If you go to a doctor, therapist and you have a certain disease,he tells you to eat this and that,in a known portion and in a known way,"then" it will help you,if not the whole therapy or medicine will fail its aim.

And this is the parable in your case.
High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation.

          Prayer :
The one who fails to pray is on the way to disbelieve. ( authentic hadith)

          Quran :
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said : Read the Quran, for it runs ( is forgotton) faster than camels released from their ropes.

          Seeking forgivness from Allah :
The one who does not ask for forgivness from Allah will be not forgiven.(meaning of an authentic hadith, where Aisha (the mother of the believers (may Allah have mercy upon her) asked the Messenger of Allah.

          Good behaviour towards relatives/parents :

Allah says in the Quran : Wa bil wali dayni ihsana (meaning : 'And be kind to your parents'

          And

Treat kindly your related neighbours, and unrelated neighbours
Companions by your side in public gatherings, or public transportation. Al-Qur’an-4/36]

Helping the poor is mentioned uncountable times in the Quran : For example

Be generous to the needy wayfarer, the homeless son of the street, and the one who reaches you in a destitute condition [Al-Qur’an-4/36]
High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation.
