The above is simply to bring home the idea that there is more to dreams then we think. Take away Freud or Jung or any other psycho-analyst and you are left a man in the middle of the forest with a dream that needs to be understood.

From that we can understand there are three types of dreams:

      1. Satanic Dreams
      2. Dreams of the Subconscious
      3. Revelation (ilham or wahy)

It would not be fair to put all dreams in one basket, as the above example illustrates.

^ I didn't know about the sewing machine - was it Singer who had the dream!? -
but i seem to recall that the guy who unraveled something about how DNA is stranded together saw it in a dream.

Other scientists have figured out the heaven-sent solutions to complex problems which had bothered them for ages.

        I always believe in dreams.

But it depends WHO is the dreamer. If not a reliable person, then the dream is probably just "astral plane" shadows floating through their consciousness.

I tend to think that religious people are the most likely to receive accurate dreams.

You mean the double helix structure? watson and Crick were on LSD when they came up with that one lol ...

          Good story bro...
There are a number of famous dreamers who came up with awesome revealations, like the structure of benzene ring which was invisioned as a snake eating its own tail. Also "Dr. Jackyle and Mr. Hyde" was all based on the authors dream. Some authors dreamed entire novels...they'd sleep and continue dreaming, wake up and write it down.

Writing your dreams is good practice. I want to experience lucidity...I haven't in a long time

Are you SURE about Watson and Crick?
            Ick!
You're right, though. I mixed up the benzene ring with the double helix.

YES! Some authors like Taylor Caldwell, for a famous example, wrote about the past SO clearly and in such specific detail that you could swear she saw it all in a dream.
[That was a woman, I never figured out why she was called Taylor. Another author friend of hers, Jess Stearn, used to say she had actually herself lived in the eras about which she wrote, and her soul rememberd the actual facts.
Her best novels were about Cicero, Aspasia [though Muslims were ridiculously portrayed there and Greeks exalted as far superior than Persians. I guess she just dreamed sections of the book that time, or she would have presented Muslims fairly].

There was an 19th century or early 20th century novel about two people who dreamed the same dream every night for years.

I have kept a diary of my dreams since I was 5 or 6 years old, so I agree. It's fun to look back and see how they actually came true. Or discern finally what the meaning may have been about AFTER future events explained them.
Those pages are so useful to keep. Maybe time for a re-read for me!

            It's a fun topic!

Lucid dreaming I read about -- that's difficult and takes huge effort, doesn't it?

I havent read all the posts....but i thought i'd share this anyway........according to psychological research, in biological rythmes........dreams happen during REM sleep......also in your sleep if someone were to throw water on you then your dream would have a water theme to it. But psychologists like Freud.....said that dreams were repressed memories.

^ Yes, I actually took a course called "Sleep and Dreams" where the REM cycle was extensively looked at as the source of both the deepest rest and dreams.
Studies with many patients showed that those who did not experience a REM cycle were tired and depressed...it seems to boost creativity, both when awake and asleep, via the dreams!

[Opinionated comment: Freud must have been sent by the devil to throw subsequent generations way off the track! I believe he was an atheist, but don't wish to even look at his picture in a wikipedia writeup on him.]

Ashiq, I missed your post of Howe's invention of the sewing machine.
                Remarkable !

To think that these are SOME examples which have been revealed to the public.
What about the doubtless many more which people may be too reticent to divulge?
Especially scientists may fear ridicule by peers.
[Murids may fear ridicule by Pirs, too?! Just kidding.]

Now what are ilham and wahy?
Could you explain, if you return here?

^yeah.....Freud was a pervert, but hey he excelled in everything he did. Everyone has REM sleep.......the sleep cycle lasts 90 minutes........and if you wake up during REM sleep......you will remember the dream i.e. if your sleep cycle breaks.........the first stage is when your body goes into the state of paralysis. Biological rhythms was really interesting.
