      Couldn't ? I'm intrigued.

One of my Hindu friends is very close to Sufism.

I have been invited to a zikr (?) twice. Once in Turkey and it was peaceful and uplifting. There was perhaps something staged about the music and the movements maybe. The time I went to see a dervish in Pakistan, it was a shaggy/bedraggled malang who looked like he and his audience had taken drugs. The spinning ended up with him having something like a fit on the floor. Way out of my understanding, I confess.

Perhaps Toramana can offer some take on this.

As for atheists. They can be just as hard nosed and intolerant as the religions they reject.

Why not??? He is the promoter of knowledge as he claims then why not share this knowledge with us ? Why to hide it ?

according to what i have been reading, atheism should be a form of mental illness...
in order to be considered a healthy being, you have to be well in seven aspects of wellness
. one of those dimensions is defined as spiritual well being. and spiritual well being is being in peace with the belief of a power higher than one's self.. which concludes the purpose of life. we all know that they don't believe in that.

anyone seen this documentary? this guy went to the amazon as a christian preacher and came back out, an atheist after spending years with this interesting tribe.

he admits that to brainwash people to christianity, he would have to convince them first, that their beliefs are wrong.
same like the atheists are trying to do, to those who believe in a god.
i can't access the whole doco from australia.

Sufism is not only the common prayers in different places (sometimes even in private houses). There are many documentaries abou these practices among male and female Sufis.
But Sufism is also a way of internal self-improvement, achieving the next steps of initiation under the guidance of master. Such practices are are hidden from outsiders. This is what I know from a Sufi.

Why people like to live under labels they do not correspond themselves?
There is so much interest of people to proclaim to be something or to categorize other people....but nobody thinks himself to fit on what he thinks he should be or doesn't think if others to fit in what he likes them to fit.

This kind of behaviour is one of disbelievers at all, because somebody who believes never will say "belief=label" or "you are what you proclaim to be".
I can even proclaim to be the most rightfull; noble hearted, believing man, the essence of trouth....
But it is enough that somebody knows me better to say that it is not true...

                              Ես ծովակ եմ առանց կարապ,
                              Իմ էություն, ե՛տ արի, ե՛տ:

                              Ես անտառ եմ առանց եղնիկ
                              Իմ վեհություն, ե՛տ արի, ե՛տ:

toramana is as sufi as salman rushdie.

once toramana claimed to be a sufi from Naqshbandia.
here is the most prominent Naqshbandi Mawlana , he is against Toramana
