From what I remember, they banned all forms of paper, including paper bags. They demanded that windows be blackened. As I've said, ISI was behind all these weird edicts, because ISI wanted to make sure that nobody could communicate facts to the outside world which would disclose its operations. They wanted to impose a communication blackout, and of course they declared these things in the name of Islam, as they always do. When does Pakistan not use Islam as a cover? It's important to understand that Pakistan will use Islam as a pretext for anything.

Even the myth behind Mullah Omar is that he had some divine vision from God/angels/whatever. Remember that? He got some special cloak, etc.

In truth, Taliban existed long before Mullah Omar was declared leader. He was trotted out as a leader in response to pointed questions from the media and others about how such a large organization such as Taliban could just magically cooperate without any central leadership? I used to ask that question online to Taliban supporters all the time, back in those days, and they used to duck answering. The real answer is that Taliban had no obvious leader because ISI was their leader.

Btw, does anyone remember a fellow named Abed who sometimes used to call himself "Abed Afghan"? He was Pashtun, and a pretty vocal Karzai supporter - where is he, nowadays?

Sanman, I'm as anti Taliban as they come ....but you're treading conspiracy theory territory ...and conspiracy theories are the butt of stupidity ......using the tactics of Taliban propagandists just makes a person as foul as them.

It's not conspiracy theory - these were the announcements directly made by Taliban, and which were widely reported at the time. Just because I have not kept archival evidence of such things do not mean they didn't happen. You are the one going out of your way to try to exonerate Taliban from their own deeds. Next you'll tell me that they never massacred any Hazaras either.

The edicts may not be a conspiracy theory; your reasoning behind the motivations of the edicts, are conspiracy theories.

which I'm sorry to say, has been falsified by others who lived in that era. The Taliban doing bad things doesn't mean every bad thing must now be attributed to the Taliban. That's just absurd.

So when you tell me that my assertion of ISI's complicity in Taliban's edicts is a "conspiracy theory" - are you saying you don't believe that ISI backs Taliban?

Sorry, but the reality is that in warfare, you use tactics that favor your strategy. Imposing a communication blackout is certainly a time-tested strategy, and its use by Pakistan here is no conspiracy theory. That they tried to camouflage it behind "Islam" is nothing new either.

Not just this, even the secular clean shaven classes of Pakistan use to say if America attacks the Taliban, Allah will send angels on horses to protect the Taliban, Pakistan has always misused Islam for its own propaganda uses.

Pakistan is a parasite to regional peace and development.

Not only this, when Salman Tasreer was killed, there was a facebook page dedicated to the killer, and the media reported that members of the facebook page, were fans of justin bieber and were secular natured people just as religionous.

Pakistan is a result of a horrible experiment with peoples minds. It will never progress but only cause Afghanistan(Taliban) Iran(Balochi Sunni extremists) and India(Lashkar e tayba/Kashimir Jihadis).

Pakistan seriously needs to wiped off the world atlas before its too late. They will drag the whole Muslim world back to Arabia 1200 ad.

sorry to say, I dont intend to offend, but if anyone who has visited or lived in Pakistan you can see why so many Pakistanis flee in the 1000s abroad for a better life.

Qadri, the killer of Salman Taseer has had his sentence suspended by the court. So in other words, there will be no punishment for him.
