Imam al-Ghazali (Allah be well pleased with him) was one of the greatest scholars and saints of Islam. His status is so great in the umma that he is known everywhere as Hujjat al-Islam, the Proof of Islam. He was, by the agreement of the scholars, the mujaddid of the fifth century hijri.

The proof of Imam al-Ghazali's (ra) greatness is in the fact that his books are taught and studied and held in high esteem everywhere in the Muslim world. His Ihya' `ulum al-din (Revival of the Religious Sciences) and Kimiya-e Sa`adat (Alchemy of Happiness) are famous and revered books in Afghanistan (as they are everywhere else).

Wahhabis/"Salafis" attack Imam al-Ghazali (ra) and spread lies about him because he was a champion of Sunni orthodoxy and they, the Wahhabis, are the enemies of Sunni (Ahl al-Sunna) Islam.
