Also the the predetermined meat injunction was regarding meat dedicated on the alter of the false arabian gods and meat on which Gods name had not been uttered.Originally posted by Roshina View PostNo, that's not the crux of my dilemma. It is that the Quran states clearly that men can marry Jewish/Christian women, but it never says women can. And because it says women can, we have decided it means women can't.
Nonetheless, you said something that leads me to say ... what reason do I have to believe that all of verse 5:5 is talking to women as well as men and not just to men? I mean, what reason do I have to believe that women and men can do what is allowed in that verse and that it's not just men who can do them? If we can interpret that verse to mean that since it never says women CAN marry Jews/Christians, they can't, why can't we say that only men can eat the meat of the People of the Book and so on?
Na, this isn't about what I can do or can't do as an individual. I'm not interested in that. Yes, if I wanted to marry a Christian/Jew, I would do it, but this isn't about me. It's about how we have dealt with the Quran for the last 1400 years -- and how biased our interpretations have historically been. And, of course, how a certain thing is denied to women just because the Quran doesn't say it IS allowed!"2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote

OK, seriously now, this time, I shall sleep. Take care. Seriously though, my only desire is to get both you and I to ask ourselves: when we make ethical decisions based on our scripture do we mold the scripture to fit our desires as our predecessors did when they received their texts. Christ warned agains this when he proclaimed that he had not come to alter the law, but to fulfill it. Subsequently Pauline Christianity sough to reconcile the Evangel with the Roman era and mores. This in turn produced a mutable religion, yet one that allowed for the dangerous introduction of 1 John 5:7. Ours on the other hand is a religion that demanded evidence from even the likes of Omar bin Al Khattab for any single injunction he made. I would say that the greater issue that faces the subjugation of women is the interpretation of individual words like "disobedience." I have seen a travesty being made of the scripture by men who have destroyed the lives of caring, honest, wonderful muslimah based on doing what the text warned against by implementing their vain desires to interpret what obedience meant. Yet they ignored the Quranic injunction that the Prophet set a beautiful pattern of exemplery living for us. He had a wife that was accused of adultery and did not set upon her like a wild man. So when men decide that they can take the law into their hands, they will very likely be questioned about their own twisting of the text and misusing Gods law. After all, disobedience to the husband, as the Prophet viewed it, was defined by the example and treatment towards his wives of the Prophet himself. It appears that not a single definable action of Aishah or Hafsa constituted anything of the sort as the injunctions of 4:34 were not executed by him... so what I think the Muslim women ought to do is to seize the scriputal initiative and demand that men provide evidence for the masculine interpretations of disobedience etc.Last edited by BarakzaiAbdali; 01-30-2011, 01:41 AM."2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote

i really dont see anything wrong with people like ana-whatever, go ahead and start an amazonian dyke society somewhere and then die out in one generation because of the anti man policy. There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

This is exactly what I think in situations when we talk of feminism and women rights. There are many difefrences within the feminist schools and then the famous sex wars. I believe more in profeminism than pure extreme feminism. No extreme is good. Feminism does not mean abhoring men but an interdependence by mutual love, respect trust, and freedom. What matter is person not sex and gender is all social or cultural never biological.Originally posted by Roshina View PostYou missed the point: I'm independent -- not independent of man. I wish not to be independent of man. Men need women as much as women need men. This is interdependence and is absolutely necessary for society. Not (just) for reproduction purposes but for a million of other reasons.
No. What makes you think I'd stab the rest of the men but not my own? My beloved is precious to me just as another man out there must be precious to another woman. Why would a feminist, who by definition wants the best for women, want men to die out or whatever? Wouldn't that to hurt other women because some women actually have husbands and lovers and fathers and sons whom they love dearly.
And, na, why would I do something as ridiculous and inhumane as stab all men except my own janan, guley?

Roshina, I went through your blog (somewhat) and I found that you are all about yourself. Your feminism stems from the fact that you do not want to follow Islam interpreted by a man, and you have a problem with Pashtun societies, which are male dominated. In essence, you don’t stand on anything. You are one selfish girl.
What you don’t realize is that you cannot bend something a man has invented. It is made to cater to them—by men for men.
You lack the conviction and the devotion to follow what the Quran says, because you don’t want to follow its injunction, since they are not beneficial to you, but instead, you use the term feminism and how it is men who have interpreted Islam until now that you have a problem with. This is so contradictory and incoherent.
From the looks of it, you look at a man like a rag; you will use him when it suits you and discard him when it suits you. I say, we don’t need them. Full stop.
You are very dishonest. You are an insult to true feminists.
For you it is not about standing up for all women. It is about doing things your way. You attack the Pashtun society because it is male dominated and you do not want to be subjugated by them. I agree, that is why I say get rid of them altogether. You do not want to wear the hijab and therefore blame the whole problem on the fact that there is a lack of proper interpretation because up to now it has only been men who have interpreted Islam. Get real.
I agree with the male interpretation, because it is all there. That is why I say that it is biased; and, it is biased because it was invented by them. You don’t agree, instead you say that men have done things their way. Don’t you realize the inconsistency in your analysis? A man came up with the Quran, and a man shall interpret it. Why are you so fascinated with the Quran when it was a man who came up with it? You want to play their game, but on your conditions. Why? Allow men to enjoy ruling themselves!
I say accept everything that is in the Quran, without picking and choosing, or get rid of it altogether.
I believe there is a god, but I believe that whatever a man can do so can a woman. In the Quran it is not mentioned that a woman cannot marry 4 men, therefore I will do it (marry 4 men). In the Quran it is mentioned to cover oneself, I won’t do it because men don’t do it. See how consistent my stance is. You on the other hand want things catered to yourself. You can’t do that.
If we don’t want a man’s interpretation on one thing, then we should not want it for all things. I would say it is unfair to switch teams. Stick to one team, what may come. We don’t need a man. A woman is self-sufficient today. We have to create a religion where our devotion is god and a woman is it founder right from the beginning. And, if a man tries to interpret our religion his way, then he should be sued on copyright infringement.Last edited by Guest; 01-30-2011, 11:45 AM.

lol we are Pashtuns not some westerners white people ok, We don't bully womens or anything, we just are protecting them.Originally posted by Abeille View PostMen should give up trying to run the life of a woman today. We don't need men to run our lives, we never did. However, today, we have found the strength to say it.
Men should stop thinking that a woman needs him today. We don't need men for anything. NOTHING.
A woman, today, is self-sufficient. Period. This includes everything from providing for herself to getting pregnant to interpreting the Quran. God is love and He wants women to show men that they don't need them anymore.
We don't need a man to tell us to cover ourselves. We can do as we please. If God wanted us to be covered then He would not have created us without clothes. We don't need a man to tell us who to marry and who to not marry. I will be a Muslim and marry an Atheist, if I want. If my husband has a problem with my beliefs, then I will easily substitute him. Don't forget, a woman just has to lift her skirt and she can attract any man she wants. Unlike men who have to beg to be wanted.
A true man is he who would allow his woman the liberty to do as she pleases and support her, without condition, even if it meant that she wanted to be alone with another man, whenever she wanted. He should have trust in her and never question her or suspect her. If a man can't do that, then he is not a man, but rather a coward. A true man is he who would recognize that a true woman does not need him, and in turn would back off and let her live her life as she pleases, even if they were married. If he decides to divorce her, then he is very weak and cowardly, he is a male chauvinist, a sexist and a misogynist.
If a man wants to run the life of someone then they should get together and run each others' lives. See how far they get! Those women who are dependent on men are pathetic. A true and brave woman should not fear a man. She should get up and tell her husband, brother, father, grand-father, uncle--any male who tries to interfere with her life--that she rather die than to ever be subjugated by them.
A woman should not have respect for her father, even if he is nice and supportive. A true woman does not need the support of any man. The only men who deserve respect are those men who have never had the upper hand over women. Up to now, it is impossible to find a father who has never gotten angry at his wife. In due time, we will have men who will follow the orders of a woman. That is when men deserve to see a glimpse of respect, because they would know how to control themselves.
A father should never set a curfew for his daughter, and never get upset if and when she dates. Girls who date other boys and don't tell their fathers are cowards. They don't deserve to be called a woman. How can she be called a woman when she fears a man? Her father should know that she can do as she pleases, and there is nothing he can do. If he disowns her, then even better, she is no longer bound to him emotionally.
Women, today, don't need a man; we even have each other for emotional support, something which a man could never understand.
All women should stand up together so that our sisters in Afghanistan and Pakistan would find the courage to stand up to their husbands and other male members of their family. It is not fair that we enjoy peace in the West because our husbands don't dare to run our lives, but, our sisters, back home, don't have this liberty. We should stand by them so that they can stand up to men. If they die, then it would simply be encouraging to other women, and their martyrdom would not go unforgotten, and they would become the symbol for the liberation of women.
If a woman does not need a man in the West, then she definitely does not need a man in the East.
Power to WOMEN!!!
and its our culture, so stop trying to change our culture with this stupid western culture ok
go for it, we are not stopping you.Originally posted by Abeille View PostI will be a Muslim and marry an Atheist, if I want
so according to you womens in Afghanistan, pakhtunkhwa are pathetic.Originally posted by Abeille View PostThose women who are dependent on men are pathetic.

But, let's face it. Women don't need men at all. Women just want them, which is actually an idea I can wholeheartedly support. When it comes to relationships, I like the word 'want' much more than the word 'need'. I mean, come on. everyone knows you can open a jar by simply running it under warm water. Whatever the problem is, a woman can figure it out. Sometimes we just chose not to and just let you have your little moment of fame. But, at the end of the day, it's not all those little chores you do that keep your girl coming back. It's just you.

If folks were paying attention, you already lost the debate waaay back in the part where I discussed that egg and egg cannot be fused and that cloning technology is not at all near perfection. The subsequent comments were geared at proving complete independence. You very well could be right that a woman could have independently invented the computer. However, you were at a loss for words and stated that there are, and I quote: "sperm donors". So you are interdependent. I will reproduce the post. The rest of your commentary is irrelevent thereafter.Originally posted by Abeille View Post"2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote

Case closed. Debate over.Originally posted by Abeille View PostWe don't need a man to tell us what to do. When I go to the Arctic, I will dress appropriately. I can dress as I wish. If a man looks at me then it is his fault not mine. If he is looking at me that means that his woman is not satisfying him. Not my fault, he can't control himself. Not my fault I have what it takes to attract everyone's attention. Too bad for the lady who loses her man because she does not have the natural beauty. Nudity is an art. It should be promoted. Men have to control themselves and have to learn that we live in a society that no longer goes by their dictates. If in the past they wanted women covered because they could not control themselves, then today they don't have power anymore. Rather, they should live and let live. In nature modesty does not exist, therefore, we should not care for modesty. If modesty is defined by dressing appropriately then we should we should shun such definitions and expose our natural beauties.
There are many men out there who are donors. They have made life easy for those who want to get pregnant without a man.
You lose until you go to your local lab and design a way for you to produce a cellular body that can peneterate the egg and provide an additional X chromosome. That is about, oh I dunno, 100 years off even in its rudimentary form.
However, we men have decided to place an embargo on you per your desire to not be interdependent."2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote

More likely, in a year or two, you'll get over your break up..and you'll learn that your ex-s possessiveness and jealousy, aka insecurity, was innate to his being. You'll join the gym, buy an expensive line of make up and entrap a devotee of your own to adore you in full. Or you could just be the next irshad manji, and find your clone and much to the horror of your parents, marry her, then go on television shows in order to reinterpret Islam...just so the whole world would see things your way. The creation of the sexes is one of the mysterious of this world...I just find it sad that one of the things that is meant to be a blessing for us as social beings is what causes you the most displeasure. Perhaps if you lived in a more segregated society, and were shielded from the strange male experiences that lead you to here then maybe no one would have roused as such your animus.
