Why was the Qibla direction changed from Jerusalem to Mecca

I had a discussion with some friends last night and we debated on why the direction of the Qibla was changed. Anyone here have a take on the subject.

I think Mohammad (SAW) thought that converting Jews in Jerusalem was a hard task so HE gave more attention to the Arabs and to please them, He changed the direction Mecca.

i think i was more for political and nationalistic reasons. the ones who believe in Miraj, had occured in jerusalem.
