Much like religion, secularists or those who espouse for a secular political/governmental order come in all shades and dimensions, and thus cannot all be painted under the same brush. Yet if we look at people who vehemently endorse secularism there seems to be a common pattern arise and that is, a strong correlation between secularism and mental illness. Many of these types of secularists exhibit symptoms of multitudes of psychological disorders and distresses. There is a common tendency for such secularists to display the characteristics of Histrionic Personality Disorder or suffer from abject states of depression due to this imagined fatalism that they fear due to religion having the predominant sway in the pervasive social and political order. I'm not writing this to bash secularists but understanding the psychological dimensions of what motivates specifically these kinds of secularists. Yet the overwhelming body of people who adhere to a spiritual or religious belief and stress the importance of religion in the social and political sphere live with hope, optimism and comparatively better psychological health. Discuss.

without being presumptuous, it appears you''re resembling some of these traits of mental illness, i.e. delusion , are you by chance a vociferous patron of secularism?
He is no different than us,he blindly believes in the words of other men,:
Sure we can find cases ad-nauseum, we're talking about general macroscopic patterns. Most very zealous secularists are very depressed.Originally posted by roadrunner View PostThe case of Andrea Yates suggests religious people are more likely to be mentally Ill than secularists, doesn't it?
He is no different than us,he blindly believes in the words of other men,:
We live only once in this dunya. A lot of people seem to have forget this in this time of luxery, science etc.
I dare one single human to point out where Almighty Allah's laws are not successful/not true. And do not give me examples of incidents where people have not followed sari'ah but constructed their own false teachings.
I don't think you have the slightest clue what this thread is about.
He is no different than us,he blindly believes in the words of other men,:
some religious people in this forum makes religion seem so unappealing to me lately. i don't know if it's me disliking them or the way they speak of it.

Mental Health.net is more relevantly authorative than an "about.com" blurb which has unsubstantiated claims.
Religiosity seems to have a protective effect against suicide. Exactly which religion(s), during what ages/developmental periods, and among which ethnicities remain unanswered questions. Many of the studies of the relationship between religion and suicide have been too small, contradictory, or flawed to make overall conclusions. However, research suggests that in the United States, areas with higher percentages of individuals without religious affiliation have correspondingly higher suicide rates.
He is no different than us,he blindly believes in the words of other men,:
They're not truly religious; they merely adopt the garb of religiosity to represent their egos.
He is no different than us,he blindly believes in the words of other men,:
