wow how amazing, and what a lucky millionaire to be able to own it. though surely it should be in a museum for all to see!

btw, what does marginal notes mean? is it referring to ayah numbers or something else?

i was hoping that's what they meant! shouldn't people get to see those? new "translations" or interpretations for that matter are turning out to be all sorts. be interesting to see the changes/differences in interpretations over the years.

This shouldn't even have been for sale, how dare they, this Koran should be put in an Islamic museum, if the worlds oldest bible was found in Palestine or something it would directly be Christian property, they'd fly over take it for free and go. And how the he'll didn't some Arab billionare that buys a new Ferrari for everyday of the week not buy it? A million pounds is just pocket money for them. This Quran belongs to the muslim people of should be put on display near the Kaaba or something.

                Manzareh is right.
The only silver lining in the cloud is the fact that these very precious items
                CAN change hands quickly.
                They do get re-sold.
Usually there are announcements by Sotheby's, Christie's etc well in advance.

Next time, maybe a museum such as the Islamic one in Istanbul for example,
could be poised ready to pounce and snap it up.

They need funding, though, which takes time to arrange, one suspects.
At least maybe Islamic museums in secure countries will be on their toes now when this Holy Quran
comes for sale again, which it surely will, Inshallah.

If it went to somewhere which was in a war or about to go up in flames,
                that would be counterproductive.

personally i wouldn't be fussed about who has it for keeps as long as what's written on it is made public.

it should have been in a museum but may be the money is going for a good cause.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

Brothers and Sisters, don't become like Hindus and start idolizing artifacts; it's the content not the material it's pressed on. Remember at once time the Qur'an was written on parchments.

and sadly that is largely our own fault for not being united for focusing on nationalism and seeking after shallow benefits rather than developing our own self sufficient means.

that particular quran must have an amazing history. one wonders how it came into the hands of an individual and not one of your important mosques. probably stolen by invaders.
