  • Toronto Hindu group plans screening of Innocence of Muslims

TORONTO - Plans to screen a controversial film about the Prophet Mohammed in Toronto may come undone by the simple lack of a theatre willing to host the film that has sparked deadly protests in the Middle East.

The hour-long Innocence of Muslims is being aired by the Canadian Hindu Advocacy in Toronto later this month at an undisclosed location, organizers said.

Group spokesman Ron Banerjee said about 200 people are expected for the screening. He said they will have to undergo heavy security, including metal detectors.

The film has been linked to protests in Egypt, Yemen and Libya, where the U.S. embassy in Benghazi was stormed and the ambassador and three other Americans killed. However, later reports suggest that attack was planned before the protests.

“A lot of people want to see this film,” Banerjee said on Friday. “It will be a private showing and filmgoers will be frisked and have to go through a metal detector.”

Banerjee said organizers of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) have refused to show the film, which depicts Mohammed as a womanizer and a madman.

Banerjee said venues in Toronto are reluctant to allow the film to be shown on their premises fearing a backlash by radical Muslims.

“We are looking at showing the film at a Hindu temple,” Banerjee said. “Hindus are furious that people are being killed over this film.”

Banerjee said copies of the film have been withdrawn from circulation but are “available privately.”

Parts of the film are still available on the Internet.

He said viewers will have to book a seat to see the film and undergo searches.

Snippets from other movies that are offensive to Christians and Hindus will also be shown, Banerjee said.

“In Canada, we have tolerance and diversity and they (Muslims) are simply going to have to tolerate diverse viewpoints and opinions without rioting,” he said, adding that he is not concerned about a backlash.

The film is marred in controversy at home, too. Its actors claim they were misled about what kind of movie they were making, and that the anti-Muslim dialogue was dubbed in later. The filmmaker, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, is a convicted fraudster and meth manufacturer in California, who used the pseudonym Sam Bacile and told reporters he was Israeli.

Lol---as if West-Muslim conflict were not enough, now Hindus are also jumping into the fray. I don't think this would be a wise decision by Hindus. Putting the controversy surrounding religious figures of a community aside, such figures usually symbolize the identity of the community and an attack on such figures is considered an attack on the identity of the community.

For example, how much Chinese might criticize the character or role of Confucius or Mao, an attack on them (an that also a non-academic and propaganda type) by foreigners would not be taken lightly by Chinese. In fact, such an attack would be considered an attack on Chinese identity.

these stupid hindus don't have access to youtube that they have to make an event out of the insult to muslims? pathetic people.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

This is a extremist hindu group. It is small a hindu group, basically a international wing of the extremist (RSS) in India responsible for the Gujarat killings. Some of them have moved abroad to places like Canada to promote their anti muslim and even anti sikh agenda.

A couple of days back I posted some videos about the condition of Dalits and Dedasis in one of the forums here with no-ill intentions whatsoever. I have great regard for India and Hindu Civilization and want to be-friend Hindus and visit India and would not judge Indian Civilization or Hindu religion on the basis of just one instance. There are much more to India and Hindu religion than this one aspect ---of much value that I have great regard for.

The next day that I posted the documentaries I received a pm from a unanimous Hindu/Indian member of this forum blaming me that I am stereotyping / ridiculing Hindu religion. As I said above, I had not that intention in mind and was just shocked by the content of the documentary and the information it provided about caste system in India about which I had heard but didn't know the detail.

It is unfortunate that every religion, civilization, or culture wants to hide the problematic aspects of its fabric and to be presented in good light---But wants other civilization to be presented in bad light or in an inferior status. There is no objectivity whatsoever.

Nevertheless, I will request my Hindu/Indian friends not to do such thing. Both Indians/Hindus and Muslims are immigrants and tomorrow if the international situation changed, Indians may be under scrutiny---chickens come home to roast, they say.

Yes, chickens do come home to roost. But observe here the unfolding in the open of the alliance between Hinduism and WCC (Western Christian Civilization) in an effort to wipe out Islam and the Muslims. It is with the same strategy of allying with Hindus against the Muslim ruling class of SA that WCC was able to enter into and eventually grab power over SA.

Some obscure group decides to screen a third class "film", and it becomes a conspiracy by cunning, evil Hindooos to wipe out pious momins.

OH BTW, Tormana most of the documentaries films about Dalit atrocities on youtube are made by propaganda groups. I ain't saying that there is no discrimination or atrocities. There are. But the best propaganda twists truths to convey certain distorted message. Some inconvenient truths are also hidden. For example, today India's law and order machinery [Police, paramilitary, intelligence] is controlled by a Dalit. Speaker of Indian Parliament is a Dalit lady. Until last year, the biggest state in India [UP, whose population is more than Pakistan] was ruled by a Dalit lady. Dalit parties totally dominate the political space in Tamilnadu. Google Sushil Kumar Shinde, Meira Kumari, Mayawati and DMK/AIDMK for details.

So Dalits don't need anybody to "rescue" them.

Let's be fair and even handed

yes there are probably a bunch of Uncle Tom Hindus who see this as some convenient opportunity to advance their community interests by sycophatnism towards the ferangi

This how ever does not represent Hindus as a collective

These Hindus are like the Neo-Cons of India or the Wahhabis of Afghanistan, they're a fringe group.
