  • women in pashtun society

what do you believe a woman's role should be in our society?

I strictly believe that pashtun women should stay in the kitchen and out of sight unless called upon. Education for a women is also not a major factor for me

Manzareh, have you ever thought about Pashtun women who lost their male reatives and have no one to take care about them? Very often they are women with kids, they live in Kabul or other cities... So tell me who would provide them with food or other goods if, in your opinion, they are not allowed to go out without mahram? Or what if a husband had to leave for work (doesn't matter if he left for few hours or days) and woman or kid needs a help?
Times have changed recently and many single Pashtun families migrated to cities to look there for better life, especially refugess.
I think even Pashtunwali says that a Pashtun woman can work/support her husband and family if her husband can't work due to health reason.

Are you really so cruel or thoughtless?

But the thing is that Afghan women themself are actually doing nothing... they should organise and make a change.... if taliban come to power, the women should stand united and make an agreement so that the situation would not be like in the 90s

And what could they do? Well, I know some who are educated, work etc.. but they are in monority. Education, even basic one, and social support could help.

Spoken like a true Mahsud. I guess thats common in Mahsud areas and in Waziristan is it not?

What about little girls. Women smaller than 10 years in age? Should they stay at home too?

I believe women should not just be confined to their houses. They should have a larger role in the country. If we confine women to the houses it means 50% of the population will not be in any position to provide for the country or earn... which basically makes women useless other than for breeding.

There should be more of a role for women in our society if we are ever to succeed.

Will Mostafa1919 or abassinafghan insult you and tell you to mind your own business in your own country and to deal with the problems women face in your own country, like they did to me so many times in the past ?

I think it's great that you are here Yasmeenaah. You helped me greatly to understand things I wouldn't have figured out by myself.

women can not be caged, at least allow them to have their own (women only) things to do.

One thing I do like about saudi arabia is that they actually have a lot of things for (women only) even women only shopping malls, women only universities etc.... so at least that way they are not caged in their homes.
