The Prophet MUHAMMAD said: “Whatever part of the lower garment comes beneath the ankles is in the Fire.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5787.
Narrated Abu Huraira, RaziAllahu anhu
The Prophet MUHAMMAD said, “The part of an Izar which hangs below the ankles is in the Fire.”
Hadith – Sahih Al-Bukhari 7.678,
Narrated Abu Dharr RaziAllahu anhu: The Messenger of Allah MUHAMMAD observed: "Three are the (persons) with whom Allah would neither speak on the Day of Resurrection, nor would look at them nor would absolve them, and there is a painful chastisement for them."
The Messenger of Allah MUHAMMAD repeated it three times. Abu Dharr RaziAllahu anhu remarked:"They failed and they lost; who are these persons, Messenger of Allah?" Upon this he observed: "They are: the one who makes (his garment) hang down on the ground (al-musbil), the recounter of obligation, and the seller of goods by false oath."
It's sunnah.
At the time of the prophet MUHAMMAD , it was a tradition to show one's wealth by wearing long robes and other clothing. It is modesty (of one's wealth) and humbling to wear them shorter.
NOTE:-ITS FOR MENS ONLY !!!!!!! WOMENS Should COVER FROM HEAD TO TOE
