MWMN is right. Islam were brought to pashtun lands by tribal elders who were sent to Mecca by their own tribes. When they came back from Mecca they were already muslims and after holding several jirgas many pashtun tribes converted to Islam BUT NOT ALL tribes!

Maybe some of them were Bani Israel but they have assimilated INTO PASHTUN TRIBAL SOCIETY with their new religion and thats why were have tribes like ghlzay or durrani that consist of millions of people.

I dont know exactly about Kabul or Herat but I know that people of Kabulistan were fighting Baghdad caliphs who came to spread Islam upon them.

Th truth is, Islam was spread by the sword. And praise to allah for making this possible. Because prior to Islam Pashtuns and Persians were very cruel and savage people. If you study the customs and traditions of pre-Islamic societies in the region, you will be horrified to find out how cruel people can be.

Obviously once Islam was spread across the region, we did have many unjust rulers, dictators, tyrants and civil wars. But it is unfair to attribute those things to Islam. Because prior to Islam our internal conflicts and wars were much more severe.

Besides, just look at Pashtuns at the moment. While we are occupied by foreign forces and our homes are being bombed and women being raped, some Pashtuns continue to fight each other over pieces of land. Every year in Khost, Paktia and other tribal areas dozens are killed. And those conflicts are usually inter-tribal.

We are by nature very war-like and hostile to one another. We like to fight even our own brothers over land, and other types of property.

Those who have disbelieved, like Nadir Shah and his like, like to blame everything on Islam. But the same argument could apply to their religion. Namely Marxism. When Pashtun became Marxist, they started killing each other. Amin killed Tarakai, and later killed many more communists and non-communists. And after Parchamis took over, they locked up their fellow communist of the khalq factions.

We are who we are thanks to Islam. Islam is a major part of our identity. And those who oppose Islam, should never return back to Afghanistan. Because 99% of our people are Muslims.
