  • What is Rooh?

In our thread, 'Do Jinnat exist,' many of the people who were supporting the idea that the jinns existed could give only one reason for their existence, that they existed but scinece and human beings were not able to see them the same way they were not able to find Rooh (روح). I have been hearing the term Rooh in a lot of discussions and many people bring it as their only reason for every discussion where logic is used. I have a question for these people.

What is Rooh? How do you describe it? What is its function and purpose? How it works? And what is your reason for that?

Please don't bring lot of quoted from sacred books which mention rooh or say that rooh exists. Here the discussion is not if it exists or not, the question is:

What is Rooh? How do you describe it? What is its function and purpose? How it works? And what is your reason for that?

      What is Rooh?
Rooh was one of the abstract concepts of the past. When the causes of life and death were not known, they were attributed to the existence of a formless being called a soul that left the body at a point in time, thereby causing death.

      How do you describe it?
Since the existence of souls could never be proven, they were said to be invisible. Nice logic, no?

What is its function and purpose?
The soul, apart from making a body alive, also gave it character and personality. All of this was believed before it was discovered that feelings are actually made in the brain and caused by other parts of the body or the external environment.

      How it works?

And what is your reason for that?

i can wind up the discussion, with the words:
Quran says, They ask you about rooh, oh Prophet say, that rooh is the order of the Raab (Allah).
No need to proceed the discussion. Otherwise you all will be declared Kaafir and so you claimed once to be muslims, so you will be murtad, and therefore you are obliged to be killed (wajibul-qatal) so I will report you all to the Mullahs, and they can announce their punishment and you will meet your Allah and will know the rooh and its absence soon.
So no more discussion on the topic.

Thanks. If Rooh is the same as Jinns then, as logic demands, the Little Red Riding Hood is the same as Roohs and Ariel the mermaid is the same as Jinns and therefore, they're all one. Isn't it fascinating?

Don't you see, hairan.? They're making you believe all sorts of stuff without showing you a shred of evidence. Then the same people give you the concept of faith and say that if you lose it, you're lost. Remember, the onus or the burden of evidence rests upon the person making the claims.

So moderator is requested to lock the thread as no more discussion is needed on the topic.
Mullahs will speak loud that no one hears what is happening.
                Disciplined, are you disciplined yourself?

Gosh this lot has all their brain cells totally dried up. Okay Rooh is "min amri rabbi" but what WTH is "amray rabbi"?

No wonder the religeous rag tag deserves to be a backward mob of clowns.

so mohsina, not good to talk about amr-e-Rabbi. see I am seeing sangar with sharp knife declaring you kafir. ok. you should lock your brain, not to think on such issues. ok
Allah de da Mullah de shar na osata.
I am recalling the Noor Muhammad Tarakai Novel, Sangsar, where a guy is stoned by Mullahs. May be Sangar or his father or grandfather will have done it. Mullahs are the same everywhere.

                        Salaamuna,

From our (Muslims) viewpoint, Rooh/Arwaa is the eternal part of humans which lives on after a person’s death. God breathed His Arwaa into Adam a.s. after he was created. However Arwaa is not observed critically from a purely scientific viewpoint yet.

From nonbelievers viewpoint, nonbelievers have no need to believe in supernatural Arwaa/Ruh.

Its literal definition is soul or spirit and its plural is arwah. The term has appeared in over twelve places in the Quran and has been described using various verbs and adjectives such as taking (in death and sleep), a grasping soul, a shrouded soul and the like. A Muslim believes in these attributes and knows that the soul is not like the body. It is something that, like everything else, has been created by Allah. And knowledge of its essence lies exclusively with Allah. As Erlangner said, Allah says in Surah Isra: And they ask you (O Muhammad) concerning the rooh. Say: The rooh is one of the things, the knowledge of which is only with my Lord. And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been given only a little. And the shaan-e-nuzool of this Ayah has been discussed in Sahih Hadeeths. This does not mean that we should not discuss its existence or interpret the Ayahs and Hadeeths to our advantage. Rather, like we have been told in Surah Kahf to not debate about that which we are unaware of (the number of the people of the Cave), similarly, the command here is the same. There is no harm in explaining and interpreting the Ayaat in which this term has been revealed or understanding the context in which it has been revealed (and clarified in Ahadeeth). Of course, as some members are doing, sarcasm and humour is the last thing that should be injected into discussions of such sensitive nature. I am hopeful to see more supportive and useful posts.

From you words and way of description, I get the distinct feeling you have been "processed" before!!!

A few Ayahs related to the topic:

It is He Who takes your souls by night
                              ( سورة الأنعام , Al-Anaam, Chapter #6, Verse #60)

He is the Irresistible, (Supreme) over His slaves, and He sends guardians (angels guarding and writing all of one's good and bad deeds) over you, until when death approaches one of you, Our Messengers (angel of death and his assistants) take his soul, and they never neglect their duty.
                              ( سورة الأنعام , Al-Anaam, Chapter #6, Verse #61)

And if you could but see when the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers) are in the agonies of death, while the angels are stretching forth their hands (saying): "Deliver your souls! This day you shall be recompensed with the torment of degradation because of what you used to utter against Allah other than the truth.
                              ( سورة الأنعام , Al-Anaam, Chapter #6, Verse #93)

For such their appointed portion (good things of this worldly life and their period of stay therein) will reach them from the Book (of Decrees) until when Our Messengers (the angel of death and his assistants) come to them to take their souls, they (the angels) will say: "Where are those whom you used to invoke and worship besides Allah,"
                              ( سورة الأعراف , Al-Araf, Chapter #7, Verse #37)

And if you could see when the angels take away the souls of those who disbelieve (at death); they smite their faces and their backs, (saying): "Taste the punishment of the blazing Fire."
                              ( سورة الأنفال , Al-Anfal, Chapter #8, Verse #50)

"So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him."
                              ( سورة الحجر , Al-Hijr, Chapter #15, Verse #29)

Then He fashioned him in due proportion, and breathed into him the soul (created by Allah for that person); and He gave you hearing (ears), sight (eyes) and hearts. Little is the thanks you give!
                              ( سورة السجدة , As-Sajda, Chapter #32, Verse #9)

Say: "The angel of death, who is set over you, will take your souls.
                              ( سورة السجدة , As-Sajda, Chapter #32, Verse #11)

It is Allah Who takes away the souls at the time of their death, and those that die not during their sleep. He keeps those (souls) for which He has ordained death and sends the rest for a term appointed. Verily, in this are signs for a people who think deeply.
                              ( سورة الزمر , Az-Zumar, Chapter #39, Verse #42)

Then how (will it be) when the angels will take their souls at death, smiting their faces and their backs?
                              ( سورة محمد , Muhammad, Chapter #47, Verse #27)

Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of a dying person) reaches the throat?
                              ( سورة الواقعة , Al-Waqia, Chapter #56, Verse #83)

Nay, when (the soul) reaches to the collar bone (i.e. up to the throat in its exit),
                              ( سورة القيامة , Al-Qiyama, Chapter #75, Verse #26)

y those (angels) who pull out (the souls of the disbelievers and the wicked) with great violence.
                              ( سورة النازعات , An-Naziat, Chapter #79, Verse #1)

By those (angels) who gently take out (the souls of the believers).
                              ( سورة النازعات , An-Naziat, Chapter #79, Verse #2)
