.
