  • Mullah Omar is in Pakistan and everyone knows it

PARIS: Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Omar is based in Pakistan and everyone knows it, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said Tuesday, calling on Islamabad to do more to help end the conflict.

“It's not a secret for anyone, everyone knows that Mullah Omar is in Quetta, if he's not now in Karachi,” Kouchner told French lawmakers, referring to two major Pakistani cities known to harbour militant cells.
Mullah Omar was the leader of the Taliban regime that was overthrown in Afghanistan by US-led forces in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks and is now thought to be based in Quetta.

“Taliban leaders have been given shelter in Pakistan. I'm not revealing anything,” Kouchner said, telling parliament's foreign relations committee why Afghanistan has called on Pakistan to help negotiate a peace deal. -AFP

The reason might be that US and the West are still too lenient towards Pakistan.

What do you think is their motivation in being so "lenient"? Aghae na baghaer che Pakistan da dyuu jorr karrae mulk dae.

I don't know exactly, might be a future role for it again as mercenary or due to the nuclear weapon it possesses. What is your opinion?

Yaraa that could be possible although that would be another hell hole scenario for Pashtuns (although pathans ba wartha gaddegee nu). I personally think they are setting the stage for sidelining Pakistan completely. I think this is part of their media campaign at home to basically hit the last nail in the coffin of Pakistan. Allah u aalim.

Or there might be another possibility of being killed by Paki security forces.

Dder arzaana dee Pashtaana..dder kharsseegee afsoss khabaraa da.

However, the west knows or has been saying this for years, but they fall short of doing anything. It is rhetoric at this point.

Did they REALLY hand Mullah Baradar over?
                      God forbid!

This is old news Catya...he was caught by a joint US and Pakistan operation...handed over along with a few others. Word is that because he was willing to negotiate with NATO for the taliban without going through Pakistan, he became a strategic liability for Islamabad.

                          Yes, BLS.

Remember I posted that article at which you guys all rolled your eyes ?

It posited -- fairly convincingly, to me -- that M.B. was actually a CIA plant to start with. Hence, he was KEPT by Pakistan purposely far out of Washington's reach for interration or extradition.

That was a few months back, though. I did not read any updates whether some forces have SINCE twisted Islamabad's arm to actually relinquish this prize to the U.S.

That's what I meant: did they ACTUALLY send MB [back!?!] to New York?

OR he's stashed to this day away somewhere no one will find him?

As for Mullah Omar, the Pakistanis themselves "doth protest too much " that he's in Quetta. In my opinion, they circulated that rumor which took root with the West, witness this statement by the French F.M., merely a repetition of the same old stories promulgated all these years.

Perhaps Mullah Omar is nowhere near there, one can deduce.

The Pakistanis wouldn't be that dumb.

Karachi doesn't sound right, either. Too wild and chaotic, something could happen to their charge, if he IS in their control as charged.

Maybe not too. They would never admit it if they didn't know where he was.

They would lose their Ace in the card game. It's nothing but big psychological warfare contest being waged here, clearly. Who can out-fake whom most successfully ?

Speaking of fakirs & qalandars ... if I were Mullah Omar, if I were free to move around, I would rush over to /down south to / up north to/ westward to: none other than the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. No one would ever suspect me to be there out of the entire Pakistan!

This Sufi shrine is simply unimaginable that I would ever set foot there in a million years.
Both on principle, and especially due to its particularly wild rites - allegedly - at the time of Lal Shahbaz' Urs.

Just a creative idea to stop all the agencies from going over Quetta for the thousandth time with a fine-toothed comb!
To let those poor Quetta residents breathe peacefully for a change!

Bardar was caught but never handed over to US although they were given a green signal to investigate him but even that was in Pakistan ..he actually never got handed over and even more remarkable is the fact that how bardar's capture completely went off radar after the initial sensationalization
It's enough that I know, Our time had a home, In your heart..Was a place..But the glass always breaks..

Thank you very much for confirming that the PURPORTED Number 2 - how do we know that he even was exactly that ? That's just how he was billed to the world audience -- was never given back to the U.S.

His handing over was likely a speculation based on assumption by the West that he would be in their clutches soon.

According to the other account I dug up, the Pakistanis were trying to avoid that.
Then: they discovered the new information.

I am fairly certain this is the explanation for why the five-star operation to nab Mullah Baradar was hushed up after being splashed all over the international press.
