  • Interest (Riba)?

I probably already asked this, but let me ask again because it has been really bugging me. In the modern world, it is almost impossible to escape interest (Riba), every thing around you is some how connected to Interest. Even In Makkah people are using credit cards. The only way to escape Interest is if you live in a cave or something. So my question is, isn;t interest (riba) one of the major sins in Islam? how come muslims pay and consume interest(riba) around the world? even if it is in small amounts

^ There is some thing really fundamentally flawed here, I mean we talk about things like Hijab or Beard all the time, but hardly any one mentions this major major sin. Is is it because no one can do any thing about it? and if so, are 90% of the muslims doomed?

Exactly Karachi. Riba is a major sin.

If we understood the impact of Riba then we can begin to sensibly understand a good number of reasons why Muslims are at war and/easily exploited.

I do believe that Muslims fall into a pattern of being distracted time and again with other less priority issues such as length of beards and arguments over the whether cola is haraam or halal. The attention paid to the recent thread being an example.

^ true, one of the problem though is that it is such a huge issue that people dont want to deal with it, there is almost no escape from interest because it is a thing placed there by the governments themselves

Just focus on yourself and understand how although 90% Muslims so you say are indulging in this sin, you don't have to. I agree the key to tackling it is talking openly about it and educating one another.

because our economical system is based on interessts and leverage , you can not escape it 100% , but you can avoid it , that means live by your standards , and try not to live above you income .

in generall its a temptation , most people get in debt , because they want to have more material wealth or are focused on material things .

other people are so poor that they can not bare the minimum to make a living and are forced to taking loans over loans and pay interessts .

so its a very complex and difficult topic .

one should not confuse , exploitation with the access to lending and getting liquidity .

Just focus on yourself: It's a complete no brainer when it comes to minor individual matters that do not immediately affect the rest of society, e.g. beards and drinking cola etc. And yet we pour energy and resources into things like dress/beard police and committees sitting around discussing whether cola is haraam or if we should stop eating butter because it comes from Denmark whose only other claim to fame is cartoon bombs.

            and yet

90% Muslims so you say are indulging in this sin: Why doesn't the Ulemah prioritise this issue? Europe is not alone in being a slave to American debt; China is now in a position to downgrade the US's credit ranking. And as for the Muslim world - they owe the rest of everybody else whatever they've got left. You might want to upgrade your 90% figure. Allah knows best of course.

It is the simplest of Islamic principles that would be a key solution to ending the over dependent situation that Muslims find themselves in. Whether we are caught up by choice or not, being silent on the effects of Riba when it affects us all on a global scale, is no longer a private religious matter.

The contemporary equation has been made to look something like Money = Power = Money. Why are the
            Mullahs quiet?

Your question about why Ulemas are not talking about this topic. Well they do but this issue is directly related to the state matters. You have to change the whole system for that. Many scholars have written books on this and have given solutions and alternative ways and how to avoid interest based economy but unless you have a proper Islamic govt you can't handle it properly.

^True to a point, though a groundswell of public opinion needs to be created around the issue. The Ulemah can and does engage in technology and the media to get its message out, but it appears to be selective in the messages that it chooses.

Speaking only anecdotally and without access to figures, there are probably more notes being passed around the internet pitifying Muslim suffering and glorifying short-term violent reactions than sound arguments for seriously dismantling all forms of Riba - which is often the precursor to our suffering.

your comments on here reminds me of that story.
there was Qateey in this country and there was no bread to eat.
the people went to the princess and told her "dodey neshtha, ghanem neshatha Qateey da,se wekoo" the princess replied "kolchey waley nekhorey?"

so from on side when AFG/muslim lands are pushed the seculer capitalistic ideas and from otherside they will ask why do you care about beard and hijab when there is Riba.
Maybe Beard and hijab is the only thing left to save whiel the rest is doomed.

                  @karachi

didnt you claim canada was heaven on earth ,well the free healthcare you get doesnt come free,it comes from Sood as well.Than i ask myself, why did you leave Arabistan?
I said Canada is a lot better then many other countries, but I actually agree with you that those so called good things are tied to interest (Riba) I should have researched more before saying that. Anyways I left arabia for many reasons, but again even arabia is (riba) infested, Riba is every where, even in Makkah/Medina. The al sauds are western puppets, they have put every thing western in their country, so the whole banking/economic system is based on western principles, not Islamic
