Well, a mortgage is a loan which is paid back with interest. Any type of interest is considered "Haraam".

This is backwards-thinking, in definition of thee modern mazlem.


Their is a hadith where the prophet witnesses the sentence of the usurpers, it involved swimming in a pool of blood. That can be used to scare you, or it is really like that.

There is no confusion in this matter. All the scholars have the same view as mortgage paid with INTEREST is Haram.

There are many mentions of it in the Quran such as The first one is in Surah Al-baqarah verse no.275

"Those who devour usury will not stand except as stands one whom the Satan by his touch has driven to madness. That is because they say, "trade is like usury", but Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden usury",

Usury means The practice of lending money and charging the borrower interest, especially at an exorbitant or illegally high rate.

Here is a hadith:

Hazrat Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu reported that the Holy Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallm said: A time will certainly come over the people when none will remain who will not devour usury. If he does not devour it, its vapour will overtake him.

Unfortunately it is haram.... Which is so sad because it stops people from buying their own home and security... But then when you are renting you are pretty much paying someone else's mortgage... It's like a losing situation I for one would love to own my own home to raise my kids knowing this is going to be the place they grow up and not worry about rental agreements etc but unless I have upwards of 500k in the bank that cannot happen without a mortgage.... They were thinking of making interest free loans but they called interest a "fee" instead so it kind of defeats the purpose I think.....

Mortagge has nothing to do with Islam as Islam is for your beliefs, worship and morality not for economic transactions. Otherwise the whole Muslim population in non Muslim and Muslim world is doing haram as the economic system every where except few so called Islamic banks is modern and not Islamic. All your salaries and profits are then haram.

Mortgage is the charging of real (or personal) property by a debtor to a creditor as security for a debt (esp. one incurred by the purchase of the property), on the condition that it shall be returned on payment of the debt within a certain period. Islam caters for moral aspects of life and that's why usury(not interest) is haram but mortgage has nothing to do with usury and in this transaction both the creditor and debtor benefit so there is no question of halal or haram in this.

If you have to go for it then do it keeping in view your requirement and the financial gain you expect from it. Religion has nothing to do with it. Religion is your prayers, beliefs and ethics not economics.
