Narrated Abu Huraira: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Everyone from my nation will enter Paradise except those who refuse.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah! Who will refuse?” He said, “Whoever obeys me enters Paradise and whoever disobeys me has refused.”
[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 92, Number 384]

The question here is did the prophet obey the Quran or not. There are some who believe the prophet overrided the Quran and changed many of its laws and teachings. I do not believe that. The prophet is the last person to disobey the Quran.

But when Our Clear Signs are rehearsed unto them those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us say: "Bring us a Reading other than this or change this."Say : "It is not for me of my own accord to change it: I follow naught but what is revealed unto me: if I were to disobey my Lord I should myself fear the Penalty of a Great Day." 10.15

5.48-49. To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it, and guarding it in safety: so judge between them by what Allah hath revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging from the Truth that hath come to thee. To each among you have we prescribed a law and an open way. If Allah had so willed, He would have made you a single people, but (His plan is) to test you in what He hath given you: so strive as in a race in all virtues. The goal of you all is to Allah. it is He that will show you the truth of the matters in which ye dispute; And this (He commands): Judge thou between them by what Allah hath revealed, and follow not their vain desires, but beware of them lest they beguile thee from any of that (teaching) which Allah hath sent down to thee. And if they turn away, be assured that for some of their crime it is Allah.s purpose to punish them. And truly most men are rebellious.

        That says it all.

you were ghayb (missing) for a long time, instead of answering my questions nd replying to my refutation, you try other way around....no problem.

Have you read the Quran where it is stated : in Suratul Hashar 7

And what Allah restored to His Messenger from the people of the towns - it is for Allah and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and orphans and the [stranded] traveler - so that it will not be a perpetual distribution among the rich from among you. And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.´

what is meant by this, what he has given you ?

The verse here clearly states what the issue the Quran is talking about. That is the distribution of spoils should go to the above mentioned categories. The Quran elsewhere says:

[17:26-29] You shall give the due alms to the relatives, the needy, the poor, and the travelling alien, but do not be excessive, extravagant.

[2:215] "They ask you about giving: say, "The charity you give shall go to the parents, the relatives, the orphans, the poor, and the traveling alien." Any good you do, God is fully aware thereof."

[9:60] Charities(Sadaqaat) shall go to the poor, the needy, the workers who collect them, the new converts, to free the slaves, to those burdened by sudden expenses, in the cause of Allah, and to the traveling alien. Such is GOD's commandment. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

[2:177] Righteousness is not turning your faces towards the east or the west. Righteous are those who believe in GOD, the Last Day, the angels, the scripture, and the prophets; and they give the money, cheerfully, to the relatives, the orphans, the needy, the traveling alien, the beggars, and to free the slaves; and they observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat); and they keep their word whenever they make a promise; and they steadfastly persevere in the face of persecution, hardship, and war. These are the truthful; these are the righteous

[2:273] Charity shall go to the poor who are suffering in the cause of GOD, and cannot emigrate. The unaware may think that they are rich, due to their dignity. But you can recognize them by certain signs; they never beg from the people persistently. Whatever charity you give, GOD is fully aware thereof

[30:38] Therefore, you shall give the relatives their rightful share (of charity), as well as the poor, and the traveling alien. This is better for those who sincerely seek GOD's pleasure; they are the winners.

So here the prophet was doing exactly what the Quran ordered but apparently some of the believers may not have been happy with that or thought that they should get more. This can happen in times of war especially when some people feel they fought in battle and should get priority in booty. But the Quran says priority should be given not based on performance in battle but based on need. The verse you quoted shows us the prophet followed the commandments of the Quran to the teeth.

Finally you make it sound like I am saying we should not follow the prophet. How can someone who follows the Quran not follow the prophet, unless you think the prophet did not follow the Quran.

Let me bring into the light another translation to make it clear to you the arabic words of this verse which you did not understand.

              Yusuf Ali

What Allah has bestowed on His Messenger (and taken away) from the people of the townships,- belongs to Allah,- to His Messenger and to kindred and orphans, the needy and the wayfarer; In order that it may not (merely) make a circuit between the wealthy among you. So take what the Messenger assigns to you, and deny yourselves that which he withholds from you. And fear Allah; for Allah is strict in Punishment.
