  • The Battle of Badr

The first battle between the believers of truth (Islam) and the forces of evil was fought on the battle field of Badar, 60 miles from Madinah towards Makkah.

On one side stood a small group of 313 men of whom merely 60 of them wore armour, while facing them was arranged an army of one thousand warriors well armed and equipped.

The believers had the strength of their Faith in Allah and His Prophe
t (Peace Be Upon Him). They knew that Truth must prevail and falsehood must be destroyed. Thus it was this very Faith which brought about the Miracle and Truth did triumph.

The people of Makkah continued their attempts to destroy Islam. They continued to harass the Muslims who remained in Makkah and also confiscated their properties and belongings. Abu Jahl, the leader of the Makkah's people, even sent a letter to the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) threatening him of the attack by his army. It was in response to such aggression that Almighty Allah gave the permission to fight the unbelievers of Makkah. He said:

Permission to fight (against disbelievers) is given to those (believers) who are fought against, because they have been wronged, and surely, Allah is able to give them (believers) victory. Those who have been expelled from their homes unjustly only because they said: "Our Lord is Allah.".......
    [Surah Al-Hajj: 39-40]

Prayer of the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) before the beginning of the Battle when He stood up supplicating his Lord:
God this is Quraish. It has come with all its arrogance and boastfulness, trying to discredit Thy Apostle. God, I ask Thee to humiliate them tomorrow. God, if this Muslim band will perish today, Thou shall not be worshiped.

In the second year of the migration (hijra) 17th of Ramadan, the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) with about 300 ill-equipped Muslims confronted a well-equipped Makkah's force of about 1000 soldiers. Though outnumbered, the Muslims were able to defeat the unbelievers in their first armed encounter with the enemy.

The Messenger of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him) took a handful of gravel when the battle was extremely heated. He threw it at the faces of the pagans saying " May Your faces be disfigured. God, terrify their hearts and invalidated their feet. " The pagans ran away, turning their faces to no one.

The Muslims went on killing them and taking prisoners. 70 pagans met their death, and the Muslims took from them 70 prisoners. History preserved in its records only fifth of the names out of the 70 pagan loses. Twenty or twenty two of them died at Ali's hand.

This battle laid the foundation of the Islamic State and made out of the Muslims a force to be reckoned with by the dwellers of the Arabic Peninsula.
Bismillah, alhamdulillah, all praises due to Allah and may Allah increase the honor of Prophet Muhammad and protect our nation from any harm.

That's a nice prayer Afgun has at the end, and Friend has good signatures too.

I looked at this thread because I wanted to refresh my memory about this
      very battle.

Wasn't THIS the Battle where Allah [swt] sent -- wasn't it 300 Angels -- to

help the earliest Muslims defeat the forces of darkness ??

Right. That's it, 1,000. Pretty wonderful help for the Muslim army
as well as inspiration for all future history.

Thank you, Friend. I knew something was wrong with that estimate !
