    this is problem: prefering dog
Is your idea of a rational argument? That people shouldn't keep dogs as they are loyal and will prefer to be around them to other humans.

Dogs loyal and very trusting of people maybe far to much so in fact. However they make good family pets and are very good company for elderly people living on their own or people living with disabilities.

i think for disabled and guarding having a dog have no problem

i think its like hijab for protecting society
if u keep ur dog and do not marry or prefer ur dog to ur wife
        maybe the society band hurt

So in other words if arabs liked dogs then in Islam it would be acceptable to keep one.. sounds pretty fair to me :-|

firstly a dog is najas. it is shown (above) permitted only for protectingcattle, crop and hunting (rabbits, birds). i think that is very clear, no doubt or ambiguity
as for faristeh not entering home; i have heard of that too.

any other reason (pet, loyalty, company!?!) is simply like having accessory, a westernised solution.

for me, if owned land, like few jareebs or hectares, and there is crop, mewa, then maybe a guard dog is required, but can do without it.

here is another disgusting reason why no to dog; it sniffs around urine, excrement, licks it self and others dogs - that animal is not coming anywhere near me.

when i visited europe i was shocked to see the affection with dog, how people kept dogs in home, sitting on carpets, sofas, licking faces. even some muslims living in europe kept figting type dogs (pitt bull terrors, dobermanns, rottweilers etc) what looked to me like gangster/drug dealer lifestyle. i dont know what happening to people?

The hijab does not protect either women or society and is merely a Islamic cultural tradition. I'm sure that a lot of men prefer their pet dogs company to their wifes.

Dogs are friendly animals and have lived with people for a very long time. What if a dog is a working animal i.e. a sheep dog or you use the dog to retrieve birds?

This is a silly Arab custom and a dog is not like a pig. I think that the reason why dogs where viewed in a negative light in the past is that wild dogs carried rabies.

Yeah 6th century Arabs to boot. I am going to have to get myself a dog and train it to bite silly Arabs. lol

Judaism like Islam also legalistic. However in a moral sence Islam is similar to Catholicism, as it was greatly influenced by it. You see in medieval times Catholicism was far more Conservative than Islam and in those days it was the Muslaums, who were portrayed as being decadent.

Surely one would get a cat, a rabbit, a gold fish etc for the reasons you stated? So if these are permissable then I do not understand this justification.

no information for cat, rabbit or goldfish being najas. dog is declared najas (unless herding, protecting crop, used for hunting) and one still keeps it? what reasons?

Yes I understand about najas but I am talking about the justification that dogs should not be kept because they will be like accessories, for company or as a pet. These are the same reasons someone gets any animal like a cat or a rabbit or a fish...

So you can't use that justification.
