  • Koran By Heart (HBO documentary)

I just came upon this on Youtube, it is a HBO documentary, also available on Comcast On Demand (for people in the US).The children are Mash'Allah very talented in memorizing the Quran.

    ‪Koran by Heart (1/6)‬‏ - YouTube

They are in parts, so i thought just post the first part.

However, what kinda bothered me about it, majority of the children had no idea of the meaning of the recitations. It just seemed that this was some sort of 'competition.' Plus, i dont think the first place winner should have won (possibly because he was Egyptian). I definitely think the little kid from Tajikistan should have won or that little girl from Maldives.

                    I saw this just yesterday.
I dislike how they treated Djamil. He is one of the youngest and also came without any family support. As a matter of fact, I think the judges were a little too harsh on some of them. They don't speak arabic so stop yelling at them in arabic, sheesh. And I totally agree with you Laila, the boy from Tajikistan should have one or the girl from Maldives, not the egyptian. Actually I kinda feel bad for the girl from Maldives, her father was not supportive at all. The australian had the best intention, not to win but to see how far you could push yourself in order to do better.

                    Thanks for sharing Laila
I desire that which is Just - House of Dukemina.

I totally agree as well =)

When the Tajiki boy was told to recite again in front of the crowd of judges, i felt so bad. They did not take his age into consideration, he looked very much under pressure and really nervous. He had an amazing voice, a true soothing one, that made a few of the judges teary, and me as well.

The girl from Maldives was so cute, going outside of her island was such a big deal, oh my! remember when she was scared to get on the plane....ha ha she was too cute.

I really dont think it should have been about winning or losing. This is Quranic recitations, everyone should be encouraged to do the best to their ability in a positive way.

But for Ramazan, it was an enjoyable documentary.

the arab judges were racist and nationalists.
have you seen how he said to the guy why he has saudi arabian azan in his hotel room and not egyptian.
and constantly bragging about how they were good event hough they didnt speak arabic as if you are not arab you arent good in reciting Quran.

i think thagt african kid was very cool and how they taunted him yet he kept reciting while crying.

i dont think the father of that maldivian girl wasnt supportive,he just didnt want to show his emotions on camera.

one part was funny whent hey hosni mubarak was talking about ramadan etc and now he faces justice.

amazing group of people. especially that young tajik kid. like laila mentioned, i wish the reciters knew the meaning of the words they recite. the beauty is the meaning, not the sound.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.
