  • I have a question

    Why are people here concerned more about the pashtuns in Pakistan than they are for Afghanistan ? I honestly dont get it. Ive never seen a thread on here about the political crisis in Afghanistan, nothing about the war thats going on, no word on civilian casualties everyday, the abysmal condition of security there no discussions on how to get it out of this bottomless pit of war..and still people here are more concerned about pashtuns in Pakistan ?

    And whats even more baffling is that pashtuns from Pakistan have no problems with the government, i mean none that every other pakistani doesnt have and still more people are worried about Pakistan than Afghanistan ?

    Pashtuns of Afghanistan are political elite.

    Almost ALL Rulers of Afghanistan = Pashtun
    Pashto = National language.
    National anthem = Pashto
    Founder of Afghanistan = Pashtun.

    They enjoy a much better status in the country compared to us struggling for an identity that we just got.

    you need to travel and come here to Pakistan and you will realize the status here.

    Pashtuns are in Afghanistan what Punjabis are in Pakistan.

      People do care about Afghanistan, and in a lot of other forums we discuss both. However the situation in Pashtunkhwa is tied to Afghanistan, so the instability and the policy GHQ adopts in Pashtunkhwa gives a lot of indication as to the greater scheme of things (Afghanistan). And like karachipashtun said, we are a majority and the political elite in Afghanistan. However in pakistan we are not. We are internally divided up like kurds are. We just got a name change in one of the areas (FATA, mianwali and south pashtunkhwa being the others).

        ^ Exactly so shouldnt the "elite" in Afghanistan be worried about where the country is headed ?

        @DZJ huh ?

          You can't continue in afghanistan without bringing the pashtuns in, so Pashtuns will have to be represented one way or the other.

            Bro go through this forum and point me towards the no. of threads on Afghan politics, the instability within that country, the security situation the current updates on war and what not, economy even.

            hell i have made more threads about the current situation in Afghanistan and i dont even know whats going on up there. You guys are all educated and have this forum to come together and find solutions for Afghanistan, yet 90% of the discussions here are about Pakistan. Look at kabul, Kandahar and then look at Peshawar, Karachi and then tell me which one you need to worry about more

              Look we are not saying Afghanistan is doing great...however peshawar recently is not a bed of roses. Afghanistan went through 30 years of war, you have to give it time. Prior to the 70s, many pashtunkhwa people went to Afghanistan for education etc (it was free). Like I said what happens in Pashtunkhwa effects Afghanistan, because of the whole strategic depth policy. However you are right there is an imbalance of threads. There should be more threads on Afghanistan. At the end of the day Afghanistan and pashtunkhwa are one.

                Pashtuns enjoy a far better status and respect in Kandahar compared to Karachi where there are CONSTANTLY victims of exoneration.
                True true Kandahar is the heart of pashto language culture and leadership (ahmad shah baba, mirwais neeka, etc)

                  Peshawar still is a bed of roses if you compare it to kabul, pakistan had its problems in terms of TTP and we have dealt with them to a great extent. Afghanistan didn't go through 30 years of war, Afghanistan is still going war. Ok what affects Afghanistan more ? Pakhtunkhwa or what goes on in Afghanistan itself ??

                  And as for threads i have so many articles about Afghanistan that i read everyday, yet i share here none because you guys are going to think im being my "punjabi" self. Afghanistan is ranked next to Somalia as the most corrupt nation of the world, HDI ranked Afghanistan at 181 out of countries on poverty. Infact i was just reading this
                  One of the most notorious departments in Kabul is the anti-drug section of the Ministry of Interior, the Counternarcotics Police of Afghanistan.
                  Gen. Daud has been responsible for the CNPA since his presidential appointment as deputy minister for Counternarcotics in 2004, and the force has grown to an estimated 3,000 drug officers across the country. But the documents and case studies gathered by The Globe paint a disturbing portrait of his role in the industry.
                  "You have chosen a wolf as your shepherd," said an Afghan police officer who worked with Gen. Daud.
                  The officer spoke on condition of anonymity, as did all other Western and Afghan officials who provided details about drug corruption.
                  Talking about narcotics can be dangerous in Kabul; in December, an outspoken judge who handled drug cases was dragged out of his house by masked men and executed with a gunshot to the head.
                  One of the few people who has discussed Gen. Daud's dealings on the record is Lieutenant Nyamatullah Nyamat, then serving as head of the counternarcotics police in Kunduz province. He gave an interview to the Los Angeles Times accusing Gen. Daud of running a drug business in northern Afghanistan and protecting other dealers; shortly after the article was published in 2005, Lt. Nyamat disappeared. Two sources familiar with the incident said British advisers to the CNPA scrambled to ensure the lieutenant's safety, holding a meeting in which Gen. Daud admitted ordering his arrest. (Gen. Daud now denies this.) The lieutenant was eventually released unharmed, and reassigned to a less active post in central Afghanistan.
                  Do you see my point ?

                    Actually kabul is relatively safer at times than peshawar. Peshawar has massive security lapses. I doubt army is near to destroying ttp...they attacked an IDP camp, and just recently attacked dir, and peshawar.

                    Again we acknowledge that Afghanistan is a mess and we should post more articles about it. That however does not change the situation in Pashtunkhwa.

                      The city has been turned into rubble ? so what status ?

                      And the thing about Pashtuns in Karachi, dude prove it. Pakistan is still a thrid world country, the problems faced by pashtuns there are shared by every other Pakistani.

                        Agreed that "right now" Peshawar's security isnt fool proof as compared to other cities within Pakistan and i was arguing with my friend that the new sceurity scanners should be put in Peshawar instead of Islamabad. But Peshawar is still 100 times safer than Kabul, just for the fact they have a "system" like every city does whereas in Kabul you never know when your going to hear a boom. And that was the point of this thread to find solutions and make people think about which deserves more attention. And just another note, kabul is the capital of Afghanistan this comparison with peshawar alone should suffice to realise the how bad the security situation is in Afghanistan

                          ^ Are you serious ? Pakistan and that includes Pashtuns has a per capita of $1027 (India, one of the biggest economies in south asia has a per capita of $1032) and Afghanistan where you say Pashtuns are the elite have a per capita of $293

                          That means a pashtun in Pakisan earns $1027 whereas an everage pashtun in Afghanistan earns $293 dollars..way to be elite

                          And Pakistan has a population 166,036,895 (2008) whereas Afghanistan has a population of 12,072,915 (1989)
                          Pakistan has 28 million pashtuns whereas Afghanistan has 12 million

                            @sholmbay read the stats above before commenting on status and poverty rate

                            and I have been to karachi, like i said before average Pashtun faces the same problems as any other Pakistani does, we dont treat anyone as an elite because of who they are its what they do that matters. Pakistan is still a developing country so we have our work cut out for us but take a look at the stats i posted and you will know what a pashtun living in Afghanistan has to go through. Sitting in US or foreign countries, you cant realise what life is like for people who have no jobs and or security. You can afford this self proclaimed pride but those people have more pressing concerns
